Interior designer and television personality Genevieve Gorder listed her Chelsea duplex for roughly $4 million after combining two neighboring co-op units in a renovation featured on the 2014 series Genevieve’s Renovation. Published asking-price reports range from $4.1 million to $4.35 million; none of the reviewed sources confirms a completed sale or final price.
What the Manhattan duplex is
The residence is in the Fitzroy Townhouses on West 22nd Street in Chelsea, overlooking Clement Clarke Moore Park. Mansion Global describes it as nearly 2,500 square feet across the top two floors of a four-story townhouse dating to the 1850s. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, according to Mansion Global and the Christie’s International Real Estate listing.
It began as two separate, side-by-side units. Gorder combined them into one home, a project later documented in Genevieve’s Renovation.
How the renovation balances old and new
The reported features include hand-scraped white oak floors, French windows, built-in shelving, fireplaces, a prominent staircase and a white kitchen with a marble island. The home also has several outdoor spaces: Mansion Global reports two rear rooftop patios and two front patios, with the rear patios facing the park.
#1 Best Overall
Gorder told Mansion Global, “I wanted anything attached to the walls to reference the age of the home.” She also said, “In my heart, I’m a preservationist, but I don’t want to live like a lady in the 1860s.” The remarks capture the renovation’s stated aim: acknowledge the building’s history without recreating an 19th-century interior.
