The sample build measures 61½ × 32⅛ × 39³⁄₁₆ inches with its casters down, but the plan calls for measuring your own saw and adapting the dimensions before you build.
What the plan is designed to do
WOOD Magazine describes the project as “a combination workbench and outfeed table.” When the bench is not in use, its intended storage position is over the tablesaw, helping a small shop or garage make better use of floor space. The plan is linked from WOOD Magazine’s project page; the downloadable plan identifies its copyright as 2007.
Sample dimensions and saw-fit checks
The published sample bench is 61½ inches wide × 32⅛ inches deep × 39³⁄₁₆ inches high with the casters down. These are dimensions for the example build, not a guarantee of fit with another saw. The example is based on a contractor-style saw with a 30-inch fence.
Before laying out the bench, measure the saw’s length, height and maximum width. Include the saw table, wings, extensions and rear fence rail in the width measurement. The plan’s positioning guidance is to allow one inch above the saw and one inch at each side when the bench is parked over it; it specifies no front-to-back clearance. Follow the plan’s instructions for removing the blade guard, rip fence and miter gauge before placing the bench over the saw.

#1 Best Overall
- RACK AND PINION FENCE RAILS - Ensures fence stays parallel to blade for fast smooth, and accurate cuts
- INTEGRATED FOLDING STAND - Legs quickly fold in to provide portability and convenient storage
- PARALLEL BLADE ALIGNMENT - Available micro-adjustment of blade so that it is parallel to rip fence and miter slot
- 4x4 CUTTING CAPACITY - Cuts material up to 4x4 at 90 degrees
- 2-47° BEVEL CAPACITY - Cuts between 2 positive stops at 0 and 45 degrees with quick release lever
How the rolling bench is equipped
The base uses four 4-inch swivel casters with brakes. Confirm that any casters you select have mounting plates and load ratings suitable for your finished bench; the cited plan passage does not give those specifications.
The worksurface is a ¾-inch plywood panel that can be flipped or replaced when it becomes worn. The parts list also includes maple, pine, laminated stock and birch plywood, along with flathead wood screws, levelers with T-nuts, bolts, washers, lock nuts, eyebolts, a steel bar and two ½-inch schedule 40 steel pipes. The plan calls for a stack dado set and ¾-inch round-over and 45-degree chamfer router bits.

- Rack & Pinion Telescoping Fence System Make fence adjustments fast, smooth and accurate
- Patented material support, can be used for narrow rip cuts.
- 32-1/2" rip capacity easily cuts a variety of larger shelving and trim materials
- Onboard storage system provides easy access to the Blade Guard Assembly, fence, riving knife, miter gauge, wrenches, push stick, and cord wrap when not in use.
- Rolling stand designed for easy set up and breakdown with excellent stability of the portable table saw. Telescoping fence rails retract to create a small, portable package. Flip over ripping fence allows for narrow rip cuts
Get the plan and adapt it before cutting
- Open the WOOD Magazine project page and use its linked download to access the plan. The page listed the download when checked October 4, 2026, but access may change.
- Measure the saw, including its table, wings, extensions and rear fence rail. Compare those measurements with the plan’s stated one-inch overhead and side clearances and its zero front-to-back clearance.
- Customize the bench dimensions to your saw and shop layout before cutting stock. Check both its stored position over the saw and the working space needed when using it as a bench or outfeed support.
- Review the plan’s parts and hardware requirements, and verify the dimensions and load capacity of the casters and other purchased components for your build.
What to compare with other outfeed-table layouts
When evaluating a different design, compare how its dimensions fit your saw, how much floor space it occupies in use and storage, whether it serves as a general work surface, how it moves or locks in place, and what clearance it requires around the saw. Those are practical fit-and-layout questions; the project page does not report comparative performance testing of alternative designs.
