NSSGA’s 2026 Awards of Excellence list three Cemex operations for Community Relations Excellence and 12 for Environmental Excellence. Marana Apex Quarry earned Community Relations Gold; Center Hill Mine and Lyons Cement Plant earned Silver. Environmental honors went to four Cemex facilities at Silver and eight at Bronze.
2026 Community Relations Excellence winners
The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) recognizes producer operations for contributing to their communities and improving public perception of their facilities, companies and the aggregates industry. Its 2026 Cemex entries are:
| Award tier | Cemex operation |
|---|---|
| Gold | Marana Apex Quarry |
| Silver | Center Hill Mine |
| Silver | Lyons Cement Plant |
Under NSSGA’s Community Relations Excellence rules, a Gold facility is recognized for five years before it becomes eligible to apply again.
2026 Environmental Excellence winners
NSSGA describes this award as recognition for operations that contribute to environmental maintenance through controls and systems. Evaluation considers, in part, how well an operation meets and exceeds technical environmental and regulatory requirements. The Cemex facilities on the official 2026 list are:
#1 Best Overall
Silver
- Alico Quarry
- Balcones Quarry
- Davenport Sand
- Krome Quarry
Bronze
- Center Hill Quarry
- Deerfield Sand Mine
- Four Corners Sand Mine
- Gator Sand Mine
- Immokalee Sand Mine
- Lake Wales Sand Mine
- St. Catherine Quarry
- Union Sand Mine
For Environmental Excellence, NSSGA’s award rules provide that Gold recognition lasts five years before a facility is eligible to apply again.
How the award categories differ
Community Relations and Environmental Excellence recognize different aspects of an operation. The first centers on community contributions and public perception; the second concerns environmental controls, systems and regulatory performance. NSSGA’s awards program recognizes facilities, not just parent companies, and also includes a separate safety category, as described in its Awards overview.

The Community Relations application offers a closer look at what applicants may document. NSSGA’s 2026 sample application asks for evidence in six areas: special events, charitable community impact, volunteer projects, advocacy with local, state or federal government, quarry education, and media relations. It requests supporting materials such as photos, thank-you notes and news coverage. Those prompts describe the application, not specific work by any named Cemex site.
What NSSGA reported about the awards
In a September 21, 2026 announcement, NSSGA reported 9 Gold, 23 Silver and 67 Bronze Community Relations winners. The association named Martin Marietta’s Blue Ridge Quarry the Platinum winner for the highest overall score; the release did not provide a numeric score.

NSSGA President and CEO Michele Stanley said, “Congratulations to our winners for their outstanding contributions to the communities in which they operate.” She also said the facilities show how the industry supports neighbors “through charity work, community partnerships and more.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the environmental-award count is 12, not 16
A Construction Owners Club recap dated October 4, 2026 says 16 Cemex operations received Environmental Excellence Silver or Bronze recognition, but its itemized names total 12. NSSGA’s official winner list likewise shows four Cemex Silver facilities and eight Bronze facilities. The supported count is therefore 12 listed operations; the recap does not explain the difference.

Facility names matter: Center Hill Mine is the Community Relations Silver recipient, while Center Hill Quarry is the separate Environmental Excellence Bronze entry. The award lists do not supply facility-level scores, identify the specific projects behind each Cemex award, or quantify environmental performance or community impact. The listed tiers therefore support a record of recognition, not a ranking of Cemex sites by measured results.
