An air fryer with shelves is usually an oven-style countertop air fryer: a compact oven with air-fry capability, racks or trays, and often toast and bake functions. The shelf layout can make it easier to spread food out or cook more than one item, but it does not guarantee identical results across every rack. Chamber shape, controls, cleanup and counter space matter more than a large advertised capacity.
The available testing supports useful comparisons among several models, but not a single, current five-model ranking across a defined region and price range. The picks below are therefore evidence-backed options, not a claim that these are the five best overall.
What “air fryer with shelves” means
In this guide, the term means an oven-style countertop appliance with air-fry capability and a chamber that accepts racks, baskets or trays. Many models also toast and bake. This differs from the familiar pod-style air fryer, which generally cooks in a pull-out basket rather than across oven shelves.
More rack positions give you layout choices, but the usable chamber dimensions and shape determine what actually fits. A broad space can let you spread food in one layer, which supports more even browning. Loading several levels at once may change airflow and results; don’t assume every rack cooks equally unless testing for that model establishes it.

How to choose a multi-rack air fryer
Check the space you can actually use
Measure the appliance’s external dimensions and the counter area where it will sit. Then check the manufacturer’s required clearances; a large chamber often means a larger countertop footprint. Also compare interior fit against foods and cookware you use: for example, whether a pizza or a 9-by-13-inch pan fits is more actionable than a headline capacity alone.
Match rack layout to your cooking
Count the available rack positions and consider whether the chamber lets you spread food on one level or arrange different items at once. Rack count is a flexibility measure, not a promise that every loaded level will brown at the same rate. If multi-level cooking is central to your decision, look for model-specific evidence about results at different positions.

Compare performance, not just presets
Look for air-frying results and speed, then consider the other functions you will use, such as toast or baking. A long preset list says little by itself about how well a model performs. The available RTINGS findings, for example, distinguish strong air-frying from slower or less consistent toast on the CHEF iQ MiniOven, and even air-frying and strong baking and toast from slower cooking on the Ninja DT201.
Inspect controls and accessories
Check how the model handles temperature, fan settings and cooking modes, and what racks, baskets or trays are included. Accessory fit is model-specific: verify dimensions and compatibility before buying an extra rack or mesh tray. The cited comparisons do not establish a complete, like-for-like control and accessory list for all three models.

Plan for cleaning
Oven-style appliances can mean more surfaces to clean: racks, trays or baskets, the interior and a crumb tray. Check which parts are removable or dishwasher-safe and whether the chamber is accessible. In the cited evidence, RTINGS specifically notes that the Ninja DT201 lacks a non-stick interior coating but is accessible for cleaning; comparable cleaning details are not established for every option.

A full-size range with an air-fry function is a different category from an air fryer toaster oven with shelves. For example, Whirlpool lists air fry, convect bake, broil, frozen bake and bake on the WFE550S0LZ electric range, with a 5.3 cu. ft. capacity and an included dishwasher-safe air-fry basket. That capacity and form factor should not be compared directly with a countertop oven’s chamber.
