Laura Kampf is a self-taught maker whose projects move between wood, metal, recycled materials and other disciplines. Rather than staying within one trade, she learns by building, improvising and working through mistakes. Her videos show the finished projects, but also make the process—and the confidence to try—part of the story.

Who is Laura Kampf?

Laura Kampf is a maker and video creator known for projects that cross materials and skills. In a Festool interview, she describes the benefit of not being limited to one material: “The advantage of that is that I am not limited to working with just one material, for instance wood, but can also work with metal or recycled materials.”

That range is central to her approach. Instead of presenting herself as a specialist in a single craft, she treats making as a chance to combine disciplines and find a workable route from an idea to an object.

What does Laura Kampf make?

Her work includes furniture and other built objects, often drawing on more than one material or skill. A 2021 Raspberry Pi/HackSpace interview recounts how a design-school assignment to build something from everyday objects led her to make a tattoo machine. Kampf said the experience helped her discover the appeal of combining different skills.

The same interview described her interest at the time in developing selected furniture ideas with a production partner, while making clear she did not want to manage production herself. That 2021 account should not be taken as evidence of a current product line or active partnership.

How did Laura Kampf become a maker?

Kampf describes herself as self-taught. In the Festool interview, she puts it simply: “I taught myself everything.” Her first-person Wera profile likewise presents learning through experience, including when things go wrong.

She does not frame making as flawless instruction. A trained specialist may have more formal expertise in a particular craft; Kampf’s account instead emphasizes learning across disciplines and adapting when a plan fails. Mistakes can prompt improvisation or a different way to complete the work, rather than ending the project.

In the Wera profile, she recalls an early YouTube project, “Laura’s Walnut Lamp.” The profile also described a weekly upload rhythm at the time it was written; that historical schedule is not a reliable guide to her current posting frequency.

Why are the videos about more than the finished build?

Kampf has described a distinction between documenting the work and doing it. In an interview published by Raspberry Pi on 4 August 2021, she said that documenting projects for YouTube was the work part, while “the physical work of building something, that’s a form of meditation.” She described building as her happy place.

The videos also aim to encourage viewers to try making things themselves. In the Wera profile, Kampf says, “I don’t want to sell anything — I want to inspire.” The emphasis is less on presenting a perfect, repeatable formula than on showing that a person can begin, adapt and learn while making.

What tools does Laura Kampf use?

The Festool-published interview identifies Kampf using a PSC 420 cordless jigsaw. This is a documented example from a brand interview, not an independent product assessment or confirmation that she currently uses or endorses the tool.

In discussing tools, the interview attributes to her considerations such as weight, ease of handling, battery life and avoiding a workshop full of different charger systems. For a builder choosing equipment, those are practical criteria to weigh against the work at hand and the tools already owned. The interview does not provide comparative testing or establish that one product is best for every workshop.
