1. 12V brushless 1/4-inch right-angle die grinder: controlled grinding and finishing
SlashGear’s January 25, 2026 article favors this right-angle die grinder over Hercules angle grinders for users who want a more controlled, less intimidating form factor. It reports a brushless motor rated up to 25,000 RPM, a 1/4-inch collet, four speed settings, and a variable-speed paddle with a safety lock. Those features make it a candidate for controlled grinding and finishing rather than a general-purpose substitute for a larger grinder.
SlashGear reported a $59.99 price and Harbor Freight customer feedback of 4.9 stars, with 98% recommending it across 165 reviews. The tool was described as tool-only, so account for a compatible battery and charger if you do not already have them. The same article relayed reviewer complaints about heat, battery capacity, and power; those are customer comments, not established defect rates or a controlled performance assessment.

2. 20V brushless 1/2-inch Ultra Torque impact wrench: demanding fasteners
For automotive and equipment fasteners that call for a high-torque cordless wrench, the HCB85B2 is the most directly relevant pick. SlashGear reported Harbor Freight specifications of 1,500 ft-lb breakaway torque and up to 1,000 ft-lb application torque. These are manufacturer-listed figures, not a promise that the wrench suits every fastener, joint, or service procedure. Use the fastener maker’s requirements and proper tightening method; an impact driver is a different tool and should not be treated as a substitute for an impact wrench.
SlashGear’s article-time prices were $189.99 tool-only and $249.99 for a kit. The tool-only option makes sense only if you already own a compatible Hercules 20V battery and charger. The article also reported a Torque Test Channel result of 94% of advertised torque and fourth place among cordless high-torque impact wrenches in that comparison; this is an attributed result from that comparison, not a universal ranking across all tools or conditions. Harbor Freight product-page feedback reported by SlashGear was 4.9 stars and 99% recommendation. Its noted complaints included weight, difficulty attaching or removing sockets, and power relative to premium brands.

3. HE74 12-inch dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw: repeatable trim cuts
The HE74 is the pick for trim and repeatable crosscuts when the workpiece fits the saw’s capacity and cut accuracy matters. SlashGear described a budget-oriented saw with a 15-amp, 120-volt motor, a 12-inch blade, and speed up to 4,100 rpm. SlashGear reported that a demonstration required a slight scale adjustment before producing square, clean cuts. It also relayed owner complaints about broken drive belts and fried motors. Its Harbor Freight customer snapshot was 4.9 stars and 99% recommendation across 3,572 reviews. Those ratings and reported problems are customer-feedback snapshots, not controlled reliability data. Confirm the exact current model listing and specifications before purchase.

A miter saw and circular saw solve different cutting problems: the HE74 favors accurate, repeatable cuts on stock within its capacity; a circular saw is more portable and can be more practical for rough carpentry. Harbor Freight’s official listing identifies the HE74 product family, but the exact current item page should be checked for model-specific details.
Two Hercules products to approach cautiously
1-3/8-inch bi-metal plunge/flush-cutting oscillating multi-tool blade
SlashGear reported a 3.7-star Harbor Freight rating, a $9.97 clearance price, and no online availability when its article appeared on January 25, 2026. The main concern was customer complaints about durability, especially during metal cutting. The product description says its bi-metal teeth stay sharp longer and identifies wood, metal, plastic, and drywall as suitable materials; the SlashGear article also noted positive reports for softer materials. The evidence supports caution about reported metal-cutting durability, not a claim that every blade fails or cannot work in other materials. Check that the blade’s mount fits your oscillating tool and that the intended material is within its stated use.

20V cordless compact heat gun
SlashGear reported a $39.99 tool-only price, a 4.1-star rating, and 82% customer recommendation at publication. It relayed complaints about heat output and airflow. The cordless format may still be useful for light heat-shrink work away from an outlet, but it is a less convincing choice for extended or high-heat tasks; consider a corded heat gun when sustained heat matters. The reported price and rating are dated snapshots, so verify current availability and feedback.
How to choose among them for a job
- Match the tool to the operation: use the die grinder for controlled grinding and finishing, the impact wrench for appropriate high-torque fastening, and the miter saw for repeatable crosscuts and trim work within its capacity.
- Check power and accuracy needs: a high torque rating alone does not determine whether an impact wrench is suitable for a particular fastener. For cuts, distinguish a miter saw’s repeatability from a circular saw’s portability and rough-cut usefulness.
- Account for the battery platform: confirm whether a listing is tool-only or includes a battery and charger. Harbor Freight’s official 20V brushless impact-driver listing says the driver is tool-only and its battery and charger are sold separately; its listed torque is up to 2,200 in-lb. The official hammer-drill listing describes a 1/2-inch chuck, hammer mode, and up to 1,200 in-lb. Those figures are manufacturer specifications for different tools, not independent comparative test results.
- Check control and accessory fit: consider tool weight, grip, and control, and verify the collet, socket drive, blade mount, blade arbor, and any other accessory interface against the exact model before purchasing accessories.
- Review the current terms: check today’s price, stock, product-page details, and warranty eligibility rather than relying on article-time snapshots.
What the Hercules 20V brushless warranty covers
Harbor Freight’s published terms say qualifying HERCULES 20V brushless tools purchased on or after August 19, 2022 have a five-year limited warranty. The 20V batteries and chargers have separate three-year limited warranties. Proof of purchase is required, and exclusions apply. This is not a blanket warranty statement for every Hercules product.
