There isn’t enough accessible evidence to verify a specific set of seven Consumer Reports counter-depth picks for 2026. Consumer Reports’ roundup page could not be confirmed, and the accessible article attributed to the organization lists 12 refrigerators across different layouts—not seven verified counter-depth models. This guide separates the available model examples by source and explains how to check fit, capacity, performance, and reliability before choosing a refrigerator.

Can these be called Consumer Reports’ seven best counter-depth refrigerators?

Not on the available evidence. Quartz’s article, updated September 29, 2026, attributes a 12-model roundup to Consumer Reports, but that is not confirmation of the seven-model selection promised by this title. Some models in the broader list are standard-depth or compact-space options rather than counter-depth refrigerators. The Consumer Reports roundup page itself could not be verified.

The models below are therefore examples with clearly attributed findings—not a ranked Consumer Reports top seven. Quartz summarizes Consumer Reports results for four models; RTINGS makes separate recommendations for three others. Those recommendations should not be conflated with Consumer Reports selections.

Model examples and what the sources report

Model Source and reported details Considerations
LG LF21G6200S Quartz reports a 33-inch-wide Counter-Depth Max French-door refrigerator with Wi-Fi controls, a built-in water filter, and Energy Star certification. It gives an example price of $1,499 at publication. Quartz says Consumer Reports found steady, even temperatures and quiet operation, but weaker icemaker and crisper results. It also reports fair reliability and satisfaction marks for LG French-door models. Confirm current model status, dimensions, ratings, and price.
GE GZS22IYNFS Quartz reports an example price of $1,883, dimensions of 36 by 29 inches, through-the-door water and ice, and easy-to-use controls. Quartz says Consumer Reports found it held its set temperature closely and cooled evenly. The article also reports lower owner satisfaction for GE side-by-sides despite good brand reliability scores.
Frigidaire GRSC2352AF Quartz reports an example price of $1,599, an icemaker, door dispenser, water and air filters, and strong temperature-control and ease-of-use results. Quartz reports weaker crisper performance. Check exact installation dimensions and current price.
Forno FFRBI1805-33WHT Quartz describes a 33-inch-wide, 25-inch-deep side-by-side without water or ice dispensing, and reports quiet, efficient operation. Quartz reports weaker crisper performance. A Consumer Reports ratings search result confirms its counter-depth classification, but does not establish it as a “best” pick.
LG LRFLC2706S RTINGS names it its budget counter-depth recommendation and reports strengths in temperature uniformity and capacity. Its Counter-Depth MAX design offers more space than conventional counter-depth units. RTINGS reports weaker produce preservation than its more expensive Samsung comparison. This is an RTINGS recommendation, not a Consumer Reports selection.
Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS RTINGS names it its best counter-depth refrigerator and reports strong produce preservation and parts availability. RTINGS notes limited freezer space; its large ice tray takes up some of the upper drawer. This is an RTINGS recommendation, not a Consumer Reports selection.
Samsung Bespoke RM80F23VMR RTINGS names it its upper mid-range choice and reports consistent temperatures and a larger, partitioned freezer than the Bosch comparison. RTINGS reports weaker produce preservation and parts availability. This is an RTINGS recommendation, not a Consumer Reports selection.

The prices above are examples Quartz reported at publication, not current quotes. Check live pricing, stock, delivery, installation, and service coverage with a retailer before buying.

What to compare beyond the counter-depth label

Fit, clearances, and door swing

Measure the opening’s height, width, and depth, including trim or cabinets that affect the space. Then check the manufacturer’s installation drawing for the refrigerator body, handles, ventilation, and required clearances. “Counter-depth” does not guarantee a flush front: many refrigerators extend past the countertop. Also confirm there is room for doors and drawers to open fully without hitting a wall, island, or adjacent cabinet. Consumer Reports’ Buying Guide 2026: Refrigerators advises checking each model’s dimensions and making sure its doors can open fully: Consumer Reports buying guide.

Usable storage and layout

Counter-depth models can sacrifice substantial storage compared with deeper refrigerators, according to RTINGS. Compare the usable capacity when available, not only the manufacturer’s total cubic-foot figure: Consumer Reports distinguishes its usable-capacity measure because it better reflects how much can actually be stored. Consider whether French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer, or bottom-freezer organization suits the food and containers you keep. Shelves, bins, icemakers, and dispensers also affect usable space.

Rank #2
Samsung 17.5 cu. ft. Smart Counter Depth 3-Door French Door Refrigerator, Stainless Steel, RF18A5101SR/AA
  • COUNTER DEPTH: Built-in look for a seamless fit. The smooth and streamlined exterior design features beautiful flat doors and easy-to-open recessed handles that blend seamlessly into your cabinetry, adding function and style to your kitchen.
  • WiFi CONNECTIVITY: Wi-Fi connectivity on your fridge isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential for safety and energy conservation. You’ll get immediate notifications if the temperature drops due to a power outage or if you accidentally leave the door open.
  • TWIN COOLING PLUS: Independent fridge and freezer controls keep food fresher, longer.
  • ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED: Eco-friendly and energy-efficient.
  • FINGERPRINT-RESISTANT FINISH: Finish that withstands everyday smudges so you spend less time cleaning.

Cooling, energy, noise, and everyday use

Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide describes comparison measures that include predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, thermostat performance, temperature uniformity, energy efficiency, noise, ease of use, crisper and icemaker performance, usable capacity, and annual energy cost. These categories help explain why a feature-rich refrigerator is not automatically a better fit: a buyer who rarely uses a dispenser may value storage or quieter operation more.

For a concrete example of an official energy record, ENERGY STAR’s KitchenAid KRQC736R* certification entry lists 19.1 cubic feet of capacity and 645 kWh per year; the record was captured August 3, 2026. Those figures describe that product record, not a general counter-depth benchmark or one of the verified seven picks: ENERGY STAR certification record.

Water, ice, and connectivity

Feature sets vary: through-door water and ice, internal icemakers, filtered water, adjustable shelves, and Wi-Fi are not universal. Choose features based on how you use the refrigerator, and check their effect on storage and maintenance. In particular, an icemaker is a convenience with a reliability trade-off, not a free upgrade.

What reliability figures can—and cannot—tell you

Consumer Reports’ 2026 reliability analysis draws on 85,290 refrigerators with icemakers purchased between 2016 and 2026 in its three most recent annual member surveys. It estimates that 30 percent of refrigerators with icemakers will have a problem by the end of the fifth year of ownership. That is a population-level estimate for the analyzed refrigerators, not a prediction for a particular model or individual unit. Brand-level reliability and satisfaction results also should not be treated as guarantees: Consumer Reports refrigerator reliability and survey context.

A practical pre-purchase check

  1. Measure the space. Record opening height, width, and depth; include any trim, countertop overhang, and obstacles along the delivery route.
  2. Check the installation drawing. Confirm the appliance’s full dimensions, required clearances, and door and drawer swing in the manufacturer’s documentation.
  3. Compare capacity and layout. Look for usable capacity when available, and decide which refrigerator configuration and storage arrangement suit your household.
  4. Weigh performance against features. Compare cooling consistency, noise, energy use, produce preservation, ease of use, water and ice features, and reliability information.
  5. Verify the actual deal and service. Recheck model availability, price, delivery, installation requirements, and local service coverage before placing an order.
