Install ball-bearing drawer slides by matching the slide length and side-space specification to the drawer and cabinet, then fastening both members level, parallel and at equal heights. Check the fit before tightening every screw, keep the ball retainers forward when inserting the drawer, and test the finished installation through its full travel.
Choose slides and check the fit
Choose a matching pair of side-mount slides that fits the drawer depth and cabinet opening. Compare the product’s closed length, load rating, required side space, extension type, disconnect mechanism, mounting orientation, supplied fasteners and adjustment features. Capacity depends on the specific model and how it is mounted; use the manufacturer’s rating for your installation.
Accuride defines slide length as the longest dimension of the fully closed slide and recommends using the maximum length that fits the application. Check the selected slide’s product drawing and data sheet before drilling.
Measure side space on both sides
Side space is the clearance between each drawer side and the cabinet side. Measure the slide thickness and the available clearance on both sides. Accuride’s general guidance is that side space should be slightly greater than slide thickness, typically by 0.2–0.5 mm; the model’s data sheet takes priority. For example, Accuride gives 12.9–13.2 mm of side space for its 12.7 mm-thick 3832 slide. See Accuride’s side-space guidance.

Check the cabinet and drawer
- Measure the cabinet opening at the front and back. Its width should be consistent along the slide path.
- Check that the drawer is square and that neither the cabinet nor drawer is twisted.
- Mark a level baseline at the same height on both cabinet sides.
- If the drawer has an inset front, account for the front-panel thickness when setting the slide setback.
Gather tools and fasteners
You will need a matching pair of slides, a screwdriver, pencil or scribe, ruler or tape measure, and level. A drill and suitable pilot bit can help where the manufacturer recommends pre-drilling. King Slide cautions that fastening without pre-drilling can leave sawdust that interferes with slide operation.
Use the model-specified pan-head wood screws or machine screws. Do not use fasteners with heads that project into or obstruct the moving channel. The Everbilt D806 product guide lists a screwdriver, pencil, ruler and level among its installation tools.

Install the cabinet and drawer members
- Separate the members if the slides disconnect. Press each release lever and slide the inner drawer member away from the outer cabinet member. Do not force a model that uses a different disconnect method.
- Position the cabinet members. Place each outer member on its level baseline. Keep the two slides parallel and level from front to back. Accuride’s example sets the outer member 2 mm back from the cabinet front, but use the selected model’s drawing if it specifies another setback.
- Fasten loosely through adjustment holes. Start with slotted or oval holes so you can correct alignment. Leave the screws snug rather than fully tightened.
- Attach the drawer members. Fasten each inner member to the drawer side at the same height, keeping the members parallel. They are normally placed on or just below the drawer centre line for stability; follow the product instructions for placement and front setback.
- Check height and clearance. Confirm that both sides have equal height and the specified side space along the slide path. Tighten the screws only after alignment is right.
- Finish fastening. Once the drawer moves smoothly, add the remaining screws, including those in final round holes where provided. Check that no screw head protrudes into a moving channel.
Insert and test the drawer
- Move both ball-bearing retainers to their forward position.
- Hold the drawer level and align its inner members with the cabinet members.
- Push the drawer closed gently until the members engage. If it catches, stop and realign rather than forcing it.
- Open and close the drawer several times. It should travel fully without scraping, rocking or unusual resistance.
Fix binding, unevenness or looseness
Drawer rubs or will not close
Check the side clearance along the full slide length, cabinet squareness, equal slide heights and parallel alignment. Loosen the screws in slotted holes, realign the members and retighten. A twisted drawer or cabinet opening that changes width can cause binding even when the slides themselves are level.
Drawer sticks while being inserted
Move both retainers forward, hold the drawer level and realign the inner and outer members. Do not force a misaligned slide into engagement.

Drawer front sits unevenly
Some slide models have a front cam or socket adjustment. Make small vertical corrections, test the drawer, then install the remaining screws once the front is aligned.
Drawer feels loose
Measure the side space and compare it with the selected model’s specification. Excessive or inconsistent clearance can cause looseness; ball-bearing slides do not compensate for large gaps.

Concerned about load capacity
Use the rating for the exact model and mounting orientation. The 2005 Everbilt D806 installation guide states a capacity of 100 lb per pair for that series; that figure does not apply to other slides. Accuride warns that flat mounting can substantially reduce load rating, so do not assume a side-mounted rating holds in another orientation.
