Philips Hue’s latest lineup is not one launch but a rolling expansion announced between September 2025 and June 2026. It includes the higher-capacity Hue Bridge Pro, lower-cost Essential bulbs, redesigned light strips, SpatialAware software, new Play entertainment lamps, next-generation candle bulbs, security products and—so far for Europe—wired switches and a wall-switch module.
For US buyers, several products are already listed in Philips Hue’s online store, while the wired controls remain a regional announcement rather than a confirmed US release. Prices and stock below are snapshots checked on August 18, 2026, not guaranteed permanent US list prices.
At a glance: what Hue has announced
- September 4, 2025: Hue announced Bridge Pro, the Essential range, updated light strips, MotionAware, AI-assisted controls and a broader lighting-and-security strategy.
- January 7, 2026: Signify announced SpatialAware Scenes, designed to account for room layout and light placement when rendering scenes.
- June 16, 2026: Hue announced wired On/Off and Dimmer Switches, a Wired Wall Switch Module, new Play table and floor lamps, and next-generation candle bulbs.
The announcements point to Hue becoming more than a premium smart-bulb system: it is moving toward a connected platform for lighting, entertainment, security and home automation. That broader ambition does not mean every feature or product is available in every country.
Signify’s September 2025 announcement, January 2026 SpatialAware announcement and June 2026 product announcement provide the dated source material.

Hue Bridge Pro: a bigger hub, not a mandatory upgrade
The Bridge Pro is Hue’s higher-capacity hub. Philips Hue lists support for 150 or more lights and 50 or more accessories, compared with the standard Bridge’s stated capacity of 50 lights and 12 accessories.
The extra capacity is aimed at large multi-room installations, homes with many sensors and switches, and users interested in Bridge Pro-specific capabilities such as MotionAware, advanced automations and Hue Sync features. The US Bridge Pro page listed it at $139.99, while the standard Bridge pages checked showed $59.99 or $69.99 depending on the page or promotion.
That price difference matters. A one-room installation with one or two Bluetooth bulbs does not need Bridge Pro. A homeowner already using a standard Bridge should upgrade only if the larger capacity or a Pro-only feature solves a real problem. Check Philips Hue’s Bridge Pro page, standard Bridge page and Bridge buying guide for current specifications.
Hue Essential: a cheaper route into the ecosystem
Hue Essential is positioned as the more affordable entry-level range. The US store showed an Essential A19 four-pack at $59.99 and a four-bulb starter kit with Bridge at $119.99 when checked. A two-bulb starter kit was also shown at $99.99.
Essential makes sense for first-time Hue buyers who want access to Hue scenes, accessories and gradual expansion without paying premium prices for every bulb. The trade-off is that “Essential color” should not automatically be treated as identical to a premium full-spectrum or high-lumen Hue lamp. Check each bulb’s base type, lumen output, dimming range, color-temperature range and control requirements.
Depending on the model, buyers may use Bluetooth for direct control or a Bridge for broader automation, remote access, accessories, Matter exposure and entertainment features. A Bridge is not mandatory for ordinary lighting, but it becomes much more valuable as a system grows.
New wired switches and wall controls
The June announcement covers three distinct products:
- Wired On/Off Switch: intended to bring compatible traditional fixtures into the Hue app and ecosystem.
- Wired Dimmer Switch: adds dimming control for compatible conventional fixtures.
- Wired Wall Switch Module: designed to keep Hue smart lights powered behind an existing wall switch, preventing someone from cutting power to the bulbs.
The announcement identifies these products as available in Europe from June 2026. That is not evidence of a US launch. US homeowners should wait for a US product listing, electrical documentation or a separate Signify announcement.
For construction and renovation projects, these are mains-voltage components—not simple battery accessories. Compatibility can depend on wiring, load type, voltage, electrical-box dimensions and whether a neutral wire is required. Local electrical code may also require professional installation. Do not use a generic wiring diagram based only on the product announcement; have a qualified electrician verify the installation.
New Play lamps for TV and gaming rooms
Hue’s new Play table and floor lamps are intended to make entertainment lighting more accessible without relying exclusively on light strips. The US catalog showed the Play Floor lamp large at $149.99 before a displayed promotion and listed the Play table lamp at $384.99 when checked.

- WHAT'S IN THE BOX: This starter kit includes one Hue Bridge Pro, a Hue tap dial smart switch for lights, and three A19 E26 LED smart bulbs that produce cool-to-warm and full-color light.
- MORE CAPACITY: Migrate all your existing Hue devices to the new Bridge and add more with support for 150+ lights and 50+ accessories.
- HUE MotionAware: Program your lights to switch on automatically when movement is detected; all you need are 3 Hue devices with no separate motion sensors required.
- MORE FEATURES: Add a Bridge to unlock Hue Sync lighting, security integration, and capacity to store 500 scenes and more automations for convenience
- WHITE AND COLOR AMBIANCE: With tunable warm-to-cool white light and 16 million colors to choose from, find the perfect light for every mood.
The table lamp is described as HDMI 2.1-certified entertainment lighting capable of 1:1 screen-color synchronization. The exact experience depends on the rest of the setup. Depending on the TV, console and signal path, users may need a Hue Bridge, Hue Sync app or a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K.
A single Play lamp can add an attractive accent, but it is not automatically a complete surround-lighting system. Buyers should confirm compatibility with their display and HDMI arrangement before treating the lamp as a substitute for a full Sync setup.
Next-generation candle bulbs
The new candle-form-factor bulbs add full-spectrum daylight technology, Matter compatibility and improved efficiency. Signify says the generation is 40% more energy efficient than its predecessor.
The US catalog listed a B39 E12 candle bulb with up to 470 lumens, dimming down to 0.2% and Chromasync color precision. The page showed $109.99 when checked, but decorative-bulb pricing can reflect a specific variant, bundle or promotion.
These are candle-shaped bulbs, not candlelight-only bulbs. Also, Matter compatibility does not necessarily mean the bulb operates directly on Matter without a hub. Confirm the exact generation and connectivity method for the model being purchased.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Connectivity: Zigbee, Bluetooth, Matter and Thread
Hue now uses several connectivity paths:
- Bluetooth: simplest for a small number of nearby supported bulbs, but more limited for remote control, accessories and advanced automations.
- Zigbee through a Hue Bridge: the conventional Hue route for scenes, sensors, schedules, remote access and entertainment features.
- Matter through the Bridge: exposes supported Hue products to compatible smart-home platforms.
- Matter over Thread: available only on select newer bulbs and only when the wider Matter-and-Thread setup supports it.
Hue’s Matter documentation says Bridge and Bridge Pro support Matter, but Bluetooth-connected products cannot be used with Matter through the Bridge. It also lists exceptions including the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box and the Tap dial’s dial.
Separately, Signify and Silicon Labs announced select bulbs with concurrent Zigbee and Matter-over-Thread support. That should be read as select-model support, not proof that every Hue product is a native Thread device.
SpatialAware, MotionAware and AI
SpatialAware Scenes
SpatialAware Scenes are intended to understand room layout and light placement so scenes distribute more naturally across a room instead of treating every light as an unrelated point. Signify announced the feature for Bridge Pro and said improved app visualization would arrive in Q1 2026.
The current implementation details—such as the required app version, whether users map light positions manually, whether it works on the original Bridge and which products are supported—should be checked against current support documentation. Do not assume every Hue owner has access simply because the feature was announced.

MotionAware
MotionAware uses Hue lights as motion sensors on Bridge Pro. That could reduce the need for separate sensors in some rooms, but it is primarily a Bridge Pro feature and should not be confused with a universal replacement for dedicated motion hardware.
AI-assisted controls
Signify has described an AI assistant that can accept typed or spoken requests to create lighting moods and improve from feedback. Availability may vary by country, language and app version. The announcements do not justify claiming that the feature is local, private, offline or capable of autonomous whole-home control. Account, internet and cloud-service requirements should be verified in current Hue documentation.

- WHAT’S IN THE BOX: Includes one Hue Bridge that unlocks the full potential of your Philips Hue system, including automations, smart control from anywhere in the world, and so much more
- SECURE AND STABLE CONNECTION: With Zigbee advanced technology, the bridge ensures a reliable connection that won't strain your Wi-Fi, Hue lights work when your Wi-Fi is down
- CONTROL LIGHTS FROM ANYWHERE: The Hue hub enables out-of-home control, control your lights with the Hue app anywhere you have an internet connection, with your home assistant
- ENJOY SMART LIGHTING FOR YOUR ENTIRE HOME, INDOORS AND OUT: Add up to 50 lights and accessories to your smart lighting system, a Hue Bridge is required to control Hue outdoor lights and accessories
- LEVEL UP YOUR MOVIES, MUSIC, AND GAMES WITH SURROUND LIGHTING: Make your lights dance, flash, dim and brighten along to your movies, TV shows, PC and music, the sync requires HDMI Sync Box
Security and the wider Hue strategy
Hue’s expansion also includes security cameras, contact sensors and a wired video doorbell, alongside the existing lighting and entertainment portfolio. The goal is to connect lighting responses with security events—for example, using lights as part of an alert or arrival routine.
That is useful for existing Hue owners who want one ecosystem, but it does not automatically make Hue the best dedicated security platform. Buyers who need extensive camera coverage, professional monitoring, long retention, broad subscription choices or advanced security analytics should compare dedicated security systems separately.

Should you buy or upgrade?
Choose an Essential starter kit if:
- You are entering Hue for the first time.
- You want Hue scenes and accessories at a lower initial price.
- You plan to expand gradually.
Choose Bridge Pro if:
- You have, or expect to build, a large multi-room installation.
- You want MotionAware or other Pro-specific features.
- You use many accessories or advanced entertainment automations.
Keep a standard Bridge if:
- Your current system is small and reliable.
- You do not need Bridge Pro-exclusive features.
- You mainly want ordinary scenes, schedules and accessory control.
Consider Play lamps or strips if:
- TV and gaming lighting is your priority.
- You already have, or are prepared to buy, compatible Hue synchronization hardware.
- You value unified Hue control over the lowest-cost bias lighting.
Consider new candle bulbs if:
- You need E12 decorative bulbs for chandeliers, sconces or exposed fixtures.
- You want the newer Matter-compatible generation.
- You accept a substantially higher price than ordinary smart bulbs.
Wait on wired switches if:
- You are in the US and have not found a confirmed US listing.
- You rent or cannot modify fixed wiring.
- Your wiring, electrical box or local code has not been checked.
Do not confuse Hue with WiZ
Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting/WiZ are separate platforms. WiZ is generally positioned as a more affordable, Wi-Fi-oriented alternative, while Hue centers on its Bridge-based ecosystem, accessories, scenes, entertainment synchronization and broader integrations.
A WiZ product may be sensible for a budget-focused buyer, but it should not be described as a Hue bulb or expected to work with Hue accessories and Hue Sync. Matter-native bulbs from other vendors may also suit buyers who prioritize cross-platform flexibility and want to avoid a proprietary lighting bridge, but they may not match Hue’s accessory and entertainment ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the Hue Bridge Pro for normal Hue bulbs?
No. A standard Hue Bridge is sufficient for many homes. Bridge Pro is mainly justified by its higher capacity and features such as MotionAware or other Pro-specific capabilities.
Are Hue’s new wired switches available in the United States?
The June 2026 announcement identified the wired On/Off Switch, Wired Dimmer Switch and Wired Wall Switch Module for Europe from June 2026. Do not assume US availability without a US listing or official announcement.
Does Matter eliminate the need for a Hue Bridge?
Not necessarily. Hue supports Matter through the Bridge and Bridge Pro, while Bluetooth-connected products cannot be used with Matter through the Bridge. Select newer bulbs may also support Matter over Thread, but connectivity varies by model.
Should existing Hue owners upgrade to Bridge Pro?
Only if the larger capacity or a Pro-only feature matters. Small, stable systems can generally keep the standard Bridge; migration requirements should be checked before replacing it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Bottom Line
Bottom line: Hue’s latest lineup is a broad platform expansion, not a single launch. Essential lowers the entry price, Bridge Pro targets larger and more advanced systems, Play products expand entertainment lighting, and new candle bulbs improve decorative options. The wired controls are currently a Europe-focused announcement, while AI and SpatialAware still require feature-by-feature availability checks. For most buyers, start with the product that solves a specific need rather than assuming every new announcement requires a Bridge Pro upgrade.
