Xiaomi’s compact MIJIA Handheld Steam Ironing Machine, officially listed in several markets as the Xiaomi Handheld Garment Steamer (MJGTJ02LF), is designed for fast garment touch-ups rather than perfectly pressed tailoring. Xiaomi claims it heats up in 26 seconds, combines vertical steaming with horizontal ironing, and can handle up to six shirts under its test conditions.
However, this is not the same product as Xiaomi’s newer 2026 MIJIA Ironing Machine 2. That China-market appliance is a larger, more powerful ironing system. The distinction matters when comparing performance, price, availability, and electrical compatibility.

How quickly does it heat up?
Xiaomi claims the MJGTJ02LF produces steam in 26 seconds. That figure comes from Xiaomi’s stated test conditions and Lofans Labs report QES/YL02811493-2024; it should not be treated as a guaranteed result in every home. Room temperature, water level, voltage, and the appliance’s condition can affect warm-up time.

What the steam can—and cannot—do
The compact steamer is best suited to light and moderate wrinkles in shirts, dresses, lightweight jackets, and other garments that need a quick refresh before work or travel. Its claimed steam output is 20 ± 4 g/min, while Xiaomi lists steam pressure at 30 kPa.
Vertical steaming is convenient for garments hanging on a hanger. Horizontal use adds contact between the ceramic-coated plate and the fabric, making it more effective on thicker material than holding the appliance away from the garment. Even so, it is not a universal replacement for a traditional iron. Deep linen creases, crisp trouser pleats, collars, cuffs, tailored wool, and sharp pressed edges usually benefit from a full-size iron and ironing board.

Tank capacity and portability
The water tank holds a nominal 160 mL. Xiaomi says that is enough for up to six shirts, but the claim comes from specified laboratory testing. Actual usage depends on fabric thickness, wrinkle severity, steaming duration, and whether the appliance is used vertically or horizontally.
The body folds to approximately 243 × 92 × 108 mm, compared with unfolded dimensions of about 172.5 × 92 × 237 mm. At roughly 770–775 g, it is reasonably portable, but it is still a corded 1,300-watt appliance. It cannot be used without access to compatible mains power.
Fabric safety: suitable does not mean risk-free
Xiaomi lists silk, synthetics, linen, nylon, wool, and cotton among the fabrics the device can treat. The company’s instructions still require care:

- Steam wool and synthetic fabrics from the reverse side to reduce shiny marks or streaks.
- Place a soft cloth or towel between the plate and silk.
- Do not leave the hot plate resting on clothing for an extended period.
Always follow the garment’s care label first. Test an inconspicuous area when the fabric, dye, finish, or construction is uncertain.
What Xiaomi says about hygiene
Xiaomi reports up to 99.99% removal of mites and bacteria in specified laboratory tests involving Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. The cited tests used controlled steaming distances, times, speeds, and fabric samples.
That is not a universal sterilization guarantee. In ordinary household use, results vary with the fabric, steaming distance, exposure time, and coverage. The claim should be understood as a laboratory result reported by Xiaomi, not proof that every garment will be free of all pathogens.

MIJIA Ironing Machine 2 is a different product
As of August 18, 2026, Xiaomi’s newer related product is the MIJIA Ironing Machine 2, launched in China in April 2026. It uses a separate main unit and ironing head and is positioned more like a compact pressurized ironing station than a foldable handheld steamer.

The Ironing Machine 2’s specifications come from Xiaomi’s China launch materials and reporting by IT Home. Its reported figures indicate a different class of appliance, but they are not independent performance tests.

The compact MJGTJ02LF is officially listed on Xiaomi’s global website, but the reviewed specifications state 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz. A standard U.S. household outlet is generally 120 V. A plug adapter changes the connector shape; it normally does not convert voltage.

U.S. buyers should check the exact voltage printed on the appliance, whether the seller offers a genuine compatible version, transformer requirements for a 1,300-watt heating appliance, warranty coverage, returns, and replacement-part availability. For many U.S. households, a locally sold 120 V steamer or iron is the safer and more practical option.
The MIJIA Ironing Machine 2’s reported 599-yuan standard price and 509-yuan introductory price are China-market launch prices, not confirmed U.S. retail prices. Xiaomi’s China buying page is the relevant official listing, but international buyers should not assume global availability or warranty support.

- Fill and correctly lock the water tank.
- Hang the garment securely and keep your hands away from the hot plate and steam outlet.
- Wait for heating to finish before pressing the steam button.
- Move the head steadily rather than holding it in one place.
- Release steam briefly into the air before ironing if residual water or scale may be present.
- Empty and dry the tank after use, then clean the steam outlets as directed.
- Allow the appliance to cool completely before folding and storing it.
Loud pumping when the tank is empty or incorrectly installed, reduced steam, water droplets, or uneven output can indicate an empty tank, scale, blocked outlets, or excessive steam use. Xiaomi’s user manual covers the product’s safety and cleaning instructions.
Which one makes sense?
- Choose the compact handheld model for quick touch-ups, travel, limited storage, and light-to-medium wrinkles—provided the voltage is compatible.
- Consider the MIJIA Ironing Machine 2 if you want stronger home ironing performance, handle thicker garments frequently, and can verify China-market availability, voltage, warranty, and parts support.
- Choose a traditional iron if sharp creases, cuffs, collars, pleats, and trouser seams matter most.
- Choose a full-size garment steamer if you regularly process many garments and need a larger tank and longer continuous runtime.
Verdict
The Xiaomi Handheld Garment Steamer is a compact convenience tool, not a promise of perfectly pressed clothing in every situation. Its foldable design, 26-second claimed warm-up, dual orientation, and small tank make it appealing for fast garment refreshes and small living spaces. Its 220–240 V rating, corded design, limited tank, and modest steam output matter just as much as its headline claims.
The newer MIJIA Ironing Machine 2 is more relevant to heavy-duty home ironing, but it is a separate China-market product rather than a simple update to the handheld MJGTJ02LF. Buyers should prioritize compatible voltage, local support, and realistic fabric needs over an attractive import price.
