Short answer: the Xiaomi Outdoor Camera 4 looks like exceptional value at its reported Chinese launch price, but it is not yet an obvious bargain for U.S. buyers. “Outdoor Camera 4” refers to several China-market models, and importing one can bring region restrictions, 12V wiring requirements, uncertain cloud support, taxes, and limited warranty protection.
For a Chinese-market buyer or experienced importer, the specifications are compelling. For most homeowners who want straightforward installation and local support, a globally sold model such as Xiaomi’s CW400, CW500 Dual, or BW500 may be the better value.
First, identify which Outdoor Camera 4 you are buying
The name is ambiguous. Current coverage uses “Xiaomi Outdoor Camera 4” for at least three different products:
- MJSXJ12HL: a single-lens wired camera documented with 4K/8MP video.
- MJSXJ10HL: the Outdoor Camera 4 Dual-Cam Edition, with two lenses and 3K video, reported as a 2025 China launch.
- Xiaomi Smart Outdoor Camera 4 4G: a later dual-camera model using cellular connectivity rather than ordinary Wi-Fi.
These are not interchangeable. Check the model number on the listing, box, and manual before comparing specifications or ordering accessories.

Price: $35 or $42 is not the delivered U.S. price
The single-lens MJSXJ12HL was reported at approximately 249 yuan, or about $35, during an introductory Chinese promotion. The dual-lens MJSXJ10HL was reported at approximately 299 yuan, or about $42, at launch. Those figures are currency conversions of China-market launch prices—not confirmed U.S. retail prices or recommended delivered costs.
An imported camera may cost substantially more after shipping, taxes, payment fees, reseller margins, replacement risk, and return postage. It may also lack a local warranty. A $35 headline price can therefore disappear once the camera is installed and supported.
As of August 18, 2026, Xiaomi’s global security-camera catalog clearly lists models such as the CW500 Dual, BW500, CW400, and CW300, but does not clearly list the Outdoor Camera 4 under that exact name. Official U.S. availability, U.S. certification, local warranty coverage, and global app support should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.

The dual-lens design is useful for showing a broad view while inspecting or following a subject with the second lens. It is not the same as installing two cameras in two separate locations: both lenses depend on one mounting point, one power route, and one network connection.
The 4G model is a separate product
The Xiaomi Smart Outdoor Camera 4 4G was announced in China in 2026. It should not be confused with either Wi-Fi Outdoor Camera 4. Before importing the 4G version, a buyer would need to verify LTE bands, SIM or carrier restrictions, data-service terms, and whether the device works on local networks. Those details are not established by the available evidence.
Rank #2
- Ultra-clear picture quality Amazing details even zoomed in The 4MP camera with the f/1.6 large aperture lens presents 2.5K ultra-clear picture quality, offering a clearer and finer image when you zoom in for more details.
- Four full-color night vision LEDs Achieve clear visibility at night The camera comes with a white light that automatically lights up at night when it recognizes a human figure, providing a colored image in dark surroundings.
- Horizontal and vertical gimbals Greater viewing angle for more peace of mind The dual-motor pan-tilt zoom design allows users to rotate the lens in all directions via their smartphone, allowing for a larger viewing angle as well as more flexible and reassuring protection.
- Professional IP66 water and dust resistant design No fear of adverse weather conditions The IP66 water and dust resistance rating enables stable performance in adverse weather conditions.
- Human detection supported Automatic notification when someone approaches The camera uses a next-generation local AI human-detection algorithm to detect humans more accurately and faster, no cloud needed. When a person is detected, the camera automatically records alert videos and sends notifications to your smartphone.
Wired power changes the installation
The documented Wi-Fi Outdoor Camera 4 models require a 12V/1A power supply. They are not battery cameras and should not be compared directly with battery-powered products such as Blink Outdoor 4 or Xiaomi BW500.
Plan the installation before buying:
- Confirm that a protected route exists for low-voltage power.
- Keep the power adapter inside a sheltered, weather-appropriate enclosure. IP66 applies to the camera—not automatically to the adapter, plug, extension connection, or cable junction.
- Use the supplied sealing components on cable connections.
- Test Wi-Fi at the proposed mounting location before drilling.
- Follow applicable electrical codes; use a qualified installer where outdoor power routing requires it.
The available evidence does not establish that the network connection supports Power over Ethernet. Do not assume that an Ethernet socket means PoE.
What IP66 does—and does not—mean
IP66 indicates dust-tight construction and protection against powerful water jets under specified test conditions. It does not mean the camera can be submerged, left in standing water, or exposed to close-range pressure washing. Snow buildup, condensation, salt air, and poorly sealed connections can still cause problems.
Describe this camera as IP66-rated weather-resistant, not simply “waterproof.” Mount it beneath an eave where possible, angle it to reduce water and glare, and protect every exposed connection.
Video quality: impressive on paper, not guaranteed evidence
A 4K/8MP single-lens camera is unusually ambitious at the reported launch price. The dual-lens model gives up some total resolution but adds wide and telephoto coverage. Neither specification guarantees readable faces or license plates.
- A wide view covers more ground but makes distant subjects smaller.
- A telephoto view can preserve more subject detail but covers less area.
- Digital zoom cannot recreate detail that was never captured.
- Night footage depends on exposure, compression, weather, lighting, and subject movement.
- High resolution does not guarantee identification at the edge of the frame.
No controlled independent footage in the available evidence supports a definitive real-world image-quality verdict. Treat the resolution as a strong specification, not proof of forensic performance.

Night vision and white-light trade-offs
Coverage of the single-lens model describes 940nm infrared night vision and a claimed range of up to 10 metres. The dual-lens model is described as using infrared and white lights for full-color night scenes. These are manufacturer or secondary-publication claims, and actual distance varies with installation and conditions.
Infrared illumination is less intrusive but generally produces monochrome footage. White light can preserve color in darkness, but it may annoy neighbors, attract attention, or illuminate adjoining property. Rain, fog, insects, spider webs, and reflective surfaces can also degrade night images.
AI detection is useful classification, not perfect recognition
The cameras are advertised as detecting people, vehicles, and animals, with tracking on the reported models. Local processing may reduce dependence on cloud analysis, but it does not guarantee instant or accurate alerts. Missed events and false notifications can result from lighting, subject direction, network latency, phone background restrictions, firmware, detection zones, or cloud routing.
“Face recognition” should not be interpreted as guaranteed identity verification, and person detection is not the same as reliable forensic identification. Configure activity zones and privacy masks carefully, especially where the camera may view neighboring property or a public path.

Storage and subscriptions
The single-lens manual lists microSD cards from 8GB to 256GB and cloud storage. Reports on the dual-lens version also mention NAS support. The exact split between free and paid cloud features, retention periods, and remote-playback functions is not sufficiently verified for every region and firmware version.
| Storage method | Advantage | Risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| microSD | Low ongoing cost and local recording | Cards fail; theft or damage to the camera can take recordings with it |
| NAS | Potentially better local control and capacity | Compatibility and setup must be confirmed for the exact firmware |
| Cloud | Off-site copies if the camera is stolen or damaged | May involve fees, account dependence, regional terms, and retention limits |
Local microSD support appears to be available, but do not promise a completely subscription-free experience until the region-specific documentation confirms which features continue without Xiaomi cloud service. For comparison, Blink’s Outdoor 4 documentation explains its cloud plans and local-storage requirements through compatible Sync Module hardware.

The biggest import risk: Xiaomi Home region support
A China-version camera may require the Xiaomi Home/Mi Home app to be set to Mainland China. A manual listing for the dual-lens model explicitly identifies it as a China version and states that Mainland China must be selected during setup.
This can affect whether the camera appears in the app, whether it can coexist with devices registered in another region, which servers handle data, notification behavior, firmware updates, language, and smart-home integrations. A future app or firmware update could also change functionality. An imported device may have no local repair or replacement route.

Xiaomi CW400
The globally listed CW400 is a more defensible choice for buyers who want documented global support. It is a wired 1440p camera with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, microSD support up to 256GB, and IP66 protection. You give up the Outdoor Camera 4’s reported 4K resolution and newer feature claims, but gain a clearer product identity.
Xiaomi CW500 Dual
The CW500 Dual offers a globally positioned dual-lens design, dual 4MP lenses, 2.5K imaging, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, and IP66 protection. It may cost more than the Chinese launch price, but its global documentation makes the comparison fairer.
Xiaomi BW500
The battery-powered BW500 is better suited to locations without convenient wired power. Xiaomi’s claimed 180-day runtime depends on a stated trigger scenario, so high-traffic areas and frequent recording will reduce practical battery life. It is not a substitute for continuous wired recording.

Blink Outdoor 4
Blink Outdoor 4 is a 1080p battery camera with two-way audio, Sync Module connectivity, cloud options, and local storage through compatible hardware. It offers a clearer U.S.-oriented ecosystem and Alexa integration, but lower resolution and greater dependence on Blink’s storage ecosystem for some features.
TP-Link Tapo, Eufy, Reolink, Ring, and Arlo also deserve consideration, but their current prices, storage policies, and model-specific capabilities should be checked before purchase rather than assumed from the brand name.

Who should buy it?
Consider it if you are buying within its intended China market, understand Xiaomi’s regional ecosystem, want a wired camera, value local storage, and accept uncertain international support.
Avoid importing it if you expect plug-and-play U.S. setup, need a local warranty, require Apple HomeKit, want battery or solar operation, lack protected 12V power, or need dependable off-site evidence retention without region-dependent cloud policies.

The Xiaomi Outdoor Camera 4 is a remarkable China-market proposition on paper: the single-lens model reportedly combines 4K video, dual-band connectivity, local storage, AI features, and IP66 protection at roughly $35, while the dual-lens edition adds wide and telephoto coverage for about $42 at launch.
But those are not confirmed U.S. prices, and the camera’s value changes sharply when import costs, app-region requirements, installation work, warranty limitations, and uncertain cloud support are included. For a technically confident importer, it may be an excellent low-cost experiment. For most U.S. homeowners, a globally documented Xiaomi model—or another locally supported wired camera—will be the safer bargain.
