Xiaomi’s Outdoor Camera 4 Dual-Cam Edition was announced for China on May 31, 2025—not as a new August 2026 launch. Reported sales were scheduled for June 3, 2025, at 299 yuan, roughly $42 at the time. Its main distinction is a fixed wide-angle camera paired with a motorized PTZ camera that can track people or vehicles detected by the fixed lens.
Xiaomi confirms the product on its Chinese store, but the available evidence does not establish official U.S. availability, a U.S. price, English-language support, or an international warranty.

Why the dual-camera design matters
The camera is designed to avoid one of the usual compromises of a single pan-and-tilt security camera. The fixed 2.8mm lens is intended to keep a broad overview of an entrance, driveway, courtyard or other outdoor area. The separate 6mm PTZ camera provides a narrower, closer view and can move to follow a detected subject.

According to the launch report, the fixed camera identifies a person or vehicle and the PTZ unit then automatically follows it. That is different from a single camera digitally cropping into part of an image: the wide camera can continue monitoring the scene while the second camera handles closer tracking.
“AI tracking” should not be read as guaranteed recognition. Tracking can fail when a person is partly hidden, moves quickly, leaves the PTZ camera’s mechanical range or is one of several simultaneous subjects. Rain, fog, glare, insects and poor placement can also affect detection. Mounting the camera too high, too close to a wall or with poorly overlapping views may reduce the usefulness of the two-camera arrangement.

The available material does not confirm whether both cameras record continuously at the same time, how the combined views are presented, or whether one camera is used only as a tracking reference.
What Xiaomi’s “3K” claim means
The reported recording resolution is 2,880 × 1,620 pixels, commonly marketed as 3K because of its approximate horizontal pixel count. That is sharper than conventional 1440p or “2K” surveillance video, but below 4K, which is normally 3,840 × 2,160 pixels.
The report attributes the capability to two 5-megapixel sensors. A 5MP sensor does not automatically mean every recording mode produces a 5MP video stream, however. Actual output can vary by camera, mode, frame rate and firmware.
No verified specification in the supplied sources establishes the frame rate, codec, bitrate, recording modes or whether both cameras can record at 2,880 × 1,620 simultaneously. Buyers should therefore treat 3K as the headline resolution claim rather than evidence of a particular image quality or storage requirement.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Night vision uses both infrared and visible light
The reported night system combines infrared illumination with white LEDs on each lens. The camera can activate its lighting when it detects human movement in low light, enabling what Xiaomi describes as full-color night vision.
That generally means color footage is produced with the help of visible white light; it does not necessarily mean color images in complete darkness without illumination. White LEDs may show more detail than infrared-only footage, but they can be more noticeable to neighbors or intruders. They can also create reflections on glass, wet surfaces or pale walls.
The available report does not specify illumination distance, infrared wavelength, low-light sensitivity or night-video frame rate. Rain, fog, spider webs, headlights and reflective surfaces may still reduce the usable image.

Alerts, zones and deterrence
Reported features include local AI detection for people and vehicles, real-time app alerts with video clips, polygon-shaped detection zones, sound and light alarms, two-way audio and time-lapse recording.

It does not prove that every recognition or cloud feature is local.
Xiaomi’s privacy documentation says camera-related cloud recognition may involve uploading footage when the relevant cloud function is enabled. That distinction matters for homeowners deciding whether to use local microSD or NAS recording, cloud services, or both.
The microphone and speaker support two-way communication, while the sound and light alarms provide a deterrent. The supplied evidence does not confirm whether audio is full-duplex, how loud or configurable the siren is, or whether alarm schedules are available. Audible alarms may disturb neighbors or be restricted by local rules, and they are not a substitute for secure locks, lighting, physical barriers or monitored security.
Connectivity: Ethernet does not mean PoE
The reported connectivity list includes dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet and Bluetooth 5.0 for pairing with the Mi Home/Xiaomi Home ecosystem.
Ethernet may be useful where outdoor Wi-Fi has to pass through masonry, foil insulation or long distances. But Ethernet support does not establish Power over Ethernet support. The available evidence does not verify PoE, so an installer should not assume that a network cable can power the camera.
Wi-Fi 6 is also not a guarantee of better outdoor range. The result will depend on the router, access-point placement, walls, interference and regional firmware. The report does not establish whether every regional version supports the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz behavior, whether Ethernet and Wi-Fi can operate simultaneously, or which Mi Home account region is required.

Launch coverage lists microSD storage up to 256GB, NAS storage and subscription-based Xiaomi Cloud. A high-endurance surveillance microSD card is preferable to an ordinary card if the camera records continuously, because repeated writing can wear out consumer cards.
NAS recording may depend on the supported protocol, firmware, network configuration and Mi Home region. A router change, new IP address or altered credentials can interrupt recording. A failed card may also remove historical footage unless the app provides usable health or failure alerts.

Cloud storage can simplify remote access but introduces recurring fees, retention limits and additional privacy considerations. The supplied evidence does not verify cloud plan names, retention periods, filesystem requirements, NAS protocols or whether the 256GB limit applies identically across firmware versions.
Outdoor installation: IP66 is not submersible
The camera is reported to have an IP66 rating. In practical terms, that indicates dust protection and resistance to powerful water jets under the relevant test conditions. It does not mean the camera can be submerged.
Installers should protect cable joints, exposed connectors and the power adapter from standing water. The rating can be undermined if covers are left open or seals are incorrectly fitted. The reported –30°C to 60°C operating range should also be treated as Xiaomi’s stated camera specification, not as an independently tested result; it may not apply to the power supply, microSD card or network equipment.
Choose a position that avoids direct sunrise, headlights and reflective surfaces. Check the PTZ camera’s upward movement under any eave, and leave enough clearance for its mechanical range. Snow, condensation, insects and direct sun can degrade footage even when the camera remains within its rated environmental limits.
Price and availability
The reported China launch price was 299 yuan, with sales scheduled to begin June 3, 2025. That is a historical China price, not a current U.S. price or an international retail recommendation.
The official Chinese Xiaomi store lists the product, but the available evidence does not establish a U.S. or global launch, FCC availability, English-language support, cloud functionality outside China or an official U.S. warranty. An imported unit may also involve Chinese-region firmware, app-region restrictions, different power plugs, language limitations and limited after-sales support.
Do not confuse this model with Xiaomi’s separately listed Outdoor Camera 4 Pro Triple-Camera Zoom Edition or the CW500 Dual-Cam Edition. Similar names do not make them equivalent products.
Should you buy it?
This camera makes the most sense for a China-market Xiaomi user who wants a broad overview and a closer tracking view around a gate, driveway, courtyard or larger property, and who is comfortable with the Mi Home ecosystem. Its combination of dual cameras, reported 3K output, local storage options and person/vehicle alerts is more flexible than a conventional single rotating camera.
It is a poor fit for anyone who needs confirmed U.S. support or warranty coverage, PoE, battery operation, cellular backup, professional monitoring or guaranteed 4K recording. Privacy-sensitive buyers should also examine which functions remain local and which can upload footage for cloud recognition.
For buyers outside China, waiting for an officially supported regional version is the safer choice. If importing, verify the exact model, Mi Home region, firmware behavior, power requirements, storage support, return policy and warranty before paying—especially since the 299-yuan launch price cannot be used as a reliable landed cost.
