Xiaomi launched the Mijia M40S robot vacuum-mop in China in May 2025. Its headline features include claimed maximum suction of 23,000Pa, a LiDAR navigation module that lowers the robot to 8.8cm for low-clearance cleaning, hair-cutting brush technology, extending edge-cleaning components, and a dock with hot-water mop washing and hot-air drying.
China launch pricing was reported at ¥2,999 for the water-tank version and ¥3,699 for the version with automatic water inlet and drainage. The evidence reviewed does not confirm a US launch, US price, or official global availability.

What is the Xiaomi Mijia M40S?
The Mijia Robot Vacuum-Mop M40S—also written as “M40 S” in some coverage—is a China-market Xiaomi smart-home appliance. “Mijia” is Xiaomi’s China-market smart-home branding, so the M40S should not automatically be treated as the global version of another Xiaomi robot vacuum.
The product was listed for reservation in China on May 10, 2025, with May 13 reported as an announced sales date. Later Chinese retail coverage reported that it was officially on sale from May 26. The clearest summary is therefore that Xiaomi unveiled and listed the M40S in China in May 2025, with reservations preceding its later reported retail availability.

The reported dollar equivalents—roughly $414 and $511 at the time—were currency conversions, not US retail prices. Chinese promotions also changed after launch, so neither the yuan prices nor any converted figure should be presented as a current US MSRP.

Traditional robot vacuums with a fixed LiDAR turret can struggle beneath beds, sofas, and cabinets. The M40S can lower its navigation assembly when approaching low furniture, reducing its stated height to 8.8cm.
This is a navigation-module adjustment, not a transformation of the entire robot into an 8.8cm-thin chassis. The wheels, brush assembly, body, airflow path, and other components still need clearance. Furniture supports or a low internal crossbar can also block the robot even when the front edge appears high enough.
Before buying, measure the lowest point along the robot’s entire route and leave practical tolerance rather than targeting exactly 8.8cm. Rugs, cables, uneven transitions, and furniture geometry may also affect whether the robot can safely enter or exit a space.

What 23,000Pa suction does—and does not—tell you
Xiaomi presents 23,000Pa as the Mijia line’s strongest suction figure at launch. That is a brand-line claim, not an independently verified ranking of all robot vacuums. Pa measures pressure; it does not directly measure total debris pickup.

The figure is useful for positioning the M40S, but it does not prove that it will outperform every competing robot on carpet or hard floors.
Brushes, edge cleaning, and mopping
The M40S is reported to use a dual-blade anti-tangle main brush designed to cut or separate hair during cleaning. It also has an extending side brush intended to reach closer to edges and corners, alongside an extending mop or edge-cleaning mechanism for wall-side coverage.
These features may reduce hair wrapping and improve coverage, but they are not maintenance guarantees. Long hair and pet hair can still collect around brush axles, wheels, side-brush mounts, and the dock tray. Wet hair and damp debris may be especially difficult to clear.
Chinese coverage also describes controlled water delivery using an onboard water tank. Hot-water mop washing does not mean the robot disinfects floors, and dried stains may still require repeated passes or manual treatment. Use only detergents approved for the device: unsuitable chemicals can damage seals, pumps, sensors, flooring, or warranty coverage.

The two dock versions are the major buying decision

Both dock configurations are reported to wash the mops with water up to 80°C, dry them with hot air in approximately two hours, transfer debris into a dust bag, and use dual scraper arms to clean the mop-washing tray. The stated dust-bag interval is up to 75 days, but actual use depends on floor area, cleaning frequency, pets, and debris volume.
The plumbing version is not simply a larger water tank. It needs suitable cabinet space, local plumbing connections, drainage, cable access, and enough service clearance to remove dust bags, filters, trays, and other washable parts. Concealing the dock inside cabinetry can make routine maintenance harder.
Mi Home, Xiao Ai, and HyperOS Connect
The M40S is reported to support the Mi Home/Xiaomi Home app, real-time mapping, route planning, multiple laser-based sensing systems, Xiao Ai voice control in China, and HyperOS Connect integration with compatible Xiaomi devices.
That does not establish identical functionality in every country. App language, firmware, account region, cloud services, voice control, device discovery, and HyperOS compatibility can depend on the product’s market, server region, and software version. A China-market unit may operate physically in another country while still providing a less convenient app or support experience.
Is the M40S available in the United States?
There is no confirmed US launch in the evidence reviewed. Xiaomi’s China store and JD.com list the M40S for the Chinese market, but the reviewed Xiaomi US storefront does not show a confirmed US catalog listing, US MSRP, or US warranty offering for this model.

Xiaomi’s Taiwan smart-home store lists other robot vacuums, including the S40 and X20 Pro, rather than establishing M40S availability there. The S40, for example, is a simpler regional alternative with a reported 10,000Pa rating and conventional LDS navigation, not a feature-for-feature equivalent to the M40S.
US buyers may encounter imported units through third-party sellers, but an import is not the same as an official US launch. Check all of the following before purchasing:
- Whether the device and app support your account region and preferred language.
- Whether the electrical requirements match your home.
- Whether the plumbing dock uses fittings and drainage arrangements available locally.
- Whether replacement dust bags, brushes, filters, mop pads, and detergent are available for this exact model.
- Whether the seller provides meaningful warranty coverage and returns.
- Whether Xiaomi offers local firmware, cloud, and customer-service support.
Who should consider the M40S?
The M40S is most compelling when its specific hardware solves a specific household problem. The retractable LiDAR is valuable for homes with furniture that a conventional turret cannot reach beneath. The anti-tangle brush may appeal to households with long hair or pets, while the premium dock suits users who want less manual mop washing and dust emptying.

The plumbing version makes sense only where automatic water supply and drainage can be installed safely and kept accessible. For renters or buyers wanting a straightforward setup, the water-tank model is the less complicated choice.
Buyers should hesitate if they need local US warranty and service, have no furniture clearance near 8.8cm, want a compact dock, cannot support plumbing work, or are choosing solely because 23,000Pa sounds higher than a competitor’s rating. The extra heaters, pumps, valves, sensors, and moving parts also introduce more components to maintain.
Bottom line
The Mijia M40S is a China-launched robot vacuum-mop whose most distinctive feature is not simply its 23,000Pa headline figure, but its ability to lower the LiDAR module for low-clearance cleaning. Its automated dock is attractive for hands-off mopping, while the two dock versions create a meaningful choice between simpler manual water handling and more complex built-in plumbing.
For US buyers, the decisive issue is availability: the reviewed evidence confirms Chinese listings but not an official US launch. Unless Xiaomi provides regional support, warranty, software compatibility, and consumables, the M40S is best treated as an import with substantial practical trade-offs rather than a confirmed US-market product.
