Work on the new Jadro Bridge at the Širina junction in Solin resumed on 18 August 2026 under Texo Molior, after Hrvatske ceste terminated the previous contractor’s agreement in March. In its first three weeks, the new team placed 576 cubic metres of concrete across five future pier locations. The bridge is planned to take 12 months to complete, with a further six months planned for work on the existing bridges and junction; these are project phases, not guaranteed opening dates.
What has happened at the Jadro Bridge site?
The site was active as of 20 September 2026. Texo Molior took over the remaining works under a €19.4 million contract excluding VAT. The contractor’s early progress is concentrated on the bridge’s lower structure: foundations and other load-bearing elements that will support the steel spans.

Project reporting says crews placed 576 cubic metres of concrete during the first three weeks after the restart. That total includes 280 cubic metres in one foundation, 240 cubic metres in a pile-cap element and 56 cubic metres in the upper load-bearing section of a pier. These are figures reported from the project, not independently audited measurements.
What construction work is under way?
Crews are working at five locations in parallel. The immediate sequence is to finish the remaining foundations and connecting pile-cap elements, then build the piers and pier heads that will carry the steel superstructure.

Chief site engineer Stjepan Kapural described the work as preparation of the supports for the steel structure. Detailed drawings and steel fabrication are proceeding alongside the concrete work. Once the supports are ready, the planned sequence is to protect the steel against corrosion, deliver it to the site, assemble larger sections and erect them on the completed piers.
What work was already complete when the new contractor arrived?
Texo Molior inherited a partly built structure rather than a cleared site. Several pile groups, pile caps, beams and partial piers had already been constructed. The remaining work was uneven across the site: pile position S15 had not been started, while excavation at S13 was reported to be about 60% complete.

This inherited state helps explain why the current phase includes both finishing earlier elements and starting unfinished foundation work. The reported concrete total reflects activity across several locations, not completion of the bridge’s foundations as a whole.
Why did the contractor change?
DIV Grupa entered the project in January 2022. HRT reported that work was suspended for archaeological activity from April 2022 until April 2024; reinforced-concrete piling began after that suspension was lifted. Hrvatske ceste later cited major deviations from the planned schedule and inadequate deployment of resources before terminating DIV Grupa’s contract in March 2026.

The replacement contract covers the remaining works and was awarded to Texo Molior for €19.4 million excluding VAT. The schedule disruption and change in contractor mean that the planned phase durations should be treated as the current project plan, not as a firm public opening commitment.
When is the new bridge expected to open?
Hrvatske ceste’s reported plan allocates 12 months to finish and open the new bridge, followed by six months for rehabilitation of the existing bridges and reconstruction of the junction. The available project reporting does not establish a guaranteed calendar opening date. The 12-month period is a planned construction phase, and the later six-month phase is separate work that follows it.

What does the Širina project include?
The wider reconstruction covers the DC8 state road and connecting county roads around the Širina junction. It is designed to carry a grade-separated route over the junction and the Jadro River, alongside work on Marka Marulića Street, the existing Novi Jadro and Stari Jadro bridges, drainage, lighting, safety equipment and traffic signals.
The new bridge is reported to be approximately 506 metres long. Bauštela’s project description gives a design width of 22.9 metres, with two 8-metre carriageways separated by a 3-metre median. It also describes 17 reinforced-concrete pier positions, steel-and-concrete composite spans, seismic isolators and pile foundations. These are design specifications, not measurements of completed construction.

Why does the project matter to local traffic?
The Širina junction carries more than 40,000 vehicles a day, according to project reporting, and serves traffic between Split, Solin, Kaštela and the hinterland. A grade-separated route and the associated junction reconstruction are intended to improve movement through this busy corridor. The traffic figure is attributed to project reporting rather than an independently audited count.
How are the project phases different?
| Phase | Planned scope | Reported duration |
|---|---|---|
| Phase one | Complete and open the new Jadro Bridge | 12 months, according to the Hrvatske ceste plan reported in 2026 |
| Phase two | Rehabilitate the Novi Jadro and Stari Jadro bridges and reconstruct the Širina junction | Six additional months, according to the Hrvatske ceste plan reported in 2026 |
The distinction matters: the new bridge is scheduled as the first phase, while the existing-bridge rehabilitation and junction reconstruction follow. The reported durations describe planned phases, not assured completion dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Jadro Bridge being built?
The project is at the Širina junction in Solin, where the new route will cross the Jadro River and pass above the junction. The reconstruction also reaches Marka Marulića Street and connecting roads.
What is the difference between the Novi Jadro and Stari Jadro bridges?
They are the two existing bridges named in the project scope; both are scheduled for rehabilitation in the phase after the new bridge. The available project details do not specify their individual ages, dimensions or separate repair packages.
Who is responsible for the Jadro Bridge project?
Hrvatske ceste is the road authority associated with the contract and project plan, and Texo Molior is the contractor carrying out the remaining works. DIV Grupa was the former contractor before its contract was terminated in March 2026.
