The Park at Expo Idaho opened October 23, 2026, on Ada County’s Expo Idaho property in Garden City, next to the Boise River Greenbelt. The free, roughly 50-acre park combines a nature playground, an all-wheel skate area, more than three miles of trails and boardwalks, and restored wetlands. Families can plan an active play visit or a quieter walk, with access from the Greenbelt as well as nearby parking.
Where is The Park at Expo Idaho?
The park is behind the Expo Idaho fairgrounds near Glenwood Street and Chinden Boulevard in Garden City. It connects directly to the Boise River Greenbelt, so visitors can arrive on foot or by bike; parking is near Remington Street and Backstretch Boulevard.

What can kids do at the nature playground?
The Nature Playground is built for climbing, swinging and hands-on play, with features including boulders, rope elements, hammocks, a sandbox and water pump, and tall slides. Local reporting put the tallest slide or structure at about 36–37 feet; individual equipment has age recommendations, so check the posted guidance before children climb.

The playground is intended for adults to join in, too. Ada County project manager Josh Brown described it as “nature play” and encouraged families to climb and play together. The site’s natural materials and varied equipment offer options for different ages and confidence levels, but children still need supervision.
Only service animals are allowed inside the Nature Playground. Dogs, including leashed pets, cannot enter this area.

What is the All-Wheel Skate Garden like?
The All-Wheel Skate Garden is designed for skateboards, bikes, scooters and roller skates. Its features range from entry-level elements to Olympic-inspired challenges, giving beginners and more experienced riders different ways to use the space. The skate area covers about five acres, according to BoiseDev’s 2026 reporting.

Ada County recommends adult supervision for children under 12. A properly fitted helmet is sensible preparation for children using the skate area; it is a safety suggestion, not a stated county requirement. Only service animals are allowed inside the skate garden.
Can visitors walk through wetlands or connect to the Greenbelt?
Yes. The park has more than three miles of trails and boardwalks through restored wetlands and native plantings, with a direct connection to the Boise River Greenbelt. Ada County and Expo Idaho describe the trail network as more than three miles; Boise State Public Radio reported 3.4 miles of paths. The site includes 19 acres of restored wetland habitat, according to BoiseDev.
Boise State Public Radio reported nearly one million plantings and plugs. The landscape will change as native plants establish and grow. Brown said, “When we open, it’s going to be finished, but it’s the worst it’s ever going to look,” and described the park as something that “will grow with you, by design.”

What rules should visitors know before going?
- Dogs must be leashed in areas where they are allowed. Only service animals may enter the Nature Playground and All-Wheel Skate Garden.
- Glass, smoking and vaping, fires and fireworks, and firearms are prohibited under county rules.
- Fishing is not allowed.
- Use the posted age guidance for individual playground equipment, and supervise children, particularly younger riders in the skate garden.
- Plan for daylight hours: the park is open from sun-up to sun-down.
What happened during opening weekend?
The grand-opening weekend ran October 23–25, 2026, with food trucks, live music and tours. Sunday’s schedule included a Trail of Treats event. These were opening-weekend activities, not a promise of recurring programming.
