On a Samsung washer, NF generally means “No Fill.” The machine is not getting water correctly, or it cannot take in enough water to run the cycle. Most of the time the cause is outside the washer, in the water supply, the hoses or the inlet screens, so those checks come first. The exact code list and the fix depend on your model and region, so confirm details against your washer’s own manual.
What the NF code means
Samsung’s legacy support article for the WF337AAR/XAA model states it directly: “The nF error code stands for ‘No Fill.'” Samsung’s US guidance places nF in the same group as 4C, 1 4C and 4E, which it describes as not-filling errors. Samsung’s support pages for the United States, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Australia describe the same basic meaning: water is not entering the machine correctly, or not enough water arrives to run the cycle.
| Code | Where Samsung’s material mentions it | What the material says |
|---|---|---|
| nF / nF1 | Legacy Samsung support article for model WF337AAR/XAA | Defined as “No Fill” |
| nF | Samsung US guidance on not-filling errors | Grouped with 4C, 1 4C and 4E as a not-filling error |
| 4C | Samsung US guidance on not-filling errors | Grouped as a not-filling error; no separate definition stated in the pages reviewed |
| 1 4C | Samsung US guidance on not-filling errors | Grouped as a not-filling error; no separate definition stated in the pages reviewed |
| 4E | Samsung US guidance on not-filling errors | Grouped as a not-filling error; no separate definition stated in the pages reviewed |
The table reflects only what Samsung’s published pages say. Code families differ between models and markets, so a code on your display may not appear in a given article.
Checks to run before anything else
Work through these in order. Each one takes a few minutes and needs no special tools. Samsung does not recommend forcing valves, opening the cabinet or replacing any part based on the NF code alone.
#1 Best Overall
1. Confirm the supply valves are fully open
Check that the hot and cold supply faucets behind the washer are turned fully open and that water is actually reaching them. Samsung lists closed or obstructed supply as a common cause of a not-filling error, so this is the quickest check to make.
2. Inspect the supply hoses
Look along each hose for kinks or pinching, including where the hose bends behind the machine. On models with separate hot and cold inlets, confirm each hose is connected to the matching inlet. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance cautions against using Flood Safe hoses, so if your washer has one, check the manual and Samsung’s current guidance before continuing.

3. Clean the inlet mesh screens if needed
Samsung notes that the mesh screens at the hose connections can become clogged. Turn off the water supply, then disconnect the hoses and clean the screens gently with a toothbrush or a similar small brush. A special tool is not required. Cleaning the screens is a reasonable check, but it does not prove that a clogged screen caused the error; if the code returns, move on to the next step.
4. Check the door and the model manual
The legacy support article for the WF337AAR/XAA includes a tightly closed door among its checks, so confirm the door latches fully before starting a cycle again. Then open the manual for your exact model. Codes, menu steps and fill procedures vary by model and by purchase market. Samsung’s Australian support page states that its information applies to Australian products and that models, sequences, codes and settings vary by location.

5. Contact Samsung if the code remains
If the supply, hose and screen checks do not clear the error, contact Samsung support or an authorized Samsung service provider. Give them the exact model number, the code shown on the display, and a short note of the checks you have already made. A persistent NF code is a reason to request service, not a reason to start replacing parts yourself.
Quick Recap
Cautions before you start
- Shut off the water supply before disconnecting any hose.
- Do not use the NF code alone to decide that a valve, sensor or other component has failed. The code describes the symptom, not the failed part.
- Do not buy a replacement hose or inlet valve until you have confirmed the model and the fit. Hose fit depends on the washer and the installation.
- Do not follow instructions from a different model or a different region without checking them against your own manual.
Quick reference
- Confirm both supply faucets are fully open and water is reaching them.
- Check hoses for kinks and confirm hot and cold hoses match their inlets.
- With the water off, clean the inlet mesh screens with a small brush.
- Confirm the door is tightly closed and check the manual for your exact model.
- If NF returns, contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider.
