Samsung refrigerator water filters are usually inside the fridge, often near the upper-right interior wall or low down by the crisper drawers. The exact location and replacement cartridge depend on the refrigerator model and region, so use your model number or the code printed on the installed filter to confirm the fit.
Where is the water filter on a Samsung fridge?
Start by checking inside the refrigerator. Samsung Canada identifies two common locations: near the upper right and near the bottom, by the crisper drawers. Placement varies by model; if neither location matches your appliance, check its user manual rather than forcing open a panel or guessing. Samsung Canada’s replacement guide and Samsung UK’s filter guidance both direct owners to model-specific information.
How do you identify the right replacement filter?
- Find the refrigerator model code. Samsung Canada says that for French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer, and bottom-freezer models covered by its guidance, the label is on the inside right wall. Check your appliance label and manual to confirm the location for your model.
- Look up the model. Enter the model code in Samsung Canada’s water-filter finder, which provides a compatibility lookup. You can also read the model code printed on the cartridge already installed.
- Match the exact regional filter code. Do not rely on a similar-looking cartridge or a family name alone. Confirm the listed cartridge against your refrigerator model, manual, or the finder before buying.
The filter-family names differ across Samsung’s regional guidance, and none should be treated as a universal list:

What should you check before buying?
- Exact refrigerator compatibility: the model code or existing cartridge code should point to the replacement.
- Regional code and design: Samsung’s US, Canadian, and UK guidance names different filter families. A code listed in one region is not proof of compatibility in another.
- Genuine or manufacturer-approved status: Samsung recommends genuine filters in its US and Canadian guidance. The company warns that non-Samsung filters may fit poorly, leak, or damage the refrigerator or filter housing; this is Samsung’s warning, not an independent comparative test. How often should you replace the filter?
Samsung’s US and Canadian support guidance recommends replacing the water filter every six months. Treat that as the manufacturer’s general recommendation, not a guarantee that every household will have the same replacement schedule: Samsung Canada notes that usage and local water quality can affect timing. A noticeable slowdown in water flow is another reason it may be time to replace the filter, even if the reminder light has not come on.
