There isn’t one filter location or setup for every Samsung top-load washer. Depending on the model and market, your washer may have a removable lint catcher in the tub, a drain or debris filter, or no lint catcher at all. Find the washer’s full model code and check its manual before removing a part or buying a replacement.
Identify which filter you mean
“The filter” can refer to different components. A lint catcher collects lint from laundry; a drain or debris filter is part of the water-drainage system; and a water-inlet mesh filter screens the incoming water supply. These are not interchangeable, and their locations and cleaning steps differ.
- Lint filter or lint catcher: On models equipped with one, it is in the tub area. Samsung’s Australian guidance shows front or rear positions, while its Colombia guidance describes a catcher on a tub wall. There is no universal position.
- Drain or pump filter: Samsung’s US cleaning guidance says the pump filter covered in its instructions is for front-load washers, not top-load washers. Samsung’s Latin American guidance describes a drain-filter procedure for compatible top-load models, so check the exact manual rather than assuming either arrangement applies to yours.
- Water-inlet mesh filter: This is a separate screen in the water supply path, not the lint catcher or drain filter. Samsung Gulf identifies it separately and directs owners to their model manual for instructions.
Find the filter for your exact washer
- Locate the complete model code on the washer’s product label.
- Open the user manual for that exact model and the market where the washer was purchased. Look for the filter name and its cleaning or maintenance instructions.
- Use the manual to confirm the filter type, location, release method, and any compatible part number. Do not pry at panels or order a generic filter if you cannot find the part you expected.
Samsung says not every top-load washer has a lint filter. Its Colombia support page notes that some models, including examples in the WA3500 series, lack a lint catcher and instead have a residue filter. Regional instructions and parts may not apply to models sold elsewhere.
Clean a removable lint-filter case
Use these steps only if your manual confirms that your washer has the corresponding removable case. Samsung Australia’s procedure is specific to Australian products; follow your own model’s instructions if its design differs.

- Press down on the upper part of the filter case and remove it from the washer.
- Unlock the cover and take out the filter.
- Rinse the filter under running water and clean it with a brush.
- Close the filter and let the case dry as instructed.
- Reinsert the case until it clicks into place.
Clean a compatible top-load drain filter
Samsung Latin America provides a drain-filter procedure for compatible models. It is not a universal top-loader procedure; use it only when your model’s manual identifies this filter and matches the design.
- Place a towel or container beneath the filter because residual water may remain.
- Turn the knob to the left to remove the filter.
- Clean it under running water with a soft brush.
- Reinstall it by turning to the right until it locks.
Check compatibility before buying a replacement
Samsung Colombia lists DC97-00252J, DC97-16513C, DC97-12773C, and DC97-24267A as lint-filter parts on its regional support page. These are examples, not universal replacements; confirm the exact washer model and local compatibility before purchasing. A soft-bristle brush can be used where the matching cleaning instructions call for a brush, but Samsung does not require a particular brand.
