There is no shared industry rating scale behind the rankings, so averaging them would create a misleading winner.

Which memory foam mattress is best for side sleepers?
Start with your body weight, preferred firmness, and whether the mattress lets your shoulders and hips settle without leaving your torso unsupported. A mattress that feels supportive to one person may feel too firm or too soft to another. Sleep Foundation notes that lighter side sleepers may find some firm models too firm; its GravityLux selection is not a guarantee of fit for every side sleeper.
Pressure relief and support are related but not identical. Contouring can reduce pressure at contact points, while excessive sink or inadequate support may make alignment or changing position harder. NCOA’s guide cautions that deep sink can complicate movement for people with mobility challenges. How firm should a memory foam mattress be?
There is no universally right firmness. Use your sleep position, body weight, and comfort preference as the starting point, then consider whether the mattress supports a comfortable, aligned posture without feeling restrictive. Firmness labels and ratings can vary between brands and reviewers. Sleep Foundation says: “We reference firmness ratings from mattress companies, but designate our own ratings given performance criteria.” That statement appears on its Test Lab methodology page; it helps explain why ratings may differ.
Does memory foam sleep hot?
Memory foam can retain heat, but a cover or airflow-oriented construction does not guarantee that every sleeper will stay cool. Treat a reviewer’s observed temperature performance as a result under that publisher’s testing, not a promise about your bedroom or body. The current source set does not establish a universal cooling winner among these four picks.

Which mattress is best for couples?
Compare motion isolation and edge support as separate features. Motion isolation concerns how much movement from one sleeper reaches the other; edge support concerns how stable the perimeter feels when sitting or sleeping near it. A strong result in one does not establish a strong result in the other. For example, RTINGS reports strong motion dissipation for the TEMPUR-Adapt, while the available evidence does not establish that this makes it the best choice for every couple.
Is a slow-moving foam feel right for you?
Close contouring can feel enveloping, but slower-responding foam may make it harder to change positions. RTINGS’ TEMPUR-Adapt scores make that trade-off concrete: its motion-dissipation score is 9.4, while its responsiveness score is 3.4. These are RTINGS’ category scores, not a universal scale or a guarantee of how the mattress will feel to an individual.

What should you check before buying?
Value depends on more than a guide’s rating. The exact size and model, delivery, sleep-trial rules, return conditions, warranty, and current price can change the decision. These commercial terms are not established here as live offers, so confirm them with the seller before purchase. NCOA also reports that more than half of respondents in its March 2025 survey of sleepers with chronic pain had recently purchased a memory foam mattress; that statistic describes only the surveyed group, not mattress shoppers generally.
