Woosh Air appears to still be operating, but the Shark Tank deal it accepted did not close. The company has moved beyond its original pre-order smart-filter concept and now sells reusable HVAC filter frames, replacement media, smart-monitoring components, and air-quality products through its own storefront.
Kevin O’Leary offered Woosh founder Winston Mok $500,000 for 10% of the company plus a $0.50 royalty on every unit sold in perpetuity. Mok accepted the offer on camera, but later Shark Tank coverage reported that the agreement fell apart during post-show due diligence. That means the televised handshake should not be treated as proof that O’Leary became an investor or owner.

What did Woosh pitch on Shark Tank?
Woosh was presented as an air-filtration company created in response to California wildfire smoke. Founder Winston Mok’s concept was to use a home’s existing central HVAC system as a whole-home air-cleaning platform instead of relying only on a portable purifier in one room.
The original system combined several elements:
- A reusable HVAC filter frame
- Replaceable filter media
- Sensors intended to monitor air quality, airflow, and filter use

Before appearing on television, Woosh had used Kickstarter to raise $62,817 from 336 backers, according to earlier reporting. The product had not shipped to all backers by the time the Shark Tank episode aired. That pre-order history is important because Woosh was still an early-stage company during the pitch, not an established HVAC manufacturer with a long operating record.

Woosh lists a refillable MERV 8 filter kit and separate Fold MERV 13 replacement media. MERV is a rating system used to describe how effectively a filter captures certain airborne particles under standardized testing conditions. A higher rating is not automatically better for every HVAC system: denser filtration can increase airflow resistance, so compatibility with the blower, ductwork, and equipment matters.
For construction or renovation projects, this is especially relevant. A filter upgrade should be considered alongside the HVAC design, return-air capacity, equipment specifications, and commissioning process—not as an isolated accessory decision.
Smart Module Upgrade
Woosh also lists a Smart Module Upgrade for Gen 1 filters. The company says the module uses pressure sensing to help determine when a filter needs changing. This approach is intended to base notifications on system conditions rather than relying only on a fixed calendar reminder.
That does not mean every homeowner will receive the same replacement interval. Filter life can vary with occupancy, pets, wildfire smoke, construction dust, HVAC runtime, and the type of filter media installed.

Air Quality Monitor
The company’s current catalog also includes an Air Quality Monitor. Woosh says the monitor can integrate with a smart thermostat and support monitoring of indoor conditions.
These monitoring and purification capabilities are company claims. The research available for this article does not provide independent testing that establishes a specific whole-home particle-removal rate, energy saving, or health outcome. A monitor can provide useful information, but it does not replace proper ventilation, source control, equipment maintenance, or professional testing where those are needed.

How is the current Woosh product different from the Shark Tank version?

Woosh’s company-history materials say it announced a partnership with 3M in June 2023. Related company content describes 3M as a filtration-industry partner and discusses the use of 3M filtration technology in Woosh products.

- Measure the filter opening. Confirm both the nominal size and the available physical depth. Do not assume a listed 16 × 25 × 1 filter will fit every opening labeled that way.
- Check HVAC compatibility. Verify the equipment manufacturer’s permitted filter type and pressure-drop requirements. When uncertain, ask an HVAC professional to assess airflow and static pressure.
- Consider the MERV rating carefully. MERV 13 media can provide higher filtration than MERV 8 media in relevant test conditions, but the HVAC system must be able to move air through it properly.
- Inspect the filter slot and return duct. Gaps, damaged rails, warped doors, or unsealed return-air paths can allow air to bypass the filter regardless of the filter’s nominal rating.
- Plan for installation and maintenance. A reusable frame still needs regular cleaning or media replacement according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Smart notifications do not eliminate visual inspection.
- Separate filtration from ventilation. A filter removes some particles from recirculated air; it does not solve every indoor-air-quality issue, such as high carbon dioxide, moisture, combustion pollutants, or a pollution source inside the building.
If a house is undergoing construction or renovation, protect the HVAC system from drywall dust, sawdust, and other debris with a suitable temporary strategy. Do not use a filter with excessive resistance simply because its rating is higher, and do not run the system in dusty conditions without considering equipment protection and post-work cleaning.
How does Woosh compare with ordinary reusable HVAC filters?
