The Waterdrop X16 is an electric, indoor-only, tankless under-sink reverse osmosis system with a manufacturer-advertised capacity of 1,600 gallons per day. Its high stated capacity, smart faucet and compact, tank-free design may appeal to households that want filtered water on demand. But the headline capacity is not a guaranteed tap flow rate, and the system’s contaminant claims, installation fit and recurring filter costs deserve closer scrutiny before you buy.
What the Waterdrop X16 is—and what its headline specs mean
Waterdrop’s US product page lists the X16 as an 11-stage reverse osmosis system rated at 1,600 GPD, with a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio and alkaline mineralization. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified household results. GPD is an advertised production-capacity figure; it should not be read as a promise that a kitchen faucet will deliver water at that rate. Waterdrop also advertises filling a 6-ounce cup in two seconds and filtration down to 0.0001 μm, but the available evidence does not establish those as independently measured results in a typical home. The X16 needs electricity and is intended for indoor use. Its listed dimensions are 18.2 × 6.25 × 16.72 inches, and its listed weight is 39.14 pounds. Since under-sink cabinetry varies, check the clearances and connections for the exact model revision in the product manual before planning the installation.

Waterdrop lists NSF/ANSI 42, 58 and 372 for the X16 and names substances including total dissolved solids (TDS), PFOA/PFOS, chlorine, fluoride, barium, arsenic, salt, sediment, chromium-VI, lead and microplastics in its reduction claims. A list of substances on a product page is not, by itself, proof that each one is included in the scope of third-party certification. Before relying on the X16 for a particular contaminant, check the current certifier record and the model’s performance data sheet for the precise model and reduction claim. A 2026 independent review lead also raised a distinction between certification-record claims and broader manufacturer lab-tested claims, but that is not a substitute for the certifier’s record. If you have a specific water-quality concern, match the system’s documented reduction claims to a current water test or your water supplier’s report. Do not assume that a general “purified” or “11-stage” description establishes performance for every contaminant.
Will it fit and connect under your sink?
The listed package contents include the system and filters, smart faucet, power adapter, feed-water adapter and inlet tubing, drain saddle, reference sticker, Teflon tape and lock clips. That is a substantial set of installation parts, but it does not establish that every kitchen has the right space, compatible plumbing or accessible drain and power connections.

- Measure the cabinet space and account for the listed unit dimensions, filter access and room to work.
- Confirm there is a suitable electrical outlet or other permitted power arrangement; the unit requires electricity.
- Check that your existing feed-water line and drain can accept the included connections. The manual for your exact revision is the best source for connection details.
- Plan for the smart faucet opening and countertop or sink material before installation.
The system is tankless, but tankless does not mean connection-free or universally easy to retrofit. The installation effort will depend on the cabinet, plumbing layout, drain access and faucet opening at your home. Specific steps and warranty exclusions are not established by the available material, so review the current manual and warranty terms before purchase rather than assuming a particular DIY installation or coverage outcome.

Waterdrop’s product page displayed a system price of $1,599 against a $1,999 reference price when accessed in 2026. It also displayed these replacement-filter prices and maximum intervals; prices and promotions can change. The gallon and month limits are manufacturer listings, not a guarantee that a cartridge will last that long in every household.

| Cartridge | Displayed price (2026) | Listed replacement interval |
|---|---|---|
| F1A | $32.99 | Up to 12 months or 1,100 gallons |
| F2 | $30.99 | Up to 6 months or 550 gallons |
| X16-F3 | $179.99 | Up to 24 months or 2,200 gallons |
F2 has the shortest listed interval, while X16-F3 has the highest listed individual replacement price. The appropriate replacement schedule depends on use and the product instructions. Waterdrop’s comparison table lists average annual filter costs of $182.97 for the X16 and $172.97 for both the X12 and X12-PRO. Those are manufacturer-listed comparison figures; do not treat them as a personalized ownership-cost estimate without checking current cartridge prices and your replacement schedule. How does it compare with the X12 and X12-PRO?
Waterdrop’s own comparison lists the X16 at 1,600 GPD and the X12 and X12-PRO at 1,200 GPD each. The same comparison shows all three with a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio and alkaline mineralization. It lists the X16’s average annual filter cost as $182.97 versus $172.97 for either other model. These are seller-published comparison figures, not an independent ranking of real-world output, fit or value.

When comparing reverse osmosis systems, consider cabinet and plumbing fit, documented contaminant-reduction scope, output under comparable feed-water conditions, drain-water ratio, faucet features, replacement-filter availability and cost, warranty, and installation complexity. A higher GPD headline alone does not establish which system is the better choice for a given kitchen.

Who should consider the Waterdrop X16?
The X16 is a plausible fit if you want a tankless under-sink RO system, have the cabinet space and electrical and plumbing access it requires, and are comfortable checking certification scope and paying for model-specific cartridges. Its advertised capacity and smart faucet may be appealing, but the evidence available here does not establish independent results for household flow, noise, installation effort or long-term reliability.
