VSB says construction has begun on the Liethe-Lehmden wind farm repowering project in Rastede, Lower Saxony. The work will replace four older turbines with three larger machines rated at 18 MW in total. VSB plans to commission the new wind farm in late summer 2027; that is a scheduled milestone, not confirmation that it has been completed.
What VSB is building
Liethe-Lehmden is in the municipality of Rastede, Lower Saxony. VSB describes it as its first wind farm in the state. The project is a repowering: existing wind turbines will be removed and replaced with newer, higher-capacity units at the site.

The 18 MW figure is installed capacity, not annual energy. VSB’s household equivalence and comparison with the existing site do not establish a specific annual output in MWh or GWh.
What construction work is underway
VSB’s 8 October 2026 announcement says the construction site is being set up, with access roads and crane hardstands under preparation. These are enabling works: they prepare the site for construction activity and for the equipment needed to erect the turbines.

Preparing waterlogged ground
At one turbine position, the ground is waterlogged and contains peat. VSB says measures are required to dry and strengthen the ground so it can support construction. The announcement does not specify the engineering method, quantities of material, or duration of that work, so those details should not be assumed.

VSB Managing Director in Germany Thomas Winkler said the start of construction was bringing the company’s plans onto the site and described the project as an upgrade to a location with a long history of wind power generation. His statement reflects the developer’s view of the project.
