UW–Platteville says enrollment in its standalone construction management bachelor’s program has more than doubled since it began in 2020. Its September 2026 news article reports 400 students in fall 2026, up from 60 in fall 2020—but a separate university summary gives different counts for those same years. The discrepancy makes the direction of growth clear, but the exact rate uncertain.

How much has enrollment grown?

UW–Platteville’s September 2026 news article reports that the standalone program grew from 60 students in its first semester, fall 2020, to 400 in fall 2026. The university describes that as a 566% increase. The same article says enrollment had reached 280 heading into fall 2024, exceeding the program’s five-year goal of 120.

A separate summary on the university’s news index gives a different count series: 192 students in fall 2020 and 391 in fall 2026, which it describes as nearly 104% growth. Neither page explains the difference. The figures may reflect different definitions or program scopes, but the university has not established that in the published material. Both series show more than a doubling; readers who need a precise rate should treat the counts as source-specific rather than as one reconciled total.

Construction management existed at UW–Platteville before 2020 as an emphasis within industrial technology management. The university says it received approval to establish a standalone bachelor’s degree in 2020, so the earlier emphasis and the later degree should not automatically be treated as identical enrollment categories.

Why does UW–Platteville say the program is growing?

The university attributes the increase to hands-on learning, demand for construction workers, and a record incoming group. Program coordinator Gretchen Bockenhauer said 140 first-year and transfer students joined in 2026, the program’s largest incoming class to that point. A university news-index summary also points to alumni support, word of mouth, and strong finishes in national construction competitions. These are the university’s explanations; the published figures do not isolate the effect of any one factor.

Applied coursework and facilities

The university describes its Construction, Road and Infrastructure, and Safety laboratories as part of the program’s hands-on approach. Its degree page says students study project planning, budgeting, scheduling, safety, and leadership through experiential learning. The catalog lists a Construction Management B.S. and an internship course. Construction management major Kira Goldbach described the practical emphasis in the university’s 2026 article: “It’s not like a lecture where you just sit and take notes. You’re really getting into it. We do everything.”

Employer interest and industry connection

UW–Platteville’s 2025 account of its Fall Construction Networking Event reported more than 65 companies, 190 company representatives, 117 alumni, and more than 300 students in attendance. The university’s 2026 article says more than 100 companies recruit from the program. Those figures describe different measures—event attendance and reported recruiting reach—not the number of students hired.

What do the career outcomes show?

The university’s Applied Engineering Technology Management department reports a 98% placement rate for Construction Management in its 2022–2024 First Destination Placement Survey: 184 of 188 respondents available for placement were placed. The page also reports an 85% knowledge rate, a measure of how much graduate outcome information was known. These survey figures have a defined period and respondent base.

Separately, Bockenhauer told the university in 2026 that every student in the program’s last two graduating classes found a job. The article does not state the class sizes or survey method behind that claim, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with the department’s placement survey.

Published salary figures also differ slightly. The program page displays an average starting salary of $66,463, while the 2026 news article reports about $66,466. The sources do not reconcile their periods or methods, so neither figure should be presented as a definitive current salary expectation.

What prospective students should take from the growth

  • The program’s enrollment has clearly increased, but UW–Platteville’s two published count series differ substantially in their fall 2020 baseline and fall 2026 total.
  • The university describes an applied degree with dedicated labs and an internship course; prospective students can use the official program and catalog pages to review the curriculum and requirements.
  • Employer engagement and positive placement outcomes are reported by the university, but event participation, recruiting reach, survey placement, and the claim about two graduating classes are distinct measures.
