First identify the model from its product label and use that model’s manual: Twin Star controls and reset procedures differ between models. Do not open an energized fireplace or apply a procedure from another model.
No power or the logs do not glow
Check that the fireplace is plugged into a standard 120 V outlet, then press its power button or switch. These are first checks in a reviewed Twin-Star brand manual; the control layout may differ on your model. If the unit still has no power, consult its exact manual or contact Twin-Star customer service rather than opening the appliance while it is plugged in.
The logs glow, but there is no flame effect
Press the flame control to check whether the flame effect has been switched off. Some models use different controls or mechanisms, so confirm the instructions in your model’s manual before trying other adjustments.
The heater does not blow warm air
Check the thermostat setting
If the thermostat is set at or below the current room temperature, the heater may not turn on. Raise the setting above room temperature and check whether warm air begins to blow.

Use a reset only if your model’s manual calls for it
A Twin-Star manual for models 23EF022, 26EF022, 28EF022, and 33EF022 describes unplugging the fireplace for five minutes as a reset after checking the controls and thermostat setting. This is model-specific guidance, not a universal reset procedure. Follow the manual for your fireplace.
The display shows E3
In the reviewed Twin-Star brand manual, E3 indicates that manual-reset overheat protection has been triggered. Check that the heater’s air inlets and outlets are not blocked, unplug the fireplace, and let it cool for the period specified in your model’s manual. After reconnecting it, monitor the unit. If E3 persists or returns, stop using the heater and contact customer service; do not repeatedly reset a fireplace that overheats.

The display shows E1 or E2
The reviewed brand manual associates both codes with a thermostat sensor fault:
- E1: The manual describes the sensor as broken or disconnected. It directs users to unplug the fireplace and check the sensor connection at the main circuit board; if the issue remains, contact customer service about sensor replacement.
- E2: The manual describes a broken thermostat sensor and directs users to contact customer service.
Internal access and service procedures vary by model. Disconnect power before any maintenance that your manual permits, and leave electrical repair to Twin-Star customer service or a qualified technician.

The flame works, but the heater does not; the emberbed flashes when heat is pressed
For the model family covered by the reviewed brand manual, this can mean the heater has been disabled. With the fireplace on, hold the control-panel POWER button for 10 seconds. The manual says the emberbed lights flash multiple times when the heater is re-enabled. Check that this procedure applies to your exact model before trying it.
The remote control does not work
- Replace the batteries, checking the required size in the remote or the fireplace manual; the reviewed manual does not specify a universal battery format.
- Press the buttons with a slow, even motion.
- Aim the remote at the fireplace’s control panel.
- Use it from within 20 feet of the front of the appliance, the operating distance specified by the reviewed Twin-Star manual.
When to stop troubleshooting
Disconnect power before cleaning or maintenance. If the fireplace has been under water, the reviewed Twin-Star manual calls for inspection by a qualified service technician and replacement of affected electrical-system parts. Stop using the unit and contact Twin-Star customer service or a qualified technician for recurring overheating, sensor faults that remain after the manual’s permitted checks, damaged wiring, or any repair requiring work on internal electrical components. Use parts only after compatibility with your exact model has been confirmed.

Find the model information on the fireplace’s product label, then consult the matching manual for its controls, error-code meanings, cooling period, and any reset instructions. The reviewed material includes a Twin-Star International brand troubleshooting manual hosted through The Home Depot catalog PDF service and a separate Twin-Star manual hosted by QVC for models 23EF022, 26EF022, 28EF022, and 33EF022. These manuals do not establish that procedures, parts, or component fit are universal across Twin Star fireplaces.
