The closest confirmed match for the Tunis event described as putting building decarbonisation in focus is Tunisia’s 18th Journées de l’éco-construction et de l’innovation, also presented as the Salon de l’Écoconstruction & de l’Innovation. It was announced for 21–22 April 2026 at CICT–UTICA in Tunis. Available event descriptions point to a Tunisia-focused gathering, not a confirmed Africa-wide event.

What was the Tunis eco-construction event?

The 18th Journées de l’éco-construction et de l’innovation was announced as an exhibition and professional meeting on the ecological transition of buildings. The organizer called it the Salon de l’Écoconstruction & de l’Innovation and described an informative, participatory exhibition alongside one-to-one partnership meetings for professionals and experts. Its program was intended to present new local ecological products for construction. The organizer’s event page gives that description.

TAP described the event’s purpose as « accélérer la transition verte du bâtiment »—accelerating the green transition of buildings. Its report, published 17 April 2026, said the event would bring professionals and decision-makers together around the ecological transition of the building sector.

Dates, venue and stated theme

  • Dates: 21–22 April 2026.
  • Venue: Centre International de Congrès de Tunis (CICT–UTICA), Tunis.
  • Theme: “Accélérer la transition écologique du secteur du bâtiment : impératifs économiques, réglementaires et climatiques” (accelerating the ecological transition of the building sector: economic, regulatory and climate imperatives).
  • Patronage: Archibat’s announcement said the event was held under the patronage of Tunisia’s Ministry of Equipment and Housing.

These are the announced details; the available materials do not establish a continent-wide remit or confirm how the event ultimately unfolded. Archibat’s announcement also reported the dates, venue, theme and patronage.

Was it an Africa-wide building-sector event?

The available announcements describe a Tunisian eco-construction and innovation event. They do not substantiate that it represented Africa’s building sector as a whole. The wording that decarbonising Africa’s building sector took centre stage should therefore be read as broader framing, not as a confirmed description of the April salon’s geographic scope.

The event sources also provide no reliable Africa-wide statistic on building emissions, energy use, construction growth or investment. They establish that ecological transition was a central topic in Tunis, but do not quantify the scale of the challenge across the continent.

What does decarbonising construction mean in this context?

Decarbonising buildings means reducing emissions associated with their construction and use. The April salon’s announced theme connects that transition to economic, regulatory and climate considerations, while its organizer highlights local ecological products. The event description does not name specific materials, technologies, emissions targets or building-performance standards, so those should not be treated as confirmed program details.

For construction professionals, the practical questions raised by this framing include whether lower-impact local materials can meet project requirements, how regulations affect design and procurement, and how climate considerations fit with cost and delivery constraints. Those are relevant decision points, not documented outcomes or commitments from the salon.

How does the April salon differ from the May Carthage forum?

A separate Tunisian event announced for May 2026 may be the source of some of the low-carbon framing, but it should not be conflated with the April salon. The Carthage Green Building Forum was scheduled for 20–23 May at the Kram exhibition grounds alongside the Carthage Building and Construction Fair. Its announcements described a Tunisia-focused low-carbon building agenda, with planned practical workshops, roundtables, material analysis and professional experience-sharing.

Carthage Green Building Forum 20–23 May 2026, Kram exhibition grounds, alongside the Carthage Building and Construction Fair Tunisia-focused low-carbon building; planned workshops and roundtables, material analysis and industry experience-sharing.

The dates and descriptions in this table were announced in 2026 and have passed as of 13 October 2026; the cited announcements establish plans, not a verified account of what took place. Archibat’s forum announcement and the Tunisia Green Building Council announcement describe the May event.

What earlier editions suggest—and what they do not prove

Tunisia’s CDC archive records the 16th Journées de l’écoconstruction on 28–29 February 2024 at UTICA Tunis. That edition used the theme “Transition écologique : opportunités pour le secteur du BTP, opportunités pour la Tunisie” and included conferences, roundtables, business meetings, startup presentations and exhibitors. It shows that the series had previously combined discussion and professional exchange, but it does not establish the full program of the 2026 edition.
