MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions’ closest official match for the headline “MacDonald-Miller Expands Construction Leadership Team To Further Strengthen Project Execution” is a December 10, 2024 announcement of a new CEO and leadership appointments. Ruben Cañas was named President of Construction, while Reagan Perry was promoted to Chief Operating Officer with oversight of construction operations. The company described organizational responsibilities and intended alignment, but did not report evidence that the changes improved project execution.

What MacDonald-Miller announced

In its December 10, 2024 announcement, MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions said Rory Olson would become CEO effective January 2025, succeeding Gus Simonds. Simonds planned to retire at the end of 2025 and move into the Executive Chair role.

The release named appointments across the company, not a single construction-only team. The construction-related roles and responsibilities it identified were:

  • Ruben Cañas, President of Construction: to oversee construction services and unify sales and preconstruction.
  • Reagan Perry, Chief Operating Officer: to align operations and engineering and oversee all construction operations.
  • Bret Lovely, Vice President of Construction.
  • Shawn Havely, Vice President of Project Management.

The announcement also described leadership changes in other functions and regions, including Oregon and Inland Northwest general management, service operations, engineering, business integration, building controls, and service special projects.

Who leads construction at MacDonald-Miller now?

MacDonald-Miller’s leadership page currently lists Cañas as President of Construction, Lovely as Vice President of Construction, and Havely as Vice President of Project Management. It lists Olson as CEO. These are current listed titles; the December 2024 release remains the source for the appointments and responsibilities as originally announced.

Perry’s COO appointment and construction-operations responsibilities are documented in the 2024 announcement. The current leadership page should be consulted for the company’s latest role listings, as titles and leadership assignments can change.

How the roles relate to project execution

The announcement describes a division of responsibilities: Perry’s COO role connects operations and engineering while covering construction operations; Cañas’s role brings construction services together with sales and preconstruction; and Lovely and Havely hold construction and project-management vice-presidencies. That structure indicates the areas the company intended to organize under these leaders.

MacDonald-Miller did not publish project-delivery metrics, before-and-after comparisons, or specific project examples tied to the appointments. “Further strengthen project execution” should therefore be understood as the headline’s stated aim, not a verified result of the leadership changes.

Company context behind the construction leadership structure

In a November 24, 2021 company post, then-CEO Gus Simonds described creating divisional president roles for construction and building services. He said the structure aligned the business with different customer types, including owner-direct and GC/developer work. That earlier explanation gives context for the divisional structure; it is not presented as the stated reason for the 2024 appointments.

Olson had worked at MacDonald-Miller for 19 years in project management, operations, construction, and building-services leadership roles, and had served as President of Building Services since 2021, according to the December 2024 announcement. Simonds described the CEO selection as the result of an internal search, saying the board valued Olson’s approach to leadership, focus on innovation and operational excellence, and vision for the company and industry. Olson said he saw the business as well positioned to lead customers and the industry toward smart, connected, and climate-friendly buildings. Both statements came from the company announcement and are the speakers’ own views, not independent assessments.
