Start with safe, model-specific checks

- Look for a visible obstruction. Check the gate’s travel path and the photocell beam for anything blocking movement. Do not reach into moving hardware.
- Check the power source and remote. Look for an obvious power-source or battery connection issue, then check whether the remote’s indicator lights, replace its battery if needed, and try it closer to the opener.
- Check gate movement only using the documented manual release. Keep people clear and follow the exact manual before disengaging an opener. Once safely released, note whether the gate moves freely; do not force it.

The opener does not run or respond

That is the manufacturer’s stated figure, not a guarantee for a particular installation; interference, antenna placement, and site conditions can affect range. TOPENS’ FAQ also suggests fully extending the control-board antenna. Use that advice only where the model has an antenna arranged this way.
The motor runs, but the sliding gate does not move
TOPENS identifies clutch engagement as one thing to check. Follow the exact manual’s release procedure to disengage the clutch, then push and pull the gate gently to see whether it rolls smoothly. Keep clear of the opener and gate hardware during this check.

If the gate binds, inspect its movement path, track, and opener installation for an obvious problem. A motor that runs while the gate remains still does not, by itself, establish that the motor or control board has failed. TOPENS’ FAQ provides sliding-gate troubleshooting guidance.
The gate opens but will not close
A blocked photocell beam, wired accessory, or limit-switch issue can prevent closing. Check that the photocell path is clear and inspect the sensors for visible misalignment or damage. TOPENS’ FAQ names photocells, wired accessories, and the limit switch among the checks for this symptom.
TOPENS also advises checking wired accessories, especially the photocell, during diagnosis. Do not disconnect a safety accessory as a workaround or leave it bypassed. If the manual calls for an accessory-isolation test, follow its exact procedure and restore the safety device before returning the gate to service.

Photocell wiring and control-board inputs are not universal: TOPENS documents different normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) arrangements for some sliding models. Consult the exact opener manual and the official photocell troubleshooting guide before checking terminals or settings.
The gate keeps moving when the photocell beam is blocked
Treat this as a safety fault: the photocell is meant to detect an obstruction, and the gate is not responding as expected. Do not keep operating the gate normally or bypass the sensor to restore movement.
TOPENS’ photocell guide recommends checking the sensor’s power and working light, whether its relay responds when the beam is interrupted, the sensor-to-board wiring, and whether the photocell function is enabled. The terminal arrangement and setting depend on the opener model.

The guide discusses a temporary jumper test for some input arrangements. Because that test is model-specific and involves gate movement, it is not a universal DIY step. Use the matching manual or contact qualified service. If the sensor responds and wiring and settings are correct but the gate still ignores the beam, TOPENS notes that the control board may be defective.
A solar sliding opener beeps or stops during travel
For the solar sliding-opener situation covered in its FAQ, TOPENS recommends checking whether the HALL sensor board is loose or damaged, inspecting magnet installation, and checking battery output while the opener is running. The FAQ says it should remain above DC 22V in that described scenario; this is not a general threshold for every TOPENS opener or battery setup.
The FAQ also mentions stall-force and soft-stop settings. Check the matching manual before changing either, and do not assume a setting or battery requirement applies to another model. TOPENS’ AT1202 product and installation information applies to that model only.

A swing gate stops or reverses in windy conditions
Strong wind can increase resistance, particularly on a solid gate, and TOPENS says this may cause a stop or reversal that resembles an obstruction. Before considering settings, check that the gate moves freely under the manual’s release procedure and inspect hinges and installation for binding or visible problems.
Do not raise force settings as a blanket fix: force adjustment is model-specific and can affect safety. Consult the exact manual or qualified service if the gate still stops or reverses.

One arm of a dual swing opener fails
TOPENS’ FAQ describes exchanging arm wiring at the control board to determine whether a fault follows an arm or remains with the board, along with additional motor and limit-switch checks. This is an advanced electrical diagnosis, not a beginner check. Do not attempt it without the exact manual and appropriate technical skill; contacting TOPENS support or a qualified technician is the safer route.

The gate opens or closes by itself
Unexpected operation can create an immediate hazard. Keep people clear and do not leave the gate in service if you cannot control it reliably. Use the model manual to check whether the installation is configured for pull-to-open or push-to-open, and review any connected accessories.
TOPENS’ FAQ suggests temporarily removing accessories for diagnosis and erasing and reprogramming remotes; it also lists control-board failure as a possible cause. These checks depend on the model and connected equipment. Follow the manual, restore required accessories, and seek service if unexplained movement continues.
