The Ring Battery Doorbell promotion in the headline was a May 29, 2025 Amazon deal: $54.99, down from $99.99, or 45% off. That price is historical, not a verified offer today. Ring’s current comparable entry-level model, the Battery Doorbell, 2nd Gen, was listed at $69.99 on Ring’s product comparison page as of August 18, 2026. One important cost to factor in: live viewing and real-time alerts work without a plan, but saved recordings and package alerts require Ring Protect.

What the 45%-off deal included

The original deal report, published May 29, 2025, said Amazon was selling a Ring Battery Doorbell for $54.99 instead of $99.99. It described $54.99 as an all-time low at the time. The report does not establish the exact generation, color, seller, or bundle, so it is not possible to confirm that the deal item was the same product as Ring’s current entry-level model. The promotion is not verified as available now. Read the original deal report.

That distinction matters when comparing prices: Ring’s current U.S. lineup includes several battery doorbells, and a listing’s generation, included accessories, seller, and return policy can affect its value. Check those details before treating a low price as equivalent to the old offer.

What the current entry-level model offers

Ring’s current comparable product is the Battery Doorbell, 2nd Gen. Ring’s product comparison page showed it at $69.99 as of August 18, 2026; prices may change. It is a newer model, not a confirmed match for the 2025 deal item. See Ring’s current model comparison.

Ring also says it can be connected to existing doorbell wiring for trickle charging or used with compatible solar accessories. See the Battery Doorbell, 2nd Gen specifications.

How much protection does a doorbell camera provide?

A video doorbell can make a visitor aware of the camera, let you speak through it, and provide alerts or recorded evidence. Those features may discourage an opportunistic thief, but they cannot guarantee a package will stay put. Someone could ignore the camera, cover it, take a parcel before you respond, or grab one from outside its view.

Head-to-toe coverage does not ensure every delivery is visible. A box placed beside the door, behind a column, or under a bench may be missed. Package detection also depends on the camera’s view, lighting, placement, software, and subscription eligibility. Treat the doorbell as one layer of awareness—not a complete anti-theft system.

What works without Ring Protect—and what does not

Ring says a compatible doorbell can provide live video, real-time notifications, and the ability to answer an event as it happens without a Ring Protect plan. Without a subscription, however, videos and photos are not saved for later review. That means a live notification may help you respond, but you may not be able to retrieve a recording after a theft. Ring explains subscription-free doorbell features.

Installation, power, and placement

Plan for charging

The current model is designed to run on its built-in rechargeable battery and does not require existing doorbell wiring. Ring says wiring can provide trickle charging, while compatible solar accessories may help extend battery life. Neither option should be treated as a guarantee that you will never need to recharge. Battery use varies with motion volume, live-view activity, Wi-Fi quality, temperature, and settings; a busy entrance may need more frequent charging. A spare battery or solar accessory can reduce downtime but adds cost.

Aim at the actual delivery area

Mount the camera so it captures faces and the spot where parcels are usually left. Check the full view for obstructions such as a porch roof, railing, planter, wall, or delivery box. Avoid aiming directly into bright sunlight, and consider an appropriate wedge or corner mount if a recessed doorway or angled wall points the camera away from the walkway. A wide field of view cannot compensate for a package placed outside the frame.

Test connectivity and alerts

The Battery Doorbell, 2nd Gen uses 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi. A weak signal at the entrance can undermine live view and notifications. After installation, test live view and phone alerts from the locations where you expect to receive them. Delays or missed alerts can also result from router outages, phone notification restrictions, app background settings, a low battery, or account or cloud-service problems.

Privacy, smart-home use, and theft protection

Ring doorbells are built around an account and cloud service for saved event history. Use privacy zones to mask areas you do not need to monitor, and avoid recording neighbors’ windows, private yards, or unnecessary areas of public space. Review account security, shared-user permissions, and notification settings. Ring identifies Alexa compatibility for its doorbell line; available functions may require setup and should not be assumed to include every Alexa feature. See Ring’s Battery Doorbell support information.

Ring’s support materials list lifetime theft protection among Battery Doorbell line features, but that should not be read as an unconditional replacement guarantee. Check the current terms and eligibility requirements for the specific model and region before relying on coverage; claims may involve conditions such as a police report, proof of purchase, or an account. The doorbell also cannot protect a package once it is out of view.

Should you buy the current model or upgrade?

Choose the Battery Doorbell, 2nd Gen if

  • You want a battery-powered doorbell without requiring existing wiring.
  • Live view and two-way talk are your main needs, and you accept battery upkeep.
  • You are comfortable paying for Ring Protect if you want package alerts and saved video history.
  • You already use Ring or Alexa and want the convenience of that ecosystem.

Consider another setup if

  • You want recordings without a recurring cloud plan or prefer local storage.
  • Your entrance has weak Wi-Fi or frequent activity that could mean more charging.
  • You need package monitoring but do not want subscription-dependent alerts.
  • Your porch layout cannot provide a clear view of the usual drop-off area.

Ring’s comparison page showed the Battery Doorbell Plus, 2nd Gen at $119.99 and the Battery Doorbell Pro, 2nd Gen at $249.99 on August 18, 2026. The Pro is the higher tier, with 4K-class video, 3D motion detection, enhanced zoom, and dual-band Wi-Fi listed among its capabilities. These models cost substantially more; compare their current specifications and prices before choosing. If charging is the main concern and your home has compatible wiring, a wired Ring model may be a better fit. Compare Ring battery doorbell models or view Ring’s doorbell lineup.
