CES 2025’s most important smart-home developments were not a single breakthrough gadget. The show’s strongest ideas were AI that responds to context, robot cleaners that handle more of the work, and Matter-based interoperability between products from different manufacturers.

But CES mixes shipping products with prototypes and demonstrations. The recommendations below separate practical products from technology worth watching, with particular attention to usefulness, compatibility, privacy, maintenance, and evidence of real-world performance.

What CES 2025 actually established

CES 2025 ran from January 7 to 10, 2025, in Las Vegas. CES reported more than 4,500 exhibitors and more than 141,000 attendees, with smart-home products appearing within the wider smart-living category covering home security, energy management, digital health, lifestyle, and food technology. The best products at the show were therefore judged on more than novelty. A useful CES product should solve a recurring household problem, have a credible path to purchase and support, work with the buyer’s preferred platform, and avoid creating more maintenance or privacy problems than it solves.

These are editorial picks, not the result of comparative laboratory testing. A CES demonstration, manufacturer specification, or Innovation Award does not establish long-term reliability, cleaning performance, battery life, or customer support. CES says its Innovation Awards are judged on innovation, functionality, aesthetics, and design—important criteria, but not a substitute for ownership experience. CES Innovation Awards criteria

Best smart-home platform: Samsung SmartThings Home AI

Samsung’s strongest CES 2025 showing was not one appliance. It was the company’s attempt to make SmartThings the coordinating layer for a home containing appliances, energy systems, sensors, security devices, and household routines.

Samsung described a “Home AI” strategy using ambient sensing, voice recognition, and AI to personalize responses. Demonstrated applications included monitoring loved ones, managing energy, controlling connected appliances, and coordinating products such as refrigerators, laundry appliances, induction cooking, air conditioning, and Jet Bot robot cleaners. Samsung also highlighted Flex Connect, an energy-demand-response program linked to SmartThings Energy. Samsung’s AI for All announcement | Samsung’s home demonstration

Why it matters: This is the most complete platform direction at CES 2025. For a household already using several Samsung products, a common account, app, hub, and automation system may be more useful than buying disconnected “smart” appliances one at a time.

Why to be cautious: “Home AI” is a platform ambition, not proof that a home will become autonomous. The useful questions are concrete:

  • Which functions work with third-party devices?
  • Which require Samsung appliances, a Samsung hub, a compatible phone, or a Samsung TV?
  • Which features work locally when the internet is down?
  • What data is collected by microphones, cameras, motion sensors, and voice profiles?
  • Are energy savings measured, estimated, or simply promised?
  • Will the system reduce work, or mainly generate more alerts?

Samsung also cautioned that availability, timing, location, and specifications for some features could change. Samsung’s Home AI qualifications

Best for: Homeowners already invested in Samsung appliances who want one ecosystem.

Less suitable for: Buyers who prefer local-first control, minimal account dependence, or broad platform neutrality.

Best smart-home robot concept: Samsung Ballie

Ballie was CES 2025’s clearest expression of the roaming home assistant: a small mobile robot intended to move through the house, interact conversationally, adjust connected devices, greet people, manage schedules, and set reminders.

Samsung and Google Cloud later announced that Ballie would use Gemini-related technology for conversational and proactive assistance, with availability announced for the United States and South Korea in summer 2025. That announcement does not by itself establish current retail stock, final pricing, subscription terms, warranty coverage, or independent performance. Samsung and Google Cloud’s Ballie announcement

Ballie is the most interesting smart-home robot concept from CES 2025, but not automatically the best product to buy. Its value depends on whether it can:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Navigate reliably around furniture, stairs, pets, cables, and clutter.
  • Recognize rooms and household members accurately.
  • Protect conversations, images, schedules, and location data.
  • Remain useful between charges.
  • Perform tasks better than fixed sensors, a phone, or a conventional voice assistant.
  • Continue offering useful functions if cloud services or a subscription are unavailable.

Verdict: Watch rather than buy on the basis of the CES demonstration alone. A mature smart lock or robot cleaner offers a clearer benefit today; Ballie represents where household robotics may go next.

Best practical robot-mopping innovation: Ecovacs Deebot X8

The Ecovacs Deebot X8 family addressed a genuine weakness of robot mops: a dirty stationary pad can spread grime across the next section of floor. Ecovacs presented its OZMO Roller technology as an instant self-washing roller-mop system, with the roller continuously refreshed during cleaning. Ecovacs X8 CES announcement | Ecovacs U.S. X8 campaign page

This is a more credible innovation than a vague promise of a robot that “understands the home.” The purpose is specific and measurable: improve hard-floor mopping by keeping the active cleaning surface cleaner.

It does not mean the robot is maintenance-free. Owners should still expect to empty or clean the dirty-water system, deal with hair, replace filters and rollers, clean brushes, manage odors, and buy dock consumables. A self-washing roller also does not guarantee good results on dried stains, textured flooring, thresholds, rugs, or pet messes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before buying, confirm the exact X8 model, dock configuration, regional warranty, included accessories, and current U.S. price. The CES material does not establish a single universal configuration or current pricing.

Amazon Echo Dot (newest model) - Vibrant sounding speaker, Designed for Alexa+, Great for bedrooms, dining rooms and offices, Charcoal
  • Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
  • Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
  • Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
  • Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
  • Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.

Best for: Homes with substantial hard flooring where mopping consistency matters.

Less suitable for: Highly cluttered homes, apartments with many thresholds, delicate rugs, or anyone unwilling to maintain a robot dock.

Best premium robot-vacuum family to watch: Roborock Saros

Roborock’s CES range should be divided into two very different stories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Saros Z70: best for spectacle

The Saros Z70 attracted attention with a retractable five-axis mechanical arm intended to move selected objects out of the robot’s path. That could reduce one source of failure—small objects blocking a cleaning run—but it does not make the Z70 a general-purpose household robot.

The important tests are whether it can identify fragile items, socks, cables, toys, pet waste, and valuable objects safely, and whether moving an object actually improves cleaning enough to justify extra mechanical complexity. A booth demonstration cannot answer those questions.

Saros 10 and 10R: more relevant to ordinary buyers

The Saros 10 and 10R are conventional premium robot vacuums with advanced navigation and low-profile designs. Roborock’s U.S. Saros 10 page lists Google Home and Amazon Alexa support, along with a low-clearance chassis. Roborock’s CES 2025 page | Roborock Saros 10

A low-profile robot may reach beneath more furniture, but the design can involve trade-offs in battery capacity, dustbin size, water tanks, or sensor placement. Buyers should prioritize navigation around cables and clutter, carpet transitions, thresholds, pet bowls, dock access, replacement-part availability, and offline behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: The Z70 is the most memorable CES robot. The Saros 10 and 10R are potentially more sensible premium purchases, subject to independent reviews, real cleaning results, local pricing, and support.

  • Crystal-clear video calls: Video calls feel natural on the vibrant 11" screen with a centered, auto-framing camera, 3.3x zoom, and noise reduction technology. Use live view to check in on your family, pets, and more while you're away.

Best smart lock: Nuki Smart Lock fifth generation

Nuki’s fifth-generation Smart Lock was a CES 2025 Smart Home honoree. CES described it as supporting Matter and integration with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and other platforms. Nuki Smart Lock at CES

It is a stronger practical recommendation than many futuristic CES concepts because a smart lock has a clear job: control access to a door. Matter support may also reduce ecosystem lock-in, provided the exact model supports the functions the buyer needs.

Check the following before ordering:

  • Whether the lock fits the existing deadbolt or requires a cylinder replacement.
  • Whether Matter uses the preferred network and controller.
  • Whether remote access requires a separate bridge.
  • Whether Apple Home Key, keypad entry, fingerprints, guest access, and access history are supported by the exact model.
  • What happens during an internet outage, cloud outage, or dead battery.
  • Whether the door can lock and unlock automatically without binding or resistance.
  • Whether a landlord, insurer, building manager, or local code restriction affects installation.

CES’s description and award should be treated as evidence of the product’s stated features, not independent proof that it is the best smart lock on the market.

Best for: Homeowners seeking broad ecosystem integration who can verify mechanical compatibility.

Less suitable for: Renters unable to alter a cylinder, unusual doors, or buyers who need guaranteed local operation without checking the exact configuration.

The most important trend: Matter, with important limits

CES programming placed Matter, smart-home standards, and AI-driven interoperability at the center of the industry’s direction. Matter is intended to make compatible products work across ecosystems and share richer device information. CES smart-device integration session | CES Matter and AI session | CES Matter ecosystem session

However, “supports Matter” does not mean that every feature will appear in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings. Support varies by:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Device type and Matter specification.
  • Firmware version.
  • Controller and Thread border router.
  • Operating system and ecosystem.
  • Whether advanced functions remain inside the manufacturer’s app.

A robot vacuum may expose basic start, stop, and status controls through a platform while keeping maps, room-specific cleaning, object recognition, mop settings, and maintenance reports in its proprietary app. A smart lock may support basic control through Matter while reserving access history, guest permissions, or auto-unlock settings for its own software.

Matter also does not automatically solve cameras, cloud dependence, privacy, security vulnerabilities, or long-term manufacturer support. Since the Connectivity Standards Alliance added cameras, additional closure capabilities, soil sensors, and expanded energy-management features in Matter 1.5 on November 20, 2025, CES 2025-era Matter support should not be treated as equivalent to every later capability. Matter 1.5 announcement

What I would actually choose

If you already own Samsung appliances

SmartThings Home AI is the most logical direction to investigate. The advantage comes from coordinated appliances, energy management, and sensors—not from adding an AI label to one more device. Confirm which automation features work with third-party products and which require Samsung hardware.

If you want a cross-platform access solution

Start with Nuki, but check the door hardware, Matter controller, bridge requirements, battery fallback, and desired access methods before purchasing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If better mopping is the priority

The Deebot X8’s roller-mop approach is the CES innovation with the clearest practical rationale. Wait for independent testing of hard-floor cleaning, dried stains, rugs, thresholds, hair handling, odor, and dock maintenance before paying a premium.

If you want the most ambitious robot

The Saros Z70 is the obvious early-adopter choice, but its mechanical arm should be treated as a specialized obstacle-handling feature—not evidence that it can perform general household chores.

If you want the lowest-risk purchase

Choose a mature, independently reviewed product whose core function is clear. CES concepts are useful for identifying future direction, but a buyer should not pay prototype-level prices for an unverified promise.

Buying checklist for CES smart-home products

  1. Confirm the exact model and region. Product names, features, included accessories, and availability may differ between the United States and other markets.
  2. Check the current shipping status. Separate products available to buy from announced launches, unclear availability, and demonstrations.
  3. Verify Matter details. Look for the exact device type, supported controller, Thread or Wi-Fi requirements, and features available outside the vendor app.
  4. Identify required hardware. A hub, bridge, border router, compatible phone, subscription, or proprietary account may be necessary.
  5. Read privacy controls. Check microphones, cameras, motion sensing, voice profiles, cloud processing, retention, deletion, and household notifications.
  6. Calculate ownership costs. Include batteries, bridges, dust bags, filters, brushes, mop rollers, cleaning fluid, replacement parts, and subscriptions.
  7. Test the offline fallback. Find out whether the core lock, appliance, or cleaner still works during an internet or cloud outage.
  8. Check support and repairability. Firmware policy, spare parts, local service, warranty terms, and account recovery matter more than a booth demonstration.
  9. Wait for independent testing on expensive products. Especially scrutinize robot navigation, pet-waste avoidance, cleaning results, battery life, and dock maintenance.

Final verdict

The best smart-home technology at CES 2025 was the technology that made existing household tasks more reliable—not the product with the most futuristic demonstration.

Samsung SmartThings Home AI offered the broadest platform vision. Ballie was the most compelling home-robot concept, but remained a product to watch until its retail and performance details were clear. Ecovacs’ Deebot X8 presented the most practical cleaning innovation. Roborock’s Saros range showed how far premium robot vacuums are pushing navigation and automation, while Nuki’s fifth-generation Smart Lock offered the clearest everyday use case among the headline products.

For buyers, the decisive questions remain simple: what works in your home, what works with your chosen ecosystem, what happens offline, how much maintenance will it require, and how much of the advertised intelligence is available now?

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
