Our best overall pick is the Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Triple Ply Stainless 16-inch roasting pan with Rack, which was selected independently by both Food Network and The Kitchn. It combines a large, useful format with even heating, a stable rack, wide handles, and all-stovetop compatibility. However, Cuisinart’s own website creates a current-availability problem by listing the model in its roasting-pan category while also identifying it as discontinued, so verify the exact seller, model number, warranty, and return policy before buying.
This guide compares six leading roasting pans using current manufacturer specifications and recent third-party testing. The commissioning publisher did not physically test these products, so “tested” refers to the independent evaluations cited below—not first-hand testing by this site.
Quick picks
| Best for | Roasting pan | Why it stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall | Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Triple Ply Stainless 16-inch Roasting Pan with Rack | Strong results in two independent comparisons, useful size, even heating, and all-stovetop compatibility. |
| Best premium induction option | Hestan Provisions 16.5-inch Classic Clad Roaster with Rack | Large capacity, triple-clad stainless construction, tall sides, and stated induction compatibility. |
| Best splurge | All-Clad D3 Stainless-Steel Flared Roasting Pan with Rack | Premium tri-ply construction and a flared shape that is particularly useful for gravy and pan sauces. |
| Best cast iron | Staub Cast Iron Rectangular Roasting Pan | Excellent heat retention and a presentation-friendly design for casseroles, lasagna, and smaller roasts. |
| Best ceramic nonstick | Caraway Roasting Pan | Easy food release, convenient cleanup, and a design that can go from oven to table. |
| Best budget | Farberware 12-by-16-inch Nonstick Roaster | A lower-cost format with heavy-gauge steel, a useful rack, and good reported chicken browning. |
For most cooks, start with a full-size stainless pan and rack. A format around 16 by 13 inches offers room for a chicken, turkey, or substantial roast without crowding the vegetables. If you mainly cook casseroles or want a pan that doubles as serving ware, cast iron or ceramic nonstick may be a better fit. If gravy is the priority, choose a pan with a stable, stovetop-compatible base and confirm compatibility for the exact model—especially if you use induction.

How the independent tests were conducted
Food Network reported testing 13 roasting pans, cooking 5- to 6-pound chickens with root vegetables. Its evaluation included handling, heating across two burners, pouring, and hand-cleaning. The comparison named Cuisinart Best Overall, Caraway Best Nonstick, and All-Clad Best Splurge.
The Kitchn reported testing five pans and cooking 25 pounds of chicken in total. It also selected the Cuisinart MultiClad Pro as its overall winner, with the Farberware as its budget pick and Caraway as its nonstick choice.
#1 Best Overall
- EXCEPTIONAL DESIGN: The Cuisinart 16-inch rectangular roaster is made with a high-performance stainless steel exterior and riveted stainless steel handles. The steel rack is large enough to handle a big Thanksgiving turkey and perfect for slow-roasting root vegetables
- STURDY & STRONG: A sturdy rack with stainless steel handles allows elevated cooking exposure for fat to drain off of food and makes removing items easy
- MEASUREMENTS: Pan measurements: 16.8” Length, 12.8” Width, 3.4” High. Handles with rack measurement: 21.1” Length, 12.8” Width, 5.8” High
- WARRANTY: Lifetime warranty
Those results provide useful independent evidence, but they are not interchangeable with a new house test. Results can vary with oven calibration, food quantity, rack position, cookware size, and the exact product version. The recommendations below therefore distinguish between reported test performance and manufacturer specifications.
1. Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Triple Ply Stainless 16-inch Roasting Pan with Rack
Best overall, when you can verify the exact product.
The Cuisinart is the safest lead recommendation because two independent editorial tests chose it as their overall winner. The Kitchn praised its sturdy construction, even cooking, wide handles, flat bottom, well-shaped rack, and compatibility with all stovetops. Food Network also found the approximately 16-by-13-inch format broadly useful and treated racks as an important part of a pan’s versatility.
The rack is valuable beyond turkey: it lifts a chicken or roast above its drippings, leaves room for vegetables underneath, and makes it easier to transfer the cooked food. The flat bottom is also useful when making gravy on the stovetop, provided the pan is used on a compatible burner arrangement.
The trade-offs are weight and somewhat narrow handles. A full pan containing a hot bird, vegetables, and liquid can be difficult to maneuver, so handle clearance and balance matter as much as the empty-pan construction.
Important availability warning
Cuisinart’s current roasting-pan category lists the MultiClad Pro model at $159.95, but separate Cuisinart discontinued-product pages identify the MultiClad Pro 16-inch roasting pan as discontinued. That does not prove that remaining units are unavailable through retailers, but it does mean buyers should confirm the exact model number, seller authorization, warranty coverage, stock status, and return terms before purchasing. Do not assume that a current-looking marketplace listing represents current manufacturer support.

2. Hestan Provisions 16.5-inch Classic Clad Roaster with Rack
Best premium turkey roaster and a strong induction-compatible alternative.
Homes & Gardens selected Hestan’s 16.5-inch roaster as its best turkey roasting pan. The reported specifications describe a capacity suitable for a turkey up to 20 pounds, triple-bonded 18/10 stainless steel with an aluminum core, compatibility with all cooktops including induction, oven and broiler safety to 600°F, dishwasher safety, and Italian manufacture.

- Healthy Material - The Tifanso heavy-duty turkey roasting pan with rack is made of high-quality, non-toxic stainless steel and contains no chemical coatings, ensuring that no harmful substances leach into your food. This turkey roasting pan can withstand temperatures up to 450℉ and is corrosion-resistant, promising a long service life without easy deformation. The oven pan heats quickly and distributes heat evenly, allowing you to make delicious gravies directly on an induction stove.
- Flat Rack to Meet Diverse Cooking Needs - The roasting pan includes a cooling rack that elevates food for even cooking and prevents roasts from falling over, standing tall enough to keep the turkey away from the juices. It leaves ample space for the flat rack at the bottom to bake vegetables. The flat rack of this oven pan is also great for cooling pies and cakes or for grilling seafood.
- High Sides with Riveted Handles - The stainless steel roasting pan features 3-inch deep sides that prevent oil splashing inside the oven while collecting drippings for gravy. The steel side handles of the turkey roster pan provide sturdy and secure lifting, making it easy to transfer the pan in and out of the oven.
- Easy to Clean - When the turkey pan comes to cleaning, use a soft sponge or a non-abrasive scrubber to avoid damaging the surface. The turkey roasting pan is dishwasher safe. It is recommended to apply oil or place tin foil in the pan to prevent food from sticking to the bottom. Additionally, adding water to the bottom while baking can help prevent the juices from burning.
- Versatile - This large roasting pan with rack is perfect for roasting turkeys, hams, prime ribs, chickens, and lambs. This baking pans for oven is also excellent for preparing lasagnas, brownies, casseroles, and vegetables. Ideal for everyday cooking, it’s a great addition to holiday entertaining for occasions such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and housewarmings.
Its V-shaped rack is a practical design choice. It supports the bird securely while leaving some space for vegetables and drippings. The tall sides help contain juices and splatter, while the comfortable handles should make a loaded pan easier to control. The pan is also positioned as a useful tool for making gravy, not merely as an oven container.
Hestan’s official product page confirms the product identity as the 16.5-inch Classic Clad Roaster with Rack. Before publication or purchase, however, verify the current price, stock, interior dimensions, rack clearance, and the precise care instructions. Capacity claims such as “up to 20 pounds” are not a substitute for checking whether your particular turkey fits comfortably with the rack installed.
Choose it if: you want a premium stainless roaster and induction compatibility is important.
Look elsewhere if: you need a compact pan, want the lightest possible cookware, or are shopping strictly by price.

Best splurge and one of the strongest candidates for pan sauces.
Food Network named the All-Clad D3 flared roasting pan its splurge pick. The flared shape gives the pan a broad working area and makes it particularly attractive for deglazing, gravy, and pan sauces. A stable base is important here: after roasting, you want enough contact and balance to add liquid and scrape up browned bits without making a heavy pan awkward or unsafe.
All-Clad describes the D3 line as three-ply bonded stainless construction. Its guidance states that stainless roasters are oven-safe to 600°F and that large models with racks can accommodate turkeys up to 25 pounds. The manufacturer also says many stainless and tri-ply models work on gas, electric, and ceramic stovetops, but some models exclude induction.
That last qualification is critical. Homes & Gardens identifies an 18.5-inch D3 flared roasting pan as an extra-large option for gravy and reports that the cited model is not induction-compatible. Do not generalize that statement to every D3 roaster—or generalize induction compatibility from one All-Clad model to another. Check the exact SKU and manufacturer documentation before buying.

4. Staub Cast Iron Rectangular Roasting Pan
Best cast-iron roasting dish for casseroles, lasagna, and heat retention.
Recommended Free Tools
Staub is not a direct replacement for a large turkey roaster. It is better understood as a heavy, versatile rectangular roasting dish. Homes & Gardens selected the Staub Cast Iron Roaster as its cast-iron choice and emphasized its suitability for lasagna, casseroles, and roasted dishes.
Zwilling’s U.S. listing identifies a large 15-by-10-inch rectangular Staub roasting pan made from enameled cast iron. That version is listed with a 6.76-quart capacity and an 11.4-pound empty weight. It requires no seasoning, is listed as oven-safe to 500°F, works on induction and other stovetops, is dishwasher-safe, and is made in France.
The weight is both the attraction and the limitation. Cast iron holds heat well and can promote steady browning, but an 11.4-pound pan is already substantial before adding food. It also does not provide the same turkey-oriented rack arrangement as the stainless models in this guide. A smaller 12-by-8-inch version is listed separately at 3.33 quarts and 7.05 pounds, so size must be specified when comparing prices or capacity.
The enameled interior makes this more convenient than bare cast iron: there is no seasoning routine, and it can move from oven to table attractively. Still, confirm the care guidance for your exact version and use caution when moving it while hot.
Choose it if: you want strong heat retention, table-ready presentation, and a pan for casseroles or smaller roasted dishes.
Look elsewhere if: you need a lightweight pan, a large turkey rack, or maximum usable interior space for vegetables around a bird.
5. Caraway Roasting Pan
Best ceramic nonstick option for easy release and serving convenience.
Caraway is the most serveware-oriented option in this group. The Kitchn selected it as its Best Nonstick choice and described it as a heavy-duty pan with a ceramic nonstick interior that can double as serveware. Food Network also named it Best Nonstick, although its testing notes add an important qualification: the nonstick pans browned the vegetables too aggressively and were eliminated from Food Network’s final recommended group.

- HEALTHY - E-far metal roasting pan with racks is made of high quality stainless steel without any toxic and chemical coating, No harmful substance leeching into your food, Great alternative to aluminum pans and Teflon coating pans, Healthy for daily use
- HEAVY GAUGE - Turkey roaster is constructed by high hardness stainless steel, No deformation or twisting at high temperatures, V-shaped rack is thick enough to support heavier food, Sturdy for a lifetime of use, Easy to clean up and dishwasher safe, Noted: NOT induction
- PRACTICAL DESIGN - Wide and riveted stainless handles for a comfortable and secure grip, Raised stationary handles for grabbing with oven mitts easily, Fitting well into smaller ovens, 3.75 inch deep Side design for containing more food, Brushed finish for abrasion resistance
- 2 RACKS - Removable V-Shaped rack elevates food for even cooking, Prevent roasts to fall over, Stood tall enough to avoid the turkey touch the juices, Leaving large space for flat rack at the bottom to bake vegetables, Flat rack also great for cooling pies, cakes or grilling seafood
- MULTI-PURPOSE - Medium roasting pan is ideal for roasting turkeys, hams, prime ribs, chickens and lambs, Also great for lasagnas, brownie, casseroles, vegetables, Great for everyday cooking and holiday entertaining like Christmas, Thanksgiving and Housewarming, etc
That apparent contradiction is useful rather than confusing. Caraway may be a good choice for cooks who prioritize food release, appearance, and cleanup, while still being less compelling for high-heat roasting of vegetables. A nonstick surface can reduce scrubbing, but browning behavior, temperature limits, rack stability, coating durability, and the pan’s ability to tolerate metal utensils all need consideration.
Use the manufacturer’s care and temperature instructions rather than assuming that the pan, rack, and handles have identical limits. Nonstick racks can have lower temperature limits than their pans, and ceramic nonstick performance may change with repeated high-heat use.
Choose it if: you value easy release, simpler cleanup, and a pan attractive enough to take directly to the table.
Look elsewhere if: your priority is deeply browned root vegetables, aggressive stovetop deglazing, or long-term tolerance of very high heat.
6. Farberware 12-by-16-inch Nonstick Roaster
Best budget roasting pan.
The Kitchn selected the Farberware 12-by-16-inch Nonstick Roaster as its budget winner. Its testing described heavy-gauge steel, a strong rack, well-placed handles, a smooth nonstick surface, and attractive chicken browning.
The dimensions make it a useful value counterpoint to premium stainless models. A rack gives it more flexibility than a simple casserole dish, while the nonstick interior may reduce cleanup after roasting. Well-placed handles are especially important on a budget pan because a loaded roaster can be difficult to grip safely even when the empty pan feels manageable.
Availability and care details should be checked carefully. Confirm that the exact 12-by-16-inch model is still actively sold, whether the rack shares the pan’s temperature limit, and whether the manufacturer recommends dishwasher cleaning or hand-washing. For any nonstick roaster, avoid assuming that a dishwasher-safe label means the coating will retain its best performance indefinitely; gentle hand-washing is often the safer routine when the instructions permit it.
Choose it if: you need a capable roasting pan at a lower purchase price and do not require premium stainless construction.

Size and usable interior space
Do not judge a roasting pan only by its outside dimensions. Measure the usable interior, rack clearance, and the room left around the food. A bird packed tightly against the sides will have less airflow, and vegetables crowded beneath it are more likely to steam or scorch unevenly.

Food Network found that an approximately 16-by-13-inch format was broadly useful. For turkey or large cuts, also consider the height of the sides, whether the rack leaves enough clearance for vegetables, and whether the handles remain reachable with oven mitts.
Rack shape
Racks materially improve versatility. Food Network’s test-kitchen guidance favored V-shaped racks because they hold different bird sizes securely while leaving space for vegetables and drippings. U-shaped racks can be stable, but may take up more room in the base and reduce the space available for mirepoix or other roasting vegetables.

Construction and stovetop use
Stainless and tri-ply pans are generally better candidates for deglazing than nonstick pans because they tolerate scraping and are designed around browning and fond development. A flat or sufficiently stable base helps when a pan moves from oven to stovetop.
Never infer induction compatibility from the words “stainless steel” or “tri-ply.” Verify it for the exact model. The Hestan specification in this guide states compatibility with induction, while some All-Clad D3 flared models cited by reviewers are not induction-compatible. Cooktop compatibility can vary by SKU.
Weight and handling
Empty weight is only the beginning. A pan holding a 5- to 6-pound chicken, vegetables, and hot liquid can become difficult to lift, especially when pulled from a low oven rack. Favor handles that are high enough to clear the pan walls, wide enough for mitts, and positioned so the load remains balanced when poured or transferred.
Temperature and care limits
Check separate instructions for the pan, rack, lid, and any nonstick components. All-Clad recommends hand-washing and nonabrasive utensils for nonstick pieces and warns that a nonstick rack may have a lower temperature limit than the pan. Cuisinart’s roasting-pan category says its roasting pans are dishwasher-safe, while Food Network hand-cleaned its tested pans and did not recommend dishwashing them. These differences make the exact manual more reliable than a general category label.
A rigorous house-testing protocol for these six pans
If a publisher wants to label this comparison “tested and reviewed” in its own voice, the six products should be evaluated under the same conditions:
- Standardize the food: use the same 5- to 6-pound chicken, root vegetables, oil, seasoning quantities, oven rack position, and cooking method.
- Record cooking results: document chicken-skin color, internal temperature, browning uniformity, vegetable scorching, and the behavior of the drippings.
- Measure the cookware: record usable interior dimensions, empty weight, rack clearance, and loaded weight.
- Test handling: place and remove each loaded pan using the same oven mitts or folded towels. Note handle clearance, balance, and whether the rack shifts.
- Test stovetop performance only where permitted: heat an equal volume of water over two burners and record time to boil and visible hot spots. Do not test or claim induction compatibility unless the manufacturer confirms that exact model or it is tested on an appropriate induction cooktop.
- Test pouring: pour a measured quantity of liquid from each pan and record control, drips, and whether the pan edge gives enough clearance.
- Standardize cleanup: hand-wash every pan using the same procedure, recording pan and rack cleanup separately. Follow the manufacturer’s restrictions for nonstick and enameled surfaces.
- Verify purchase details immediately before publication: check price, stock, model number, warranty, country of origin, oven limit, rack limit, and dishwasher instructions.
Which roasting pan should you buy?
- Choose the Cuisinart if you want the strongest combination of independent test support, capacity, rack utility, and all-stovetop compatibility—but verify availability first.
- Choose the Hestan if you want a premium stainless roaster with a stated induction-compatible design and room for a large turkey.
- Choose the All-Clad if premium stainless construction and gravy or pan-sauce performance matter more than price; verify induction compatibility by SKU.
- Choose the Staub if your cooking is centered on casseroles, lasagna, smaller roasts, heat retention, and attractive table presentation.
- Choose the Caraway if easy release, cleanup, and serveware appeal outweigh maximum high-heat browning performance.
- Choose the Farberware if you want the budget pick with a rack and nonstick convenience, subject to current availability and care-limit verification.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size roasting pan is best for most home cooks?
A format around 16 by 13 inches is broadly useful for chickens, large roasts, and many turkeys, provided the usable interior leaves space around the food. Check the actual interior dimensions and rack clearance rather than relying only on the advertised outside size.
Is a roasting-pan rack necessary?
No, but it substantially improves versatility. A rack elevates meat above the drippings, helps air circulate, and leaves room for vegetables underneath. V-shaped racks are especially useful because they support different bird sizes while preserving base space.
Can a stainless-steel roasting pan go on an induction cooktop?
Sometimes. Stainless-steel construction alone does not guarantee induction compatibility. Verify the exact model and SKU. The Hestan model discussed here is specified for induction, while some All-Clad D3 flared models cited in the research are not.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Is cast iron better than stainless steel for roasting?
Neither is universally better. Cast iron retains heat well and works especially well for casseroles, lasagna, and smaller roasted dishes, but it is heavy and may not include a turkey-style rack. Stainless is usually more practical for large birds, lighter handling, and deglazing.
Should a roasting pan and rack be washed in the dishwasher?
Follow the exact instructions for both pieces. Care guidance varies: Cuisinart’s category information says its roasting pans are dishwasher-safe, while Food Network hand-cleaned its tested pans, and All-Clad recommends hand-washing for nonstick pieces. Do not assume the rack has the same limit as the pan.
The Bottom Line
The Cuisinart MultiClad Pro remains the most defensible overall choice because Food Network and The Kitchn independently selected it, but its current-versus-discontinued listing conflict must be resolved before purchase. Hestan is the strongest premium induction-oriented alternative; All-Clad is the upscale choice for gravy and pan sauces; Staub suits casserole-focused cooking; Caraway prioritizes release and presentation; and Farberware delivers the clearest budget case. Whichever model you choose, confirm the exact size, rack limit, cooktop compatibility, care instructions, and current seller details before placing a hot, fully loaded pan in the oven.
