The Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS is the best refrigerator for most shoppers who prioritize temperature stability, produce preservation, noise, parts availability, and serviceability. It is not the right choice for every kitchen: its approximately 20.8-cubic-foot counter-depth capacity is modest for a large family, and its U.S. price was about $3,899 when checked.
For a family that needs more counter-depth storage at a lower price, choose the LG LRFLC2706S. The Samsung Bespoke RF30BB6200QL is the better feature-rich option, the Whirlpool WRS588FIHZ is the strongest side-by-side choice, and the Frigidaire FFTR1425VW is the sensible inexpensive refrigerator for a small household, apartment, office, or secondary kitchen.
These are U.S.-specific recommendations based on independent testing, manufacturer specifications, serviceability, installation requirements, and current availability checks made against the research snapshot of August 9, 2026. Prices and stock can change quickly.
Quick comparison: the five refrigerators worth considering
This is a category-based shortlist rather than a universal ranking. A refrigerator that is ideal for food preservation may be a poor choice for a family that buys in bulk. Likewise, the best side-by-side layout will not suit someone who regularly stores wide platters or pizza boxes.

Capacity figures in this table are manufacturer-advertised figures unless otherwise noted. They do not equal the amount of storage that is easy to use. Shelf spacing, door-bin intrusion, ice-maker placement, and drawer access can make two refrigerators with similar cubic-foot ratings feel very different.
How these picks were chosen
The first three recommendations are supported by RTINGS testing of 39 independently purchased refrigerators. Its refrigerator evaluations consider temperature uniformity, produce preservation, ice making, actual storage capacity, noise, parts availability, and authorized service coverage. Those measurements are more useful than simply counting features or averaging retailer star ratings.
#1 Best Overall
- SPACIOUS STORAGE: With a generous 7.5 cu. ft. capacity, this platinum refrigerator ensures you have ample space for all your essentials, making it easy to keep everything at your fingertips.
- ORGANIZED CONVENIENCE: Equipped with removable glass shelves, a transparent crisper, and a full-width door bin, this small upright fridge offers organized and convenient storage for all your food and beverage items.
- DEDICATED FREEZER: Enjoy the convenience of a separate freezer compartment with ample space for your frozen goods, along with an adjustable thermostat and interior lighting for both compartments.
- SLEEK DESIGN: Featuring a sleek and durable platinum design with chrome trim and handles, this small fridge freezer adds an upscale retro look that will elevate your space.
- FLEXIBLE CONFIGURATION: The adjustable/removable shelves offer flexibility to customize the interior layout according to your needs, accommodating items of various sizes with ease. A reversible door also allows for flexible opening to best suit your space
Temperature stability received particular weight. A refrigerator should keep food cold throughout the cabinet, not merely display a cold setting. Independent testing can reveal differences between the door bins, upper shelves, lower shelves, and freezer. For context, Consumer Reports tests refrigerators in climate-controlled chambers and monitors them for more than a month; its top-freezer testing process collects more than 5.4 million temperature readings per model.
Food preservation, usable capacity, sound levels, repair access, and current availability also matter. A refrigerator is a 24-hour appliance, so a theoretically excellent model that is discontinued, impossible to service locally, or too large for the delivery path is not a good recommendation.
1. Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS: best overall
Best for: Shoppers who want the strongest measured combination of temperature control, produce preservation, quiet operation, and serviceability—and who can live with counter-depth capacity.
Why we recommend it
The Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS is the best overall pick when performance and ownership prospects matter more than maximum cubic feet or an exterior water dispenser. Its separate cooling architecture helps isolate refrigerator and freezer conditions, humidity, and odors. Bosch lists dual compressors, VitaFresh Pro, Home Connect, organized freezer drawers, and an internal filtered-water dispenser.
What testing shows
- RTINGS everyday use: 8.1
- Temperature uniformity: 8.4
- Ice making: 8.2
- Produce preservation: 9.0
- Parts availability: 8.9
- Noise: 8.3
- Produce moisture retention: 97.4%
- Measured cooling-cycle noise: 36.6 dBA
RTINGS attributes much of the model’s strong temperature and humidity performance to separate compressors and evaporators for the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The 97.4% moisture-retention result is especially compelling for shoppers who regularly buy leafy greens, berries, herbs, or other produce that dries out quickly.

Important specifications
Bosch lists approximate dimensions of 72 inches high × 35 5/8 inches wide × 27 13/16 inches deep. The listed required cutout is approximately 72 × 36 × 25 inches. The specification sheet lists approximately 20.8 cubic feet of total capacity, 570 kWh per year, and ENERGY STAR qualification. Confirm the installation manual for the exact clearance requirements before ordering; a nominal counter-depth measurement does not include every door, handle, hinge, or ventilation requirement.
Main drawbacks
- Limited capacity: Approximately 20.8 cubic feet is substantially less than the LG’s 27 cubic feet and Samsung’s 30 cubic feet.
- Price: Bosch’s U.S. page listed the stainless model at approximately $3,899 when checked. This is a premium purchase, and prices are volatile.
- Internal water dispenser: It keeps the exterior cleaner and preserves door storage, but dispensing is slower and less convenient than an exterior dispenser. Good Housekeeping also identifies slow water dispensing as a drawback.
- Installation height: At roughly 72 inches before accounting for the opening and clearances, it may not fit beneath low cabinets.
Who should not buy it
Do not choose the Bosch 800 if your household routinely buys in bulk, needs maximum freezer space, or cannot comfortably fit a counter-depth refrigerator. A larger standard-depth model may be more practical even if its laboratory scores are not quite as strong.
Best alternative
The Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS is the best standard-depth alternative. RTINGS rated it 8.4 for everyday use, 8.6 for temperature uniformity, 8.6 for produce preservation, 8.3 for refrigerator capacity, and 9.1 for noise. Its 97.2% produce-moisture-retention result is close to the Bosch 800’s. It provides more interior space, but uses a simpler single-compressor/single-evaporator design and had lower parts-availability results partly because the design entered the market in 2024.
2. LG LRFLC2706S: best counter-depth value for families
Best for: Families that want a cleaner counter-depth appearance but need considerably more usable space than the Bosch 800 provides.

The LG LRFLC2706S is unusually capacious for a counter-depth French-door refrigerator. LG markets it as a 27-cubic-foot Counter-Depth MAX model. It includes an internal water dispenser, freezer ice maker, Door Cooling+, a Cool Guard metal interior, ThinQ connectivity, and ThinQ Care maintenance monitoring.
LG’s U.S. page showed sale pricing of approximately $1,699 to $1,849, depending on finish, when checked. LG also advertised a limited two-year warranty promotion for qualifying purchases made between April 9, 2026, and December 31, 2026; the promotion requires connection through the ThinQ app and is subject to the manufacturer’s terms. That promotion should not be mistaken for a permanent standard warranty.
What testing shows
- RTINGS everyday use: 7.3
- Refrigerator capacity: 7.7
- Freezer capacity: 7.6
- Temperature uniformity: 9.1
- Ice making: 8.1
- Counter-depth: yes
- Water dispenser: internal
RTINGS found more usable storage than in many 36-inch counter-depth competitors, including the Bosch 800, and found the freezer comparatively capacious. The model’s temperature-uniformity result is excellent. Its produce-preservation performance, however, was mediocre relative to the Bosch 500 and should not be represented as equivalent to Bosch’s measured moisture retention.
Main drawbacks and reliability qualification
- Internal dispenser: It is cleaner-looking but less convenient than an exterior dispenser.
- Door clearance: Thick doors may be difficult to close or may require additional clearance in a tight installation; Tom’s Guide lists this as a drawback.
- Brand-level compressor concerns: Consumer Reports says LG French-door, side-by-side, bottom-freezer, and built-in refrigerators in its survey were more likely to have compressor problems than models from most other brands.
That Consumer Reports finding is brand- and configuration-level survey evidence, not proof that every LRFLC2706S will fail. It is a reason to verify warranty terms, local service coverage, and parts access—not a basis for declaring this exact model defective.

Choose another refrigerator if your first priorities are best-in-class produce preservation, a long record of parts availability, or a built-in exterior water dispenser. Also be cautious if your local LG authorized service coverage is weak.
Best alternative
The Bosch 800 is the performance-first alternative. It costs substantially more and offers less space, but its measured produce preservation, parts availability, and serviceability evidence are stronger.
3. Samsung Bespoke RF30BB6200QL: best feature-rich midrange refrigerator
Best for: Buyers who genuinely want smart features, an automatically refilling pitcher, dual ice, and a large capacity.
Why we recommend it
The Samsung Bespoke RF30BB6200QL is a strong choice for households that will use its convenience features rather than merely tolerate them. Samsung’s documentation lists 30 cubic feet of capacity, an AutoFill Water Pitcher, conventional cubed ice plus Ice Bites, Wi-Fi connectivity, Twin Cooling Plus, and ENERGY STAR qualification.
The cited specification sheet lists approximately 695 kWh per year, up to approximately 5.3 pounds of ice per day, and approximately 9.9 pounds of ice storage. The larger capacity explains why its annual energy use should not be compared directly with the smaller 20.8-cubic-foot Bosch without acknowledging the size difference.
What testing shows
- RTINGS everyday use: 8.0
- Temperature uniformity: 8.5
- Ice making: 8.2
- Produce preservation: 8.0
- Refrigerator capacity: 8.6
- Parts availability: 7.2
- Noise: 7.8
- Produce moisture retention: 92.5%
- Measured cooling-cycle noise: 38.1 dBA
RTINGS found consistent temperatures, good produce preservation, a removable automatically filled pitcher, and useful dual-ice storage. Its feature and capacity balance is more persuasive than the idea that smart functions make food colder or safer; Wi-Fi and app features are conveniences, not evidence of superior refrigeration.

A versatile small refrigerator perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, offices, or dorm living
Main drawbacks and failure modes
- Complexity: Two ice types, a pitcher, water systems, sensors, Wi-Fi hardware, and dispensing components create more potential repair points than a simple top-freezer.
- Ice and dispenser risk: Consumer Reports identifies icemakers and water/ice dispensers as the most commonly reported refrigerator problem areas in its member surveys.
- Service geography: RTINGS found Samsung authorized service coverage stronger in major metropolitan areas than in rural areas. Check your ZIP code before buying.
- Reliability history: Consumer Reports reports a history of poor predicted reliability and owner satisfaction for many Samsung French-door refrigerators. That is historical brand/configuration data, not a failure forecast for this exact model.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 survey included more than 71,534 refrigerators with icemakers purchased new between 2015 and 2025 and estimated that 31% experienced a problem by the end of the fifth year. This is survey-based predicted reliability, not a guaranteed failure rate for a new Samsung RF30BB6200QL.
Who should not buy it
Skip this model if you do not want an app, pitcher, or dual ice; if you live outside a reliable authorized-service area; or if minimizing components that can fail matters more than convenience.

Best alternative
The LG LRFLC2706S offers substantial capacity and app-based monitoring with fewer feature commitments. The Whirlpool WRS588FIHZ is a better match if the real requirement is exterior water and ice rather than smart functions.
4. Whirlpool WRS588FIHZ: best side-by-side refrigerator
Best for: Shoppers who specifically prefer side-by-side access, want a large freezer, and do not regularly store wide fresh-food items.
Why we recommend it
The Whirlpool WRS588FIHZ is a 36-inch, standard-depth side-by-side refrigerator with 28 cubic feet of advertised capacity. It has exterior filtered water and ice, In-Door-Ice storage, frameless glass shelves, and adjustable gallon door bins. Moving the ice bin into the freezer door frees some shelf space inside the freezer.
What testing shows
- RTINGS everyday use: 7.3
- Produce preservation: 6.1
- Refrigerator capacity: 8.2
- Freezer capacity: 9.5
- Temperature uniformity: 7.5
- Ice making: 7.7
- Water dispenser: in-door
The standout result is freezer capacity. A side-by-side keeps frozen food vertically accessible, so it can be more convenient than a deep bottom-freezer drawer for households that store many frozen items.
Main drawbacks
- Narrow compartments: Side-by-side shelves can make pizza boxes, sheet pans, wide platters, and large produce containers difficult to store.
- Weaker produce preservation: Its RTINGS produce-preservation score of 6.1 is materially below the Bosch 800 and Bosch 500 results.
- Standard-depth projection: Measure how far the cabinet, doors, and handles extend beyond the counters and walkway.
- Dispenser hardware: Exterior water and ice improve convenience but add plumbing, filters, valves, electronics, and an ice system that may eventually require service.
Whirlpool’s product page makes a “lowest repair rate” claim based on 2023 Traqline service-required data covering Q2 2022 through Q2 2023. That is a manufacturer-presented claim and should not be treated as an independent, current reliability ranking.
Who should not buy it
Do not choose this model if you frequently prepare large meals, store broad containers, or want the strongest possible produce-preservation performance. A French-door refrigerator usually provides a wider fresh-food compartment.
Best alternative
Choose the Bosch 500 if you want a standard-depth refrigerator with stronger measured produce preservation and quieter operation. Choose the Samsung if exterior convenience is less important than dual ice and an AutoFill pitcher.
5. Frigidaire FFTR1425VW: best inexpensive compact refrigerator

The Frigidaire FFTR1425VW is a straightforward 13.9-cubic-foot top-freezer refrigerator. It avoids the cost and complexity of an exterior water dispenser, smart controls, and multiple specialty compartments.
Best Buy listed it at approximately $656.99 and showed delivery and pickup availability when checked. Retail availability is location-dependent, so confirm the exact model number and delivery date before purchasing.
What testing shows
- RTINGS everyday use: 6.9
- Temperature uniformity: 8.4
- Ice making: 7.4
- Produce preservation: 6.8
- Refrigerator capacity: 6.4
- Parts availability: 7.6
- Noise: 7.4
- Measured cooling-cycle noise: 39.5 dBA
RTINGS describes it as a budget 28-inch top-freezer for people living alone or with one other person. Its temperature-uniformity result is strong for the price, even though storage flexibility and produce preservation are more limited than in the larger recommendations.
Important specifications
The refrigerator is approximately 27 5/8 inches wide and 29 3/8 inches deep with the handle. Features include reversible doors, electronic controls, adjustable glass shelves, gallon door storage, a crisper, and LED lighting. It has no exterior water or ice dispenser.

- Small capacity: It is not suitable for a large family, frequent batch cooking, or bulk shopping.
- Basic storage: The freezer and fresh-food compartments offer less flexibility than larger French-door models.
- Garage uncertainty: Do not assume this refrigerator is garage-ready. Confirm that designation with Frigidaire before installing it in an unconditioned garage.
A low purchase price is not necessarily the lowest lifetime cost if the refrigerator is too small for the household and forces frequent shopping or requires replacement sooner than a properly sized model.
Best alternative
A larger top-freezer model is the better value when you need around 20 cubic feet. The Maytag MRT311FFFZ is one possible alternative, but its owner page showed temporary out-of-stock status when checked, so confirm availability before treating it as a current recommendation.
Strong alternatives that deserve a conditional recommendation
Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS: best standard-depth performance alternative
The Bosch 500 is the logical alternative for shoppers who like the Bosch 800’s test results but need more room and do not require counter-depth installation. Its RTINGS scores—8.4 everyday use, 8.6 temperature uniformity, 8.6 produce preservation, 8.3 refrigerator capacity, and 9.1 noise—make it a compelling choice. Its standard-depth cabinet provides more storage than the Bosch 800.
The compromise is a single-compressor/single-evaporator design and lower parts-availability results. Because the design entered the market in 2024, lower parts availability may reflect its newer status rather than a demonstrated mechanical weakness.
Café CGE29DP2TS1: premium standard-depth alternative
RTINGS describes the Café CGE29DP2TS1 as a strong premium standard-depth alternative with a separate temperature-controlled drawer and AutoFill pitcher. Its freezer-temperature uniformity is somewhat weaker than the Bosch 800. It is worth considering when those convenience features and a larger standard-depth layout matter more than the Bosch’s overall balance.
GE Profile PFE28KYNFS: good feature set, uncertain current availability
Tom’s Guide currently calls the GE Profile PFE28KYNFS its best overall refrigerator, highlighting its hands-free AutoFill dispenser, temperature-controlled drawer, 27.7-cubic-foot capacity, dual evaporators, and ENERGY STAR certification.
Rank #3
- Large Capacity, 21 Cu. Ft.
- Factory Installed Automatic Ice Maker
- ENERGY STAR Qualified
However, GE’s own product page showed it as a clearance item, temporarily out of stock, and available only through local-store checking when crawled. Treat it as a conditional alternative, not an unqualified current top pick. Before buying, verify production status, warranty support, parts availability, and delivery timing.
Maytag MRT311FFFZ: simple value option, subject to stock
The Maytag MRT311FFFZ is a 33-inch, approximately 21-cubic-foot top-freezer model with PowerCold and no water dispenser. Tom’s Guide lists approximately 20.5 cubic feet and 436 kWh per year. It could be a sensible simple-refrigerator option, but Maytag’s owner page showed temporary out-of-stock status when checked.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhich refrigerator configuration is right for your kitchen?
French-door
French-door refrigerators put fresh food at eye level and provide a wide refrigerator compartment for platters, containers, and large produce. They are usually the easiest layout for a family kitchen.
The trade-offs are more doors, seals, electronics, and ice systems. Freezer drawers can bury food, and the door bins may be warmer than the main compartment. Consumer Reports’ survey data also generally gives simpler top-freezer designs stronger predicted-reliability results than complex French-door models.
Counter-depth
Counter-depth refrigerators project less into the kitchen and can create a more integrated appearance. Food near the front is easier to reach, but the cabinet usually provides less total storage. “Counter-depth” is not a standardized promise that the entire appliance will align with the countertop: doors, handles, hinges, and required ventilation can still extend beyond it.
Side-by-side
Side-by-side models offer equally accessible refrigerator and freezer compartments and convenient vertical freezer storage. They can work well in kitchens where door-swing clearance is limited.
Their vertical compartments are narrow, however. Large platters, sheet pans, pizza boxes, and wide produce containers may not fit. Exterior dispensers and ice makers are also common, adding convenience and potential service points.
Top-freezer
Top-freezer refrigerators are usually the least expensive, simplest, and most energy-efficient configuration. They are a strong choice for rentals, garages when specifically approved, offices, and secondary kitchens. The compromise is that fresh food is lower and the freezer is at eye level, with fewer flexible-storage features.
Consumer Reports says top-freezers consistently receive some of its strongest predicted-reliability ratings, partly because they usually have fewer components such as icemakers and dispensers.
Reliability, service, and ownership cost
Do not confuse a good test score with a guaranteed trouble-free life
There are several types of evidence in refrigerator coverage, and they answer different questions:
- Exact-model laboratory testing: Measures temperature, noise, ice production, storage, and sometimes parts or service access. RTINGS’ model scores fall into this category.
- Brand- or configuration-level survey data: Useful for identifying risk patterns across many owners, but not proof of what one new model will do.
- Manufacturer claims: May describe warranty terms, service data, or design features, but should be labeled as manufacturer claims.
- Retailer reviews: Useful for spotting complaints about delivery damage, shelving, noise, and installation, but not controlled reliability evidence.
Retailer star ratings can be distorted by early ownership reviews, review-selection bias, incentivized feedback, model-number substitutions, and retailer-specific delivery or installation problems. Match the exact model and suffix before treating a review as relevant.
Every additional convenience adds another service point
Potential failure points include exterior water dispensers, icemakers, dual icemakers, AutoFill pitchers, convertible drawers, door-in-door compartments, touchscreens, Wi-Fi modules, cameras, and food-recognition systems. None of these features guarantees failure, but each adds hardware, plumbing, electronics, or software that can require diagnosis.
Consumer Reports identifies icemakers and water/ice dispensers as the most commonly reported refrigerator problem areas in its member surveys. A reliability-focused buyer may reasonably prefer an in-freezer icemaker—or no icemaker—over an exterior dispenser and dual-ice system.
Check service before placing the order
- Enter your ZIP code into the manufacturer’s authorized-service locator.
- Call a local appliance repair company and ask whether it services the exact brand and model family.
- Check whether compressors, control boards, fans, ice makers, valves, and dispenser parts are available.
- Read the warranty for the sealed system, compressor, labor, and parts separately. A long compressor warranty may not include labor or the rest of the refrigerator.
- Confirm that a clearance or closeout model will still receive warranty service and replacement parts.
National service coverage can look good while local access is poor. This check is particularly important for shoppers in rural areas and for complex LG, Samsung, or feature-heavy refrigerators.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Energy use: compare similar sizes, not just annual kWh
Use the yellow EnergyGuide label and the ENERGY STAR refrigerator guidance rather than assuming that a newer or larger model is automatically more efficient.
ENERGY STAR notes that larger refrigerators generally consume more energy, models in the 16-to-20-cubic-foot range are typically among the most energy-efficient, top-freezers generally use less energy than bottom-freezer or side-by-side designs, and fewer doors can reduce air leakage.
The Bosch 800 is listed at approximately 570 kWh per year, while the 30-cubic-foot Samsung is listed at approximately 695 kWh per year. That does not mean the Bosch is automatically more efficient for every use: it is also much smaller. Compare annual kWh among refrigerators with similar capacity and configuration, then consider whether the additional storage actually replaces a second refrigerator or more frequent shopping trips.

- Opening width: Measure at the top, middle, and bottom; use the narrowest measurement.
- Opening height: Measure from the finished floor to the underside of cabinets or trim. Include flooring that may be installed during a renovation.
- Depth: Measure to the wall, backsplash, baseboard, and trim—not just to the counter edge.
- Appliance depth: Compare cabinet depth, depth with doors, depth with handles, and depth with the doors opened.
- Door swing: Confirm hinge-side clearance and whether doors can open far enough for interior drawers to pull out.
- Drawer clearance: French-door freezer drawers and temperature-controlled drawers need room in front of the refrigerator.
- Delivery path: Measure exterior doors, hallways, stairways, elevators, island gaps, and tight turns. Ask whether the retailer removes and reinstalls the doors.
- Ventilation: Follow the exact installation manual for rear, top, and side clearances.
- Water line: If the refrigerator has an icemaker, dispenser, or AutoFill feature, confirm the shutoff valve and water-line location.
- Electrical outlet: Verify the outlet location and the manufacturer’s installation requirements; follow local electrical code.
- Garage use: Confirm that the exact model is rated for garage temperatures. Do not infer this from a top-freezer layout.
- Door removal: Confirm whether doors must be removed for delivery and whether the retailer includes that service.

“Counter-depth” does not always mean flush
For a realistic finished projection, record four measurements: cabinet depth, depth with doors, depth with handles, and the depth required when the door is opened 90 degrees. Also check whether the refrigerator’s sides or hinges intrude into an adjacent wall or cabinet.
Water-line requirements
Water dispensers and icemakers require plumbing. Samsung states that models with icemakers or water dispensers require a working shutoff valve and a 1/4-inch stainless-steel water line within six feet on the same floor. Confirm the exact requirement for the model you buy and use a properly installed line; do not assume an existing plastic tube or distant valve is acceptable.
Garage installation
Not every refrigerator is designed to operate correctly in an unconditioned garage. Do not label the Frigidaire FFTR1425VW garage-ready without confirmation from Frigidaire. The older GE GTS22KGNRWW was explicitly marketed as garage-ready, but GE’s current page says that model is no longer manufactured. It should not be treated as a normal current 2026 recommendation merely because some review lists still include it.
Food-safety setup after installation
Do not rely solely on the refrigerator’s digital setting or an app reading. The FDA recommends keeping the refrigerator at 40°F or below and the freezer at 0°F. Place an inexpensive appliance thermometer in each compartment and allow the refrigerator to stabilize before loading it fully.
Follow the USDA’s refrigeration guidance for food storage and discard decisions. Temperature uniformity is one of the reasons measured testing matters: a display setting does not reveal whether a door bin or a shelf near the front is warmer than the main compartment.
What popular refrigerator lists often get wrong
They mix current and discontinued models
A model can remain in a testing database after its manufacturer has stopped producing it. The GE GTS22KGNRWW is a clear example: RTINGS lists it among its budget recommendations, while GE’s official page says it is no longer manufactured. Always cross-check the manufacturer’s product page, current retailer stock, replacement parts, and warranty support.
They treat retailer ratings as reliability evidence
Retailer reviews can reveal useful practical problems, but a high or low star rating does not equal a controlled reliability study. Delivery damage, installation quality, early ownership, and model-number confusion can dominate the review record.

Tom’s Guide names the GE Profile PFE28KYNFS its overall winner, while RTINGS names the Bosch 800 its best refrigerator. Those conclusions are not necessarily contradictory. Tom’s Guide emphasizes versatility, capacity, AutoFill, and consumer usability; RTINGS places more weight on controlled measurements, temperature stability, produce preservation, parts availability, and service coverage. The correct question is which criteria matter most to your household.
They confuse brand reliability with model testing
A Consumer Reports survey finding about LG or Samsung refrigerators is not a prediction that every current model will fail. Conversely, a strong test score on one Bosch model does not establish that every Bosch appliance has identical reliability. The evidence should always be labeled as exact-model testing, brand-level survey data, configuration-level data, or a manufacturer claim.
They equate advertised capacity with usable storage
Cubic feet can hide narrow shelves, a large ice compartment, awkward door bins, or inaccessible rear space. Look at shelf layout and actual storage measurements, especially when comparing a side-by-side with a French-door design.
They treat every new feature as an improvement
A display, camera, AI function, or additional ice mode may add convenience without improving temperature stability or food preservation. Smart functions can also depend on future app and cloud support. Unless the manufacturer promises a specific software-support period, assume that the refrigerator should remain useful as a cooling appliance even if its connected features eventually change.

They overstate testing that has not happened yet
Good Housekeeping’s 2026 article says it has tested more than 50 refrigerators overall, but its June 2026 note says it was still testing the Bosch 800 and planned to test certain GE Profile and Samsung models. Do not imply that those pending models had already received Good Housekeeping test results.
Final decision matrix
| If you want… | Choose… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best measured performance and premium serviceability | Bosch 800 B36CT80SNS | Best combination of temperature control, produce preservation, noise, parts availability, and service prospects, provided the smaller capacity works. |
| Maximum counter-depth capacity for the money | LG LRFLC2706S | 27 cubic feet, excellent temperature uniformity, and substantially lower pricing than Bosch. |
| Smart features, AutoFill, and dual ice | Samsung RF30BB6200QL | 30 cubic feet, strong lab results, pitcher convenience, Wi-Fi, and two ice formats. |
| Side-by-side access and a large freezer | Whirlpool WRS588FIHZ | Its freezer-capacity result is the strongest of the five, and exterior water and ice are convenient. |
| Lowest sensible purchase price for a small household | Frigidaire FFTR1425VW | Simple 13.9-cubic-foot top-freezer design, strong temperature uniformity, and current retail availability. |
| A standard-depth premium alternative | Bosch 500 B36FD52SNS | More capacity than the Bosch 800 with excellent measured noise and produce-preservation results. |
| A simple top-freezer with fewer failure points | Maytag MRT311FFFZ, subject to availability | Approximately 21 cubic feet, no water dispenser, and a simpler layout; current stock must be confirmed. |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most reliable refrigerator configuration in 2026?
There is no guarantee for any individual model, but simpler top-freezer refrigerators generally have fewer ice, dispenser, and electronic components to fail. Consumer Reports says top-freezers consistently receive some of its strongest predicted-reliability ratings. For a premium French-door refrigerator, the Bosch 800 has the strongest combination of measured performance, parts availability, and serviceability in this guide.
Is counter-depth worth the reduced capacity?
Counter-depth is worthwhile when reducing projection into a walkway and improving the built-in appearance are priorities. It is less suitable for a large household that bulk-shops or stores many wide containers. Measure the appliance with doors and handles, not just the cabinet, because counter-depth models can still project beyond the countertop.
Are exterior water and ice dispensers worth the risk?
They are convenient, but they add water valves, filters, electronics, dispenser mechanisms, and ice-making hardware. Consumer Reports identifies icemakers and water/ice dispensers as common refrigerator problem areas. Reliability-focused buyers may prefer an internal dispenser, an in-freezer icemaker, or no icemaker.

Can any of these refrigerators go in a garage?
Do not assume so. Verify garage suitability for the exact model with the manufacturer. The Frigidaire FFTR1425VW should not be called garage-ready without manufacturer confirmation. The older GE GTS22KGNRWW was marketed as garage-ready, but GE says it is no longer manufactured.
What temperature should a new refrigerator maintain?
The FDA recommends 40°F or below in the refrigerator and 0°F in the freezer. Use appliance thermometers to verify the actual temperature after installation rather than relying only on the display or app.
The Bottom Line
Choose the Bosch 800 B36CT80SNS if performance, produce preservation, and serviceability outweigh capacity and price. Choose the LG LRFLC2706S when a family needs the most counter-depth storage for the money. The Samsung is for feature-focused shoppers, the Whirlpool is for people committed to a side-by-side layout, and the Frigidaire is the practical answer for a small household or secondary kitchen. Before ordering any of them, verify the exact dimensions, delivery route, water connection, local service coverage, warranty terms, and current manufacturer status.
