The best kitchen gadget for most home cooks is a reliable instant-read thermometer: the ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE. It solves a frequent problem, takes almost no storage space, and improves both cooking results and food safety. For other jobs, the strongest 2026 choices are the Escali Primo food scale, Cosori Iconic air fryer, KitchenAid Artisan Plus stand mixer, KitchenAid KFP1318 food processor, Ninja CREAMi Deluxe, Anova Precision Cooker 3.0, and a few low-tech tools that are more useful than many connected appliances.
There is no single best kitchen gadget. A baker needs a different tool from a small-apartment cook, a meal-prepping family, or someone with limited hand strength. This guide separates those use cases, gives the main reason to buy and the main reason to skip each product, and includes model-specific prices, capacities, warranties, cleanup notes, app requirements, and safety qualifications.
Important testing note: This is an evidence-led 2026 guide. Product-level performance findings are attributed to the publication that conducted the testing, including Reviewed, Engadget, Good Housekeeping, Bon Appétit, and TechGearLab. Manufacturer specifications are identified as specifications, not independent test results. US prices and availability were checked or reported for August 10, 2026 and can change.

The list below is organized by job rather than by an artificial overall ranking. A $17 jar opener and a $600 stand mixer should not compete for the same title.
| Category | Pick | Best for | Price information | Main drawback |

How these recommendations were evaluated
Current coverage does not use one universal test protocol. Reviewed’s 2026 Kitchen and Cooking Awards, published June 24, 2026, draw on its category testing. Engadget’s 2026 guide, published January 26, reports recommendations based on products its team tested, reviewed, and used. Good Housekeeping’s 2026 Kitchen Awards describe testing 345 submissions in its labs and kitchens, feedback from more than 600 at-home testers, and evaluations of performance, ease of use, innovation, and consumer response. Its awards were published October 28, 2025, so price and stock require a fresh check.
Bon Appétit’s scale testing considered 16 models and included long-term use, while TechGearLab reports buying and testing hundreds of home and kitchen appliances, with category-specific work on sous vide machines and pizza ovens.
Those methods are useful evidence, but they are not interchangeable. Submission-based testing can miss products that manufacturers did not submit. A product award can emphasize innovation or accessibility while another test gives more weight to grind consistency, cleanup, or price. The recommendations here therefore use specific labels such as best for small kitchens, best for accessibility, or best for smooth blending rather than pretending that every household has the same winner.
What a meaningful kitchen test should include
| Product type | Useful measurements and trials |
|---|---|
| Thermometers | Ice-water and boiling-water checks, response time, display readability, probe placement, waterproofing, calibration, and battery replacement. |
| Scales | Accuracy at low and high weights, 1-to-5-gram sensitivity, taring, edge-of-platform performance, display visibility under a large bowl, cleanup, and auto-off behavior. |
| Air fryers | Preheat time, actual temperature, frozen fries, wings, vegetables, reheated food, evenness, noise, smoke, odor, basket cleanup, and counter clearance. |
| Blenders | Frozen fruit, greens, ice, nut-based sauces, hummus, hot liquids where permitted, small batches, noise, vibration, jar weight, and cleaning. |
| Food processors | Onion chopping, potato slicing, shredding, pesto, hummus, nut grinding, dough kneading, minimum usable batch, feed-tube design, blade storage, and food traps. |
| Stand mixers | Egg whites, creamed butter and sugar, chunky dough, dense bread dough, bowl coverage, movement, noise, motor heat, half-speed folding, and accessory cost. |
| Frozen-dessert machines | Freeze time, texture, re-spin requirements, low-sugar and high-protein bases, mix-ins, noise, tub storage, cleanup, and replacement-tub cost. |
| Sous vide | Temperature accuracy and stability, heating speed, clamp security, low-water behavior, app setup, app-free controls, cleaning, and storage. |
| Pizza ovens | Preheat and recovery time, browning across the stone, repeated pizzas, pizza size, smoke, ventilation, turning, portability, and non-pizza versatility. |
| Hand tools | Grip comfort, force required, one-handed use, wet and greasy hands, stability, precision, storage, durability, and dishwasher compatibility. |
Best instant-read thermometer: ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE
Buy it for: fast temperature checks on meat, bread, frying oil, candy, and leftovers. Skip it if: you specifically need a leave-in probe that monitors food inside an oven or grill.
Engadget recommends the Thermapen ONE for its rapid readings, auto-rotating display, auto-wake and sleep behavior, and IP67 water resistance. ThermoWorks specifies a one-second response, accuracy of ±0.5°F across part of its range, a NIST-traceable calibration certificate, a five-year warranty, and a measurement range of −58°F to 572°F. Those are manufacturer specifications, so they should not be treated as independent proof of accuracy.
Its real advantage is not that it adds a clever feature to the kitchen. It makes a high-frequency task quick enough that cooks are more likely to do it. The rotating display helps when the probe enters food from an awkward angle, and the compact format is easier to store than a leave-in system.
Recommended Free Tools
What to test before trusting any thermometer
- Place the probe in an ice-water slurry. The target is approximately 32°F.
- Check boiling water at your elevation. At sea level the target is approximately 212°F; altitude changes the result.
- Compare the center and edge of a thick food sample. Placement matters.
- Try the display with wet, greasy, and gloved hands.
- Test auto-wake, auto-rotation, cleaning, and battery replacement.
For food safety, the USDA recommends placing the probe in the thickest part, away from bone, fat, or gristle. Its general minimums include 145°F followed by a three-minute rest for whole cuts of beef, pork, lamb, and veal; 160°F for ground meats and eggs; and 165°F for poultry and leftovers. A thermometer cannot compensate for poor probe placement or an unsafe storage procedure.
Alternative: The Meater Pro is a different type of product: a wireless leave-in probe that tracks internal and ambient temperature through an app.
Best kitchen scale: Escali Primo Digital Food Scale
Buy it for: baking, portioning, coffee brewing on a budget, and any recipe where volume measurements are inconsistent. Skip it if: you need a backlit display, nutrition tracking, or sub-gram precision for espresso.
Bon Appétit tested 16 scales and named the Escali Primo its overall winner. Its reported strengths include an 11-pound capacity, 1-gram increments, compact dimensions, responsive taring, stable feet, and an elevated platform that helps keep the display visible. Bon Appétit also reports years of continued use, which is more useful than a short first-impression test.
The trade-off is simplicity. The display is not backlit, and 1-gram resolution is not the same as the finer measurement some coffee enthusiasts want. It is a straightforward kitchen scale rather than a connected appliance, which is also why it is easy to recommend for a first apartment or ordinary baking setup.
Lower-cost and premium alternatives
Amazon Basics Digital Kitchen Scale: Bon Appétit names it its budget pick. It has the same general 11-pound capacity and 1-gram resolution but was reported as slightly less accurate and less sealed around the buttons. Its price changes frequently, so check the current US listing on the day you buy.
Fellow Tally: This is the better choice for a coffee enthusiast who also bakes. Bon Appétit reports a built-in timer, brew-assist functions, several units, a 5.5-pound capacity, and an elevated platform. It is expensive for ordinary kitchen use and has less capacity than the Escali.
Scale tests that matter
- Check known weights or certified calibration weights at the center and edge of the platform.
- Test small additions from 1 to 5 grams.
- Tare repeatedly while adding flour, sugar, liquid, and oil.
- Use a large bowl that partially obscures the display.
- Leave flour and oil residue overnight, then test cleaning and button sealing.
- Measure the auto-off interval before using the scale for a long recipe.
Best innovative spice gadget: FinaMill Classic Rechargeable
Buy it for: one-handed grinding and switching between multiple dried spices without emptying one chamber. Skip it if: your priority is the quietest or most consistent fine pepper grind.
Reviewed named the FinaMill Smart Kitchen Mill its 2026 Best Kitchen Gadget, citing one-handed operation, interchangeable pods, and rechargeable power. The current FinaMill rechargeable model lists an $89.99 price, USB-C charging, an everyday pod, a pepper pod, and a one-year warranty that can be extended to two years by registering the product. The manufacturer claims three to four months of use per charge.
This is a case where the negative evidence matters. Reviewed’s award coverage reported clogging, noise, and weak fine-grind performance as drawbacks. In a separate pepper-mill test, Reviewed found that the FinaMill underperformed other grinders, although its pod-swapping design was useful for people who need one-handed operation.
The honest verdict is therefore best for accessibility and spice switching, not best overall pepper mill. Do not confuse the current rechargeable model with older battery-powered versions. FinaMill says its pods are for dried herbs and spices, not fresh herbs; the current grater pod is intended for hard spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon.

What to test
Run coarse, medium, and fine pepper, then try salt, coriander, cumin, dried chili, and dried herbs. Test pod swapping with wet or greasy hands, cross-contamination between spices, clogging, noise, and the time needed to grind a measured amount. Use nutmeg or cinnamon only with the appropriate grater pod.

Buy it for: cooks who want a large air-fryer basket, crisp food, dishwasher-safe removable parts, and smart controls. Skip it if: you have limited counter space, dislike fingerprints, or want the cheapest route to air-fried food.
Reviewed named the Cosori Iconic its 2026 Best Air Fryer after evaluating crisping, browning, cleanup, noise, smart functions, and indoor-air considerations. Its reported weaknesses were a noticeable first-use smell, visible fingerprints, and a premium price.
Cosori lists the current model as a 6.5-quart stainless-steel air fryer with a ceramic-coated basket and crisper plate, six cooking functions, app control, dishwasher-safe removable parts, a $249 retail price, and a five-year limited warranty. The warranty qualification is important: the five-year coverage applies to the base unit but excludes the basket, crisper plate, and silicone feet.

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer: A better fit if you want one appliance to serve as a toaster oven, air fryer, and auxiliary oven. It is larger than a drawer-style air fryer, so measure the counter and overhead clearance first.
Martha Stewart French Door Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo: Reviewed’s 2026 countertop air-fryer-toaster-oven pick. Reviewed reports a 34-quart capacity and 12 cooking modes, but also a large footprint and more complicated controls.
Air-fryer tests and safety
Use frozen fries, chicken wings, fresh vegetables, reheated pizza, and leftovers. Record preheat time, basket temperature, crispness, browning, whether shaking is necessary, noise, smoke, and cleanup after oil, breading, and melted cheese. Measure the clearance needed to open the basket and whether the appliance can be stored safely.
The USDA describes air fryers as countertop convection ovens and recommends checking air-fried meat and poultry with a food thermometer. It specifically warns that raw stuffed breaded chicken products should not be cooked in an air fryer unless the manufacturer’s instructions say otherwise.
Best stand mixer: KitchenAid Artisan Plus
Buy it for: frequent bakers who want a tilt-head mixer, a broad attachment ecosystem, and more control over delicate mixing. Skip it if: you bake only occasionally, have little storage space, or cannot justify a premium mixer.
Reviewed named the KitchenAid Artisan Plus its 2026 Best Stand Mixer. Its reported strengths include an integrated bowl light, precision speed control, a double-flex-edge beater, a half-speed setting, and the wider KitchenAid attachment ecosystem. Its disadvantages include weight, storage difficulty, a premium tilt-head price, and separately sold attachments.
KitchenAid lists the Artisan Plus as a 5-quart tilt-head mixer with 11 speeds, precision speed control, an integrated bowl light, a double-flex-edge beater, stainless-steel accessories, Soft Start, and a half-speed fold setting. The product page checked lists $599.99. Do not casually substitute the older Artisan Series 5-Quart for the newer Artisan Plus: the 2026 Reviewed award is for the updated model.
How to test a stand mixer
- Whip egg whites and check the stability and volume of the foam.
- Cream butter and sugar, looking for unmixed material on the bowl sides.
- Mix chunky cookie dough without excessive movement.
- Knead dense bread dough and check counter movement, noise, and motor heat.
- Use the half-speed setting with delicate ingredients.
- Check whether the bowl light improves visibility and whether included accessories are stainless steel and dishwasher-safe.
Alternative: The standard KitchenAid Artisan may be the better value if you do not need the bowl light and precision-control upgrades. Engadget continues to recommend the broader Artisan series, particularly for its attachment ecosystem.

Buy it for: chopping, slicing, shredding, pesto, hummus, nut grinding, and larger food-preparation batches. Skip it if: most of your cooking involves smoothies, soups, or very small portions.
Reviewed named the KFP1318 its 2026 Best Food Processor after testing chopping, almond grinding, pesto, hummus, setup, cleanup, and speed control. Its reported weakness is that dough kneading requires attention.
A food processor and blender are not interchangeable. Food processors are generally the more useful tool for slicing, shredding, chopping, emulsifying, and dough work. Blenders are better suited to smooth liquids, smoothies, soups, and fine purées. A 13-cup bowl provides useful capacity but may be inefficient for a few tablespoons of food, so test both small and full batches.
Recommended processor test
Process onions for even dice, slice potatoes and cucumbers, shred cheese or vegetables, grind almonds, and make hummus and pesto. Then knead bread dough and observe whether the machine walks or needs intervention. Check the feed tube, lid lock, blade storage, sharp-edge handling, food traps, dishwasher instructions, and minimum usable batch size.

Best blender: KitchenAid Pure Power versus Vitamix Explorian
Choose the KitchenAid Pure Power if you value preset programs, hot-and-cold blending capability, and a feature-rich design. Choose the Vitamix Explorian if your priority is established performance with frozen produce, nuts, sauces, batters, and soups.
There is a legitimate disagreement in current testing. Reviewed named the KitchenAid Pure Power Blender its 2026 Best Blender and reports a 1,700-watt peak motor, asymmetrical stainless-steel blades, 10 speed settings plus pulse, hot-and-cold blending capability, and preset programs. Engadget continues to recommend the Vitamix Explorian, emphasizing its results with frozen produce, nuts, dried fruit, sauces, batters, and soups.
Do not resolve this by averaging two rankings. Use the same recipes in both machines: a smoothie containing frozen fruit and leafy greens, nut butter or a nut-based sauce, hummus, ice, and a hot soup only when the manufacturer’s instructions permit it. Compare particle size, small-batch performance, noise, vibration, jar weight, lid removal, blade cleaning, and whether a tamper is needed. The more useful winner labels are smoothest blend, best for hot soup, best for family batches, best for small kitchens, and best-established ecosystem.
Best frozen-dessert machine: Ninja CREAMi Deluxe NC501

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEngadget recommends the Ninja CREAMi because it takes less space than traditional ice-cream makers, is easy to operate, and supports a wide range of desserts. The primary downside is noise. The current Ninja CREAMi Deluxe NC501 page specifies 24-ounce XL tubs, 11 one-touch programs, 12 automatic programs in its technical details, dishwasher-safe parts, 800 watts, and a one-year warranty. The page checked listed $279.98, reduced from $329.98.
The CREAMi does not churn a liquid base in the traditional way. You generally prepare and freeze the base in advance, then process it. Some recipes require a re-spin to reach a creamy texture. Test standard ice cream, low-sugar or high-protein bases, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and mix-ins such as chocolate, nuts, or fruit. Measure noise, tub storage, freezer footprint, cleanup, and replacement-tub cost.
Do not mix up CREAMi models
Original CREAMi models, CREAMi Deluxe, and Ninja Swirl are different products. Ninja says the Deluxe tubs are compatible with the NC500 series and not with older NC100, NC200, NC299, or NC300 models. Ninja Swirl is larger and more expensive, with soft-serve programs and a 13-program system. Check the model number before ordering replacement tubs or accessories.

The Nano is the more sensible option for a smaller kitchen or occasional use; the full-size model should heat larger water baths faster, but verify performance for your container.
Sous vide is not a food-safety shortcut. You still need a suitable pot or container, heat-safe bags, adequate circulation, and proper chilling and storage if food is not served immediately. Many meats also benefit from a final sear. - Escali Primo: the practical everyday scale for weighing ingredients.
- KitchenAid Artisan Plus: the premium choice for regular dough and batter work.
- Fellow Tally: the coffee-and-baking crossover if its timer and brew-assist features justify the price.
For meal preppers
- KitchenAid KFP1318: useful for large amounts of chopping, slicing, shredding, and dips.
- Cosori Iconic: useful for quick batches, provided its footprint fits the kitchen.
- Souper Cubes: the low-tech option for freezing measured portions.
For cooks with limited hand strength
- OXO Jar Opener: stabilizes the jar and reduces the need to hold it with the other hand.
- FinaMill rechargeable: one-handed spice grinding and easy pod switching, with the caveat that fine grinding is not its strongest area.
- Thermapen ONE: a fast, compact tool that avoids the setup of a wireless probe.
For small kitchens
Start with tools that are easy to store: a thermometer, scale, jar opener, and perhaps a FinaMill. If you need an appliance, decide whether it will replace another appliance rather than simply add one. A toaster-oven-style air fryer can replace several countertop functions but occupies more space; a drawer-style air fryer may be easier to store but less versatile. The Ninja CREAMi is compact relative to a traditional ice-cream maker, but it still needs freezer room for its tubs. The Anova Nano is a more space-conscious sous vide option than the full Precision Cooker 3.0.
For entertaining
- Drinkmate OmniFizz: for carbonating more than water.
- Stanley Tucci pizza oven: for flexible pizza cooking where ventilation and clearance are appropriate.
- Ninja CREAMi or Swirl: for frozen desserts if you will prepare bases and freeze them ahead of time.
What to check before buying any kitchen gadget
1. Measure the complete installation footprint
Measure width, depth, height, cord reach, lid travel, basket clearance, and the space needed above a hot appliance. A product that fits with its lid closed may not fit when the lid, hopper, bowl, or basket is open. Also record weight if the appliance will be moved into a cabinet after every use. The 46-pound Stanley Tucci oven and a full-size stand mixer need a different storage plan from a thermometer or scale.
2. Price the ownership, not just the box
Include CO₂ cylinders for Drinkmate, replacement tubs for CREAMi, heat-safe bags for sous vide, batteries, filters if applicable, proprietary attachments, seals, probes, baskets, crisper plates, and shipping. A sale price can be temporary, and a low purchase price can become expensive when replacement parts are unavailable.
3. Treat cleanup as a performance category
Count removable parts and identify food traps, grease buildup, drying time, brushes, and sharp blades that must be hand-washed. Dishwasher-safe usually applies only to specified removable accessories—not motor bases, heating elements, displays, probes, seals, or every blade and nonstick part. Always follow the exact manual.

4. Be skeptical of smart features
Check whether the app is optional, whether it requires an account, whether it works on both major mobile platforms, whether the appliance remains useful without Wi-Fi, and whether cloud support is essential. Test pairing, alerts, remote monitoring, and recovery after a lost connection. Wi-Fi, voice control, lighting, and recipe libraries are not benefits unless they improve a task you actually perform.
5. Read materials claims narrowly
Terms such as PFAS-free, non-toxic, food-safe, BPA-free, and antimicrobial do not all mean the same thing. Cosori says the Iconic’s basket and crisper plate use a PFAS-free ceramic coating. The FDA explains that some PFAS-containing substances have authorized food-contact uses and discusses the migration of polymerized nonstick coatings in its PFAS questions and answers. Attribute the manufacturer’s exact claim to the exact component; do not turn it into a blanket statement that a product is categorically safer or healthier.
6. Verify the exact model and warranty
KitchenAid Artisan and Artisan Plus are not the same product. Ninja CREAMi, CREAMi Deluxe, and Swirl use different tubs and programs. Anova Precision Cooker 3.0 and Nano 3.0 have different wattage and size. FinaMill has older battery-powered and current rechargeable models. Cosori Iconic should not be confused with older Cosori models or with unrelated variants. Retail listings may show a different capacity, bundle, color, or updated model than the review you read.
Warranty duration also needs context. For example, Cosori’s five-year Iconic warranty excludes the basket, crisper plate, and silicone feet. A warranty is not proof that a product will last for five years, and a long warranty is less useful if replacement parts are unavailable.
Safety and recall checks
Check the model and serial number against the CPSC recall database and the manufacturer’s recall page immediately before purchase and again if you buy used. Brand reputation is not a substitute for checking a specific model.

The CPSC recalled Panasonic NB-G200 toaster ovens on July 16, 2026, citing shock and fire hazards and instructing consumers to stop using them. The CPSC also recalled approximately 1.8 million SharkNinja Foodi OP300-series pressure cookers in 2025 after reports that the pressure-cooking lid could open during use, creating a burn hazard. These examples are why old best-of lists should not be reused without checking the exact model.
- Use a food thermometer rather than color or appearance to judge doneness.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for hot liquids in blenders and for maximum fill levels.
- Keep air fryers, ovens, and pizza ovens away from combustible materials and provide the required clearance.
- Never assume a pressure cooker is safe because the brand is familiar; check the model number and lid instructions.
- Do not immerse motor bases, displays, electrical connectors, or heating elements unless the manual explicitly permits it.
- Check that bags, bottles, trays, probes, and containers are rated for the temperature and food-contact use required.
Gadgets we would not buy automatically
Not every award-winning or highly connected product is a good purchase for every kitchen. Be cautious with any gadget that performs one minor task only slightly better than an existing tool, requires several proprietary accessories, has difficult cleanup, cannot operate without an app, or occupies substantial counter space for occasional use.
The FinaMill illustrates why a negative qualification matters: its accessibility and pod system are compelling, but its fine pepper performance is not the reason to buy it. The CREAMi is excellent for people who want frozen desserts but not for someone who will resent freezing bases and washing tubs. A pizza oven can produce impressive results while still being the wrong choice for a small kitchen. A premium stand mixer is valuable to a regular baker but wasteful if it will be used twice a year.
Final buying checklist
- Write down the cooking problem the gadget must solve.
- Estimate how often you will use it in a normal month.
- Measure the storage and operating footprint.
- Confirm the exact model number, capacity, included accessories, and US availability.
- Record the current price and whether it is a temporary sale or bundle.
- Calculate recurring costs for CO₂, bags, tubs, filters, batteries, and replacement parts.
- Check whether the core controls work without an app or account.
- Read which parts are actually dishwasher-safe.
- Review the full warranty, including exclusions.
- Check the CPSC database and manufacturer recall page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the single most useful kitchen gadget?
For most home cooks, an instant-read thermometer such as the ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE is the strongest single choice. It is useful for meat, poultry, leftovers, bread, frying, and candy, takes little storage space, and supports safer cooking. It is not a replacement for a leave-in oven probe.
Are kitchen gadgets worth buying?
The useful ones solve a repeated problem measurably better than an existing tool. A thermometer, scale, jar opener, food processor, or air fryer can earn its space through frequent use. A gadget that performs one occasional task, needs proprietary consumables, or is difficult to clean is less likely to be worthwhile.
Is an air fryer better than a toaster oven?
Neither is universally better. A basket air fryer is often convenient for crisping small or medium batches. A toaster-oven-style air fryer can handle broader tasks and larger foods but occupies more counter space and may have more complicated controls. Compare capacity, clearance, cleanup, and the food you actually cook.
Do I need a food processor if I already have a blender?
Not necessarily. A blender is better for smoothies, soups, and very smooth purées. A food processor is better for chopping, slicing, shredding, pesto, hummus, emulsions, and many dough tasks. If you mostly make liquids, keep the blender; if you prep vegetables or large batches, a food processor adds capabilities.

Is the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe worth the freezer space?
It is worthwhile for people who regularly want homemade ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, protein desserts, or mix-ins and are willing to freeze bases in advance. It is loud and requires storage for 24-ounce tubs. Check compatibility before buying replacement tubs because Deluxe containers do not fit every older CREAMi model.
Do smart kitchen appliances need Wi-Fi?
Many do not need Wi-Fi for their core cooking functions, but some app features may depend on it. Before buying, confirm whether an account is required, whether physical controls remain available, whether alerts work offline, and what happens if the manufacturer discontinues cloud support.
Are PFAS-free kitchen coatings automatically safer?
No broad safety conclusion should be drawn from that phrase alone. Identify which component the claim covers and distinguish the manufacturer’s wording from independent evidence. The FDA explains that food-contact uses and migration depend on the substance and conditions.
What are the best kitchen gadgets for a small space?
Start with compact, high-use tools: the Thermapen ONE, Escali Primo scale, OXO jar opener, and possibly the FinaMill. If you add an appliance, choose one that replaces another tool or is used several times a week. Measure the operating footprint, not just the stored dimensions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhich kitchen gadgets are easiest to clean?
Low-tech tools such as a scale, thermometer, jar opener, and freezer tray generally have fewer food traps than appliances. Among appliances, compare the number of removable parts, dishwasher instructions, seals, blades, baskets, and drying time. Dishwasher-safe should always be interpreted as applying only to the specified parts.
What should I buy for less than $25?
The OXO Good Grips Jar Opener with Base Pad was listed at $16.99 on OXO’s product page checked. It is a practical choice for reducing the grip and twisting required to open jars and needs no batteries or app. Verify the current price before ordering.
The Bottom Line
The best kitchen gadgets of 2026 are the ones that solve a repeated problem without creating a new one in storage, cleanup, safety, or recurring cost. Start with a thermometer and scale if you need dependable basics. Add the Cosori Iconic for frequent air-frying, the KitchenAid Artisan Plus for serious baking, the KFP1318 for batch prep, the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe for planned frozen desserts, or the Anova Precision Cooker 3.0 for temperature-controlled cooking. For many households, however, the most successful purchases will be the inexpensive tools: a jar opener, a kitchen scale, or a freezer tray that gets used every week.
Before checkout, verify the exact model, current US price, warranty exclusions, replacement parts, app requirements, and recall status. Those details matter more than an extra preset or a promise that a gadget is smart.
