The OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Adjustable Potato Ricer is the best potato ricer for most cooks: Food Network named it Best Overall after testing it with almost 50 pounds of potatoes. Its three texture settings, comfortable rounded handles and pot rest make it a versatile potato ricer for mashed potatoes. For less hand effort, choose the Joseph Joseph Helix; for a compact, lower-cost option, consider OXO’s stainless-steel model.
Our top three potato ricers
| Pick | Best for | What stands out | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Adjustable Potato Ricer | Best overall | Three built-in textures, rounded handles, grooved pot rest | Potato can collect between the rotating plates |
| Joseph Joseph Helix Potato Ricer | Ergonomics and reduced squeezing effort | Twist-action mechanism converts rotation into pressing force | Texture settings and capacity are not stated in the cited tests |
| OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Potato Ricer | Value and compact storage | Lightweight, compact, smooth puree; detachable bottom disk | Underside of the handle can feel uncomfortable |
These award names and observations come from Food Network’s September 24, 2026 review, which tested ricers with nearly 50 pounds of potatoes; the Helix’s mechanism and dishwasher-safe split design are also described in Cambom’s September 2026 comparison. Best overall: OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Adjustable Potato Ricer
For a dependable all-around OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Adjustable Potato Ricer, the most useful feature is control: three built-in textures let you choose how finely the potato is pressed. Food Network’s testers also liked its rounded handles and grooved rest, which helps support the tool over a pot. The parts are dishwasher-safe.
The main drawback is cleanup around the rotating plates, where potato particles can get trapped. It remains the strongest choice if you want one ricer for different potato textures rather than a specialized low-effort mechanism. Food Network listed its price at approximately $40; that is a checked-date snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or stock status.

Food Network’s price snapshot was about $25; Cambom listed $24.95 on September 28, 2026. Prices and availability change, so check the retailer listing before buying. The cited reviews do not establish comparative capacity or texture settings for this model.

Best compact potato ricer: OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel
The OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Potato Ricer is Food Network’s Best Value pick. Testers found it lightweight and compact and reported smooth, largely lump-free puree. Epicurious notes that its bottom disk detaches easily and that it is safe for the top rack of a dishwasher.
The compromise is comfort: Food Network found the underside of the handle uncomfortable. Its listed price was approximately $35 in that review, so treat that as a snapshot rather than a current quote. Choose it when storage space and value matter more than having adjustable textures.

How Food Network tested the ricers
Food Network’s Taylor Murray reports, “After pressing almost 50 pounds of potatoes, we discovered the best ricers on the market.” Its process included boiling unpeeled potatoes, repeating the test with peeled potatoes, adding butter and milk for tasting, recording hand comfort and ease of use, and cleaning each ricer according to the manufacturer’s instructions. That provides a practical basis for comparing texture, handling and cleanup, although the resulting awards are the publication’s test judgments rather than a universal ranking.
The 2026 awards also included Williams Sonoma Prep Tools as Best Splurge and Norpro Deluxe Jumbo as Best Large-Capacity. They are relevant alternatives if premium construction or fewer batches matters more than the three picks above; Food Network’s listed price snapshots were approximately $80 and $58, respectively. The review did not provide comparable capacity figures in the information cited here.
Rank #4
- Perfect for making smooth, fluffy mashed potatoes
- Durable stainless steel body with soft handles; Dishwasher safe
- Nonslip knob holds Ricer in place over bowl or pot
- Also great for ricing carrots, cauliflower, yams and baby food
What to consider when choosing a potato ricer
- Hand force and grip: A direct press may suit cooks comfortable with a firm squeeze; the Helix is designed to use a rotating action instead.
- Texture control: An adjustable model such as the OXO 3-in-1 offers more than one built-in texture. The cited reviews do not establish settings for every model.
- Capacity and storage: Larger-capacity tools can reduce the need to cut potatoes or work in batches, but take more room to store. Confirm the actual basket capacity on a current product listing before purchase.
- Cleanup: Check whether parts separate and whether the manufacturer permits dishwasher cleaning. Even dishwasher-safe ricers can have crevices where potato residue collects.
- Material and price: Compare construction and current retailer prices directly; published price figures here are dated snapshots, not fixed prices.
Is a potato ricer good for gnocchi?
A potato ricer for gnocchi is useful when you want finely pressed potato rather than a chunky mash. The OXO 3-in-1’s texture selection makes it the most flexible of these three recommendations for that purpose. Avoid assuming that any ricer eliminates lumps automatically: potato preparation and the chosen texture still matter, and the cited tests do not compare finished gnocchi made with each model.
