The $179 Roomba Deal Is Real—but It May Not Be the Cheapest Roomba

The Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo is marked down to $179.99, but it may not be iRobot’s cheapest new Roomba. Here’s how it compares with the cheaper Roomba 105 Combo and dock-equipped alternatives.

Quick answer: The Roomba advertised for $179.99 is the Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo Robot. But it may not be the cheapest new Roomba: iRobot has also listed the simpler Roomba 105 Combo Robot for $169.99. Prices and stock can change, so check the exact model and checkout total before buying.

What the $179 Roomba deal includes

iRobot listed the Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo Robot at $179.99, reduced from a displayed reference price of $469.99. The 205 is a robot vacuum and mop, and its defining feature is DustCompactor technology, which is designed to compress collected debris inside the robot.

That is not the same as an external AutoEmpty dock. The $179.99 listing identifies the robot itself and does not advertise a conventional self-emptying dock. See iRobot’s price-sorted new-arrivals listing for the surfaced offer.

Is the Roomba 205 really the cheapest?

Not consistently. An official iRobot product grid also showed the Roomba 105 Combo Robot at $169.99, making it cheaper than the 205. However, iRobot’s deals page showed that same 105 Combo at $199.99. That discrepancy means the cheapest model depends on the live promotion, inventory and checkout price.

Roomba 205 versus Roomba 105 Combo

Roomba 105 Combo: lowest-price candidate

The Roomba 105 Combo is the better candidate for the title “cheapest Roomba” when it is available at $169.99. It is a basic vacuum-and-mop model, so it may suit shoppers who simply want automated floor maintenance at the lowest entry price.

Its lower price does not prove that it is inferior in every respect. The meaningful distinction supported by the listings is that the 205 prominently adds DustCompactor technology, while the 105 is the simpler Combo configuration.

  • NO MORE SCRUBBING DRIED‑ON MESSES. SmartScrub applies extra pressure exactly where messes are stubborn—breaking down dried food, muddy paw prints, and kitchen splatter, so you never have to scrub by hand again.
  • REACHES THE PLACES DIRT USUALLY HIDES. A 46% slimmer design* fits under more furniture, while extending brushes pull debris from edges and corners—so dust doesn’t collect where traditional robots miss. *Compared to Roomba 105
  • GREAT FOR HOMES WITH PETS. Tangle‑free rubber brushes capture pet fur without clogging, eliminating constant stops to cut hair off the brush.
  • EVERY CLEAN STARTS WITH A FRESH MOP—NOT YESTERDAY’S DIRT. The AutoWash Dock washes and heat‑dries mop pads at 113°F after every run, preventing odors and buildup so floors aren’t cleaned with yesterday’s dirt.

Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo: worth the extra $10?

At $179.99, the 205 costs only $10 more than the 105’s lowest surfaced price. That premium may make sense if compressing debris inside the robot is useful in your home. It still does not eliminate the need to understand how often the robot must be manually serviced, because DustCompactor is different from an external AutoEmpty system.

Neither model should be assumed to include advanced mapping, obstacle avoidance, room-by-room controls, long battery life or strong pet-hair performance without checking its current product specification page. No independent performance test is established by the available pricing evidence.

  • CLEARVIEW PRO LIDAR. Expertly maps your home for maximum coverage and thorough cleaning, day or night- Plus, specialized sensors prevent your Roomba robot from tumbling down stairs.
  • PRECISIONVISION AI TECHNOLOGY. Immediately recognizes and swiftly navigates around objects of all shapes and sizes, including cords, socks, and pet waste.
  • UP TO 75 DAYS HANDS-FREE CLEANING. AutoEmpty Dock traps and contains debris as small as 0.7 microns in an enclosed bag, keeping you dust cloud-free for 75 days.

What you give up at this price

  • No advertised external AutoEmpty dock: the $179.99 205 listing is for the DustCompactor Combo robot, not a dock-equipped package.
  • More hands-on maintenance: compared with a dock-equipped model, you should expect to handle debris yourself unless the exact product documentation says otherwise.
  • Basic mopping: a low-cost Combo robot should not be treated as equivalent to a premium system with automatic mop washing, drying or water refilling.
  • Potentially fewer premium controls: verify navigation, maps, no-go zones, carpet behavior and room targeting on the model’s own page rather than assuming they are included.
  • Ongoing consumables: filters, brushes and mop pads may add to the ownership cost. iRobot lists replacement accessories through its shop.

Which Roomba should you buy?

Choose the 105 Combo if:

  • It is still available at $169.99.
  • You want the lowest-cost new Roomba.
  • You need both vacuuming and basic mopping.
  • You are comfortable with a simpler robot and manual maintenance.

Choose the 205 DustCompactor Combo if:

  • The 105 is unavailable or costs more than the 205.
  • You want vacuuming and mopping plus the 205’s advertised DustCompactor feature.
  • You live in a smaller home or apartment and can empty or maintain the robot yourself.
  • You value a low purchase price more than hands-off operation.

Pay more for an AutoEmpty model if:

  • You dislike emptying a robot’s dustbin.
  • You want a vacuum-only setup with an external dock; iRobot listed the Roomba 105 Vac Robot + AutoEmpty Dock at $279.99.
  • You want vacuuming, mopping and external debris disposal; the Roomba 105 Combo Robot + AutoEmpty Dock was listed at $299.99.
  • You are specifically seeking automatic mop washing, drying or water management. A Roomba Plus 405 Combo + AutoWash Dock was surfaced at $399.99 on one deals page, but its displayed pricing requires live confirmation.

Check these details before ordering

  1. Confirm the exact model name. Roomba 105 Combo, Roomba 105 Combo + AutoEmpty Dock and Roomba 105 Vac + AutoEmpty Dock are different packages.
  2. Check the live price and stock. iRobot pages showed different prices for the 105 Combo, and category pages can lag behind product or checkout pages.
  3. Confirm what is in the box. Do not assume a $179.99 Combo listing includes an AutoEmpty dock.
  4. Calculate the final total. Prices are before applicable sales tax, and shipping terms can vary by location and order.
  5. Review returns and warranty coverage. iRobot advertises a 60-day home trial on its direct shop pages, subject to its terms.
  6. Check discounts carefully. iRobot advertises 10% off a first purchase for new email subscribers, but says the offer applies to list price and cannot be combined with other promotions.
  7. Estimate replacement costs. Check current prices for filters, brushes and mop pads before deciding that the lowest upfront price is the lowest long-term cost.

Shipping promotions may have continental-U.S. restrictions and may exclude Alaska, Hawaii, PO boxes or APO/FPO addresses. Review the terms on the live offer page.

Bottom line

The $179 Roomba deal is genuine as a surfaced iRobot promotion for the Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo Robot at $179.99. But the 205 should not be called the cheapest Roomba without checking live availability: iRobot also listed the Roomba 105 Combo at $169.99. Buy the 205 if its DustCompactor feature matters and the 105 is unavailable or more expensive. Otherwise, the 105 Combo is the stronger cheapest-Roomba candidate. If your priority is avoiding manual emptying, skip both basic packages and consider an AutoEmpty model.
