Best of CES 2025: Roborock Saros Z70 Turns a Robot Vacuum Into a Clutter-Picking Assistant

The Saros Z70’s robotic arm is genuinely innovative, but limited. Here’s what it can move, how its vacuuming compares, and who should buy it.

The Roborock Saros Z70 earned its CES 2025 spotlight for a reason: it is a premium robot vacuum and mop with a retractable, five-axis OmniGrip mechanical arm. The arm can identify and relocate some small, lightweight objects, including supported socks, tissues, slippers and small towels.

That makes the Z70 a genuine step beyond robot vacuums that only navigate around clutter—but it does not make the machine a general-purpose household robot. Its arm is limited by object type, weight, position, software and destination setup. Independent testing also found weaker carpet and deep-cleaning performance than the best conventional flagships. For most buyers, the Saros 10R is the more sensible choice; the Z70 makes sense mainly for hard-floor homes where lightweight clutter is a recurring problem.

What is the Roborock Saros Z70?

The Saros Z70 is Roborock’s premium robot vacuum-and-mop platform, launched at CES in January 2025 and subsequently released in the United States and Australia in May 2025. Its defining feature is the foldable OmniGrip arm, which retracts into the robot when it is not in use.

The rest of the machine is a high-end cleaning system. It combines autonomous vacuuming and mopping with StarSight navigation, obstacle avoidance, a low-profile chassis, edge-cleaning hardware, dual anti-tangle features and a multifunction dock that can automatically empty dust, wash and dry mop pads, and handle detergent.

Roborock lists the robot at 350 × 353 × 79.8 mm—approximately 13.78 × 13.9 × 3.14 inches—and the dock at 381 × 475 × 488 mm. The claimed robot height is 7.98 cm, although RTINGS measured the front section at about 8.04 cm. That difference is small, but furniture clearance should be measured at home rather than assumed from the headline specification.

Why the Z70 stood out at CES 2025

Most robot vacuums are designed to avoid objects. The Saros Z70 attempts to do something more ambitious: recognize an object, decide whether it can handle it, pick it up, and move it out of the way or toward a designated location.

Roborock described the Z70 in its launch materials as the first mass-produced robot vacuum with a foldable, five-axis robotic arm. That “first” is a company or launch claim rather than an independently audited industry designation, but the underlying distinction is real. The Z70 demonstrated a possible next stage for domestic robots: physical task completion rather than autonomous movement alone.

The CES demonstrations suggested a robot that could clean up ordinary floor clutter. The shipping product is more narrowly capable. The arm should be understood as an early household-manipulation feature, not as a replacement for picking up everything before a cleaning run.

What the OmniGrip arm actually does

When enabled and configured in the Roborock app, the arm can attempt to:

  • Detect supported small objects using the robot’s cameras and sensors.
  • Extend from its storage compartment.
  • Grip and lift an object within reach.
  • Move it to a user-designated location.
  • Clear selected objects that interfere with a cleaning route.
  • Place items such as tissues or small towels in a designated clutter area.
  • Move shoes or socks toward configured zones.

Roborock says users can label up to 50 additional custom objects through the app, alongside its pre-programmed object library. The company also says the system can detect and bypass objects as small as 2 × 2 cm under internal testing, but that is not the same as saying the arm can pick up every object of that size.

Recognition and manipulation depend on lighting, object position, floor surface, shape, texture, reachability and software support. A custom object may be recognized without being suitable for gripping, transporting or depositing.

What can it lift?

Brand and third-party coverage cite a maximum lifting capability of approximately 300 grams (0.66 pounds). Treat that as a rated or reported maximum, not a guarantee of successful pickup. An object under 300 grams may still be too flat, slippery, soft, oddly shaped, obstructed or difficult to approach.

In practical terms, the arm is intended for relatively small, lightweight items. WIRED reported that Roborock had confirmed categories including socks, small towels, tissues and slippers, subject to size and weight limitations at the time of review.

The arm should not be used for:

  • Heavy, large or bulky household objects.
  • Glass, nails, stones, construction debris or other hard and sharp items.
  • Cords and cables.
  • Wet, burning, smoking, hot, flammable or explosive materials.
  • Hazardous substances or objects that could damage the robot.
  • Items wedged beneath furniture or trapped against another object.
  • Anything that cannot be held securely without slipping or tearing.

Roborock’s manual specifically warns against sharp, hazardous, burning, smoking, flammable and explosive objects. Keep children and pets away from moving parts, and never place fingers, loose clothing or animals near the arm.

How the arm works in a real cleaning routine

The Z70 does not necessarily stop every time it sees clutter. It can identify an object during one pass and return to it later, allowing the main cleaning route to continue. That behavior is more efficient than interrupting the entire run, but it also means the robot may not immediately remove an item that appears to be blocking a path.

Users must configure object handling and destinations in the app. A typical setup is:

  1. Install the Roborock app and connect the robot to the home network.
  2. Complete the initial mapping run.
  3. Let the robot identify rooms, floors, carpets and obstacles.
  4. Enable the obstacle-management or OmniGrip-related function where available.
  5. Choose supported object categories or add custom objects.
  6. Assign destinations such as a clutter box, shoe area or laundry area.
  7. Test the process under supervision with lightweight, harmless objects.
  8. Check that the approach route, carrying route and destination are clear.
  9. Use a no-go zone or disable the arm feature in areas where it repeatedly fails.

The robot may fail to recognize an object, recognize it but be unable to reach it, grip it and drop it, return it to the floor, place it somewhere inconvenient, or abandon the attempt. A threshold, inaccessible destination or poorly configured zone can prevent the larger task from being completed even when the initial pickup works.

Core vacuum, mop and navigation features

22,000 Pa suction

Roborock advertises 22,000 Pa HyperForce suction. This is a manufacturer specification, not proof that the Z70 cleans better than every lower-rated vacuum. Real-world pickup also depends on airflow, brush design, agitation, sealing, navigation and floor type. Vacuum Wars measured lower intake suction than the Saros 10R despite the Z70’s higher official Pa figure.

Low-profile chassis

The slim body is designed to reach beneath furniture, but the arm’s front section is the relevant clearance point. Measure the gap beneath sofas, cabinets and beds before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Navigation and obstacle avoidance

StarSight navigation and front-mounted sensing help the Z70 map rooms and avoid obstacles. Obstacle avoidance is useful, but it does not make cords, toys, cables or hazardous clutter safe for unattended cleaning. The arm also cannot reliably solve every clutter problem.

Mopping and dock automation

The dock automatically collects dust and washes and dries mop pads, reducing daily maintenance. It is a large appliance, however, so check the dock dimensions and provide a hard, flat installation surface with adequate clearance. Consumables—including dust bags, filters, mop cloths, brushes and cleaning solution—remain part of ownership.

Real-world cleaning performance

The Z70’s ordinary cleaning ability should be judged separately from its arm. Independent reviews generally found strong hard-floor cleaning, capable mopping, useful navigation and extensive dock automation. Those strengths make it a sophisticated robot vacuum even if the arm is ignored.

  • 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: With 22,000 Pa HyperForce suction, the Roborock Saros 10R effortlessly removes dirt, hair, and debris from all floor types, including hardwood, tile, and carpets. The Zero-Tangling DuoDivide Main Brush and FlexiArm Riser Side Brush ensure no hair tangles, even with long hair or pet fur. Additionally, the anti-tangle omnidirectional wheels eliminate the need for manual hair removal, significantly boosting cleaning efficiency and making maintenance effortless.
  • 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: The FlexiArm Riser Side Brush & Mop automatically extends to reach difficult corners and low spaces under furniture, sweeping away dust with ease. As it detects corners and edges, the mop extends to provide thorough, efficient cleaning. This design ensures comprehensive coverage, effectively eliminating blind spots and leaving every area spotless.
  • 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀: The innovative AdaptiLift Chassis, featuring left/right wheels and omnidirectional wheels, effortlessly navigates obstacles up to 4 cm high, including thresholds and U-shaped furniture legs. When carpets are detected, the Dual Spinning Mops and mop bracket automatically lift to prevent wetting long-pile carpets. During recharging, the main and side brushes are raised to avoid dirt transfer onto the floor, delivering a quiet and pristine mopping experience.

The weaknesses are more important when comparing it with other premium models. RTINGS found carpet and deep-cleaning performance to be inadequate compared with leading alternatives, with poor crevice pickup. Vacuum Wars also reported below-average pet-hair pickup on carpet in its testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes the Z70 a better fit for predominantly hard-floor homes than for households whose main challenge is carpet, embedded debris or heavy pet hair. More frequent dock returns may also be necessary because the arm bay contributes to compromises in internal cleaning hardware and dustbin capacity.

Roborock Saros Z70 vs. Saros 10R

The Saros 10R is the closest alternative because it offers much of the same premium navigation, low-profile design, mopping and dock automation without the mechanical arm.

Category Saros Z70 Saros 10R
Robotic arm Yes, retractable five-axis OmniGrip arm No
Best reason to buy Relocating selected lightweight objects Cleaning performance and value
Carpet concern Weaker independent results, especially for deep cleaning Better conventional platform in comparative testing
Mechanical complexity Higher because of the arm and related hardware Lower
Cleaning hardware Compromises are associated with making room for the arm Fewer arm-related compromises and a more practical brush configuration
Best buyer Clutter-prone, hard-floor household interested in emerging robotics Most buyers who prioritize dependable cleaning

The Z70’s 22,000 Pa headline should not be used to declare it the better cleaner. Comparative testing favors the Saros 10R as the better overall robot vacuum for shoppers who do not specifically need object relocation.

Price and value

Roborock’s US listing showed a reference price of $2,599. Search-result snapshots observed on August 16, 2026 showed different sale prices, including $1,599.99 and $1,299.99, but those were not verified live prices and may no longer apply. Check the official listing before purchasing.

The premium primarily buys the arm and the engineering around it—not automatically superior vacuuming. At or near list price, the Z70 is difficult to justify unless its object-moving capability solves a frequent household problem. A substantial discount changes the calculation, particularly for a hard-floor home with repeated sock, slipper or tissue clutter.

Who should buy the Saros Z70?

Buy it if:

  • Your home has mostly hard floors.
  • Small, lightweight clutter repeatedly interrupts robot cleaning.
  • You value fewer pre-cleaning tasks more than maximum carpet pickup.
  • You are comfortable with a first-generation robotic-manipulation feature.
  • You want Roborock’s most technically distinctive model.
  • You can buy it at a meaningful discount and accept occasional failures.

Choose the Saros 10R if:

  • Cleaning performance is the priority.
  • You have substantial carpet or pet hair.
  • You want fewer mechanical failure points.
  • You do not need automatic object relocation.
  • The price difference is large.

Consider another model if:

  • You need particularly strong carpet or pet-hair cleaning.
  • Your home contains many cords, toys or hazardous objects.
  • You want a lower-cost, simpler robot vacuum.
  • You need a more established long-term reliability record.

Ownership and safety considerations

Use only cleaning products recommended for the system. The manual warns that unsuitable disinfectants can damage the robot or dock. Keep water away from electrical areas, install the dock on a stable hard surface, and follow the manual’s handling instructions—do not carry the robot by its arm, magnetic cover, electric hatch, side brush or bumper.

Routine ownership also includes replacing dust bags, filters, mop cloths, brushes and cleaning solution. These costs are not unique to the Z70, but the machine’s premium price and additional moving hardware make support, warranty terms and parts availability especially important.

Verdict

The Saros Z70 deserves its CES 2025 recognition because it demonstrates a genuinely new capability: a robot vacuum that can manipulate selected objects instead of merely avoiding them. The OmniGrip arm is potentially useful in a clutter-prone, hard-floor home, but it remains constrained and occasionally unreliable.

For most shoppers—especially those with carpets, pets or a preference for straightforward value—the Saros 10R is the safer recommendation. Buy the Z70 when its object-moving feature directly addresses a recurring problem, and preferably when a substantial discount makes the experiment easier to justify.
