The best couch cover depends on what you need it to do: block leaks, stay in place under pets, fit a particular sofa, or change the upholstery’s look. For spill protection, consider a cover specifically described as waterproof; for a softer feel or reversible styling, a water-resistant quilted cover may be the better match. Measure the seat before choosing a size, especially for sectionals.

How to choose a couch cover that fits
Measure the seat, not just the sofa’s outside width
Measure from the inside of one arm to the inside of the other. Easy-Going’s official catalog lists a 60–81-inch seat-width range for sofas and 78–106 inches for oversized sofas. Those are catalog size ranges, not a guarantee that every shape within a range will fit: check the specific product’s dimensions and account for seat depth, arm shape and back height.
Measure sectionals one section at a time
A single sofa cover may not accommodate a sectional’s corner, chaise or separate seat widths. Measure each section and look for a sectional-specific option or separate protectors that match the layout. Gorilla Grip lists sizes extending through sectional options, but verify the exact configuration on the product page.
#1 Best Overall
- 100% Waterproof Fabric: Top Fabric is processed with waterproof treatment, and back coated with waterproof layer. Dual waterproof feature can guarantee 100% waterproof effect.
- Material: 20% spandex + 80% polyester, back coated with TPU film. High quality, stretch and soft. The couch cover is a great choice for homes with children and pets.
- Perfect Fit: Sofa cover fits seat width (60"- 81"). Detailed measurement please refer to size picture. Be sure to measure the sofa before purchase. Elastic Bottom can provide all round protection for the sofa, protecting from daily wears and tears.
- Easy Installation: Install the sofa cover according to seamed labels. TUCK EXCESS FABRIC INTO THE SEAMS to make it more fit. There are foam strips included to help keep the cover stay in place better. Please refer to our installation instruction or guide picture.
- Easy Care: Machine washable with cold water. Do not bleach or iron. Do not turn the reverse coated side outside in machine washing. As the coated waterproof layer is easily damaged by little higher temperature, it is suggested to hang dry.
Check the intended coverage
Loose protectors, fitted stretch slipcovers and cushion-only covers solve different problems. If arms and the back get dirty, look for a design with extended arm coverage or back flaps. If wear is concentrated on cushions or an ottoman, a targeted cover avoids wrapping the whole sofa.
Waterproof vs. water-resistant couch covers
These labels describe different levels of protection. Gorilla Grip describes its Waterproof Sofa Protector as having a waterproof barrier. Easy-Going sells both waterproof and water-resistant cover families, so check the exact variant instead of relying on the brand name or a general collection page. A water-resistant cover can suit routine messes, but the researched product descriptions do not establish that it will stop every spill from reaching upholstery.
Rank #2
- Home Defender Pro - Keep your furniture protected from scratches, chewing and potty accidents - absorbs way more moisture than regular throws. Trusted by multi-pet households, from teething puppies to incontinent senior dogs
- 24/7 Waterproof Barrier - Never replace furniture again! Save furniture with 3-layer TPU armor (3x stronger). Blocks accidents, mud & drool. Gentle on sensitive skin. Perfect for messy play or family adventures
- Go Anywhere, Do Everything - From road trips to picnics, vet visits to backyard naps - this lightweight blanket folds instantly. Waterproof backing stays dry even on damp grass. Adventure-ready for you and your furry crew
- 2 Blankets in 1 - Reversible design = double the style. Flip between neutral plaids and solid colors to match any décor. Poof! Dual-color protection - hides coffee stains on dark, grass stains on light
- 30-Minute Fresh Start - Toss it in the wash - dries faster than your morning coffee. Use dryer balls to maintain fluffiness - no fancy detergents needed. Pro tip: Buy 2, always keep one ready
For recurring wet messes, choose a product explicitly identified as waterproof and follow its care instructions. No cover eliminates the need to clean up spills promptly or verify that the protector fully covers the area at risk.
Which stay-put design works best?
- Adjustable straps: The Gorilla Grip Waterproof Sofa Protector uses straps to secure the cover across the sofa.
- Foam anchors and straps: Easy-Going’s reversible quilted sofa cover family lists these features to help hold a loose cover in place.
- Silicone grip dots: Gorilla Grip’s Plush Couch Cover uses a dotted backing for grip rather than relying only on a draped fit.
- Stretch construction: A stretch slipcover fits closer to the upholstery, which can reduce loose fabric compared with a draped protector, but it requires a suitable sofa shape and measurements.
“Non-slip” does not mean immovable on every fabric or sofa shape. Tuck and adjust a cover after fitting, and check it again after pets or children use the sofa.

Comfort, absorbency, and pet hair
The Gorilla Grip Plush Couch Cover is the plush-feel option among the products reviewed here. Its maker describes a five-layer construction and says third-party testing found it can hold up to 40 cups of liquid. That is a manufacturer-reported test claim, not an independently verified comparison with the other covers in this list.
Quilted covers add a soft layer but sit on top of the upholstery, while a stretch cover is intended to look more like fitted fabric. The available product information does not establish a comparative pet-hair removal result, so consider the surface texture and how easily you can remove and wash the cover rather than assuming a particular fabric repels hair.

Washing and upkeep
The researched Gorilla Grip Waterproof Sofa Protector and Plush Couch Cover are machine washable. Gorilla Grip recommends tumble drying the plush model on low. Check the label and product page for the exact cover you buy; care instructions may differ between models and variants. Before washing, remove straps or loose anchors if the product instructions call for it.
Which cover should you buy?
- For leak-focused protection: Start with the Gorilla Grip Waterproof Sofa Protector or the appropriate Easy-Going waterproof sofa or loveseat format.
- For a plush surface and grip-dot backing: Consider the Gorilla Grip Plush Couch Cover if its absorbency claim and low-heat drying recommendation suit your needs.
- For reversible color and a quilted look: Compare Easy-Going’s reversible sofa and loveseat covers; confirm the specific model’s water-resistance description and fit.
- For a neater, upholstery-like appearance: Look at Easy-Going’s stretch sofa slipcover, provided your sofa shape matches its fit requirements.
- For outdoor seating: Choose a cover specifically listed for outdoor furniture.
