TechRadar’s original roundup covered 103 product and retailer entries across TVs, laptops, appliances, gaming, smart home, audio, fitness, personal care and more. The most useful way to read it is not as a list of universally “best” products, but as a snapshot of deals that were potentially worthwhile for particular buyers.

What the January 2026 roundup actually covered
The source article was a UK retail roundup, with prices in pounds and retailers including Currys, John Lewis, Argos, AO, Boots, EE, O2, Vodafone, Very and Robert Dyas. Its “103” entries combined individual product offers with broader retailer and category listings, so it should not be interpreted as 103 rigorously ranked products.
Claims such as “record low” or “lowest-ever price” referred to prices observed by TechRadar at the time. They were not permanent product attributes, and some items had reportedly been cheaper during Black Friday or Boxing Day. See the original TechRadar roundup for the archived list.

For PS5, Xbox or Switch 2 gaming, check refresh rate, input lag, variable refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 rather than assuming every 4K television is equally suitable. For films, black levels and processing may matter more. “Cheapest” is therefore a use-case label, not a universal recommendation.
Laptop deals worth examining
Asus Vivobook OLED
The roundup highlighted a 16-inch Asus Vivobook with an OLED display, Intel Core i9 processor, 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. That combination was appealing for a large-screen everyday or creative-work laptop, but “Core i9” alone does not prove performance: the exact generation, cooling design and power limit matter.
MacBook Air with M2
An older MacBook Air with Apple’s M2 chip, 16GB RAM and 256GB storage was presented as a value option. It could suit buyers who want macOS and light, efficient everyday computing, but it was already an older generation relative to M4 models at publication. The limited storage, port selection and shorter remaining support runway should be weighed against the price.
For a 2026 buyer, check at least 16GB RAM where possible, storage needs, display quality, ports, battery condition on clearance stock, software compatibility and warranty support. A cheap Windows laptop is not a good substitute for a Mac if your essential software is macOS-only, and vice versa.

Appliances: the discounts were not all equivalent
Vacuums and spot cleaners
The roundup included Shark Stratos and Shark V11 cordless vacuums, plus the Vax SpotWash Duo. TechRadar identified the Shark Stratos as a tested product with a 4.5-star review. Compare floor heads, battery packs, filter costs, replacement parts and whether the quoted runtime is a low-power maximum. High-power cleaning normally reduces cordless runtime.
Air fryers and frozen-drink machines
The Ninja Double Stack received a full-mark TechRadar review, while Ninja Slushi was praised in a separate review. The Tefal Easy Fry 8.3L was included as a heavily discounted option, but the source stated it had not been personally reviewed by TechRadar. Treat those recommendations differently.
For air fryers, distinguish total drawer capacity from usable cooking space, check counter depth and cleaning requirements, and decide whether two cooking zones are genuinely useful. For Ninja Slushi, consider storage, cleaning and how often the machine would realistically be used.
Coffee and hair tools
The Nespresso Vertuo Pop could be convenient, but proprietary capsules make the ongoing cost more important than the machine’s sale price. The Revlon One-Step was listed at £24.99 at Argos, described as 50% off. Check your hair type, heat-protection routine, voltage, returns policy and warranty before buying a styling tool.

Gaming deals
Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle
The article used a £395 standalone-console reference price and calculated that the included Mario Kart World game effectively cost about £14. That is a useful bundle comparison only if you wanted the game. A bundle is not automatically cheaper than buying separately if the included title will remain unused, is digital rather than physical, or is tied to a particular region.
Games and monitors
Other featured offers included EA Sports FC and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on PS5. Game value changes quickly with player populations, reviews, updates and later price cuts.

An AOC 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitor was listed with 1440p resolution, 180Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. Those specifications are promising, but check whether your graphics card can drive the resolution and refresh rate, whether adaptive sync works with your system, how good the HDR actually is, and whether your desk can accommodate the panel.
Smart home and streaming
The standard Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K Max were among the featured streaming devices. The 4K Max was described as offering faster navigation and Wi-Fi 6E support. Wi-Fi 6E only helps when the router and network environment support it, and a streaming stick cannot improve picture quality beyond the TV, content plan and connection.

Before buying, check whether your existing television already has the apps you need, whether the device requires an Amazon account, and which services require separate subscriptions. “Works with Alexa” does not mean every function is available without accounts or third-party services.
A Ring video doorbell was also included. Ring’s subscription and cloud-storage requirements should be treated as part of the purchase decision, alongside privacy, account security, local recording options and what happens if you stop paying for the plan.
Audio, phones, fitness and personal care
Headphones and earbuds
Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones were highlighted for comfort, noise cancellation and sound quality, with weaker battery life identified as a drawback. The older Sony WH-1000XM4 was presented as a value alternative to the newer XM6. Older premium headphones can be excellent bargains, but compare microphone quality, multipoint, Bluetooth features, spatial audio, battery health and software support.
Sony flagship wireless earbuds were also included, although the roundup raised reservations about their noise cancellation. Fit and microphone performance can matter more than a headline specification, so buy from a retailer with a clear return policy.

Wearables
The list included Oura Ring 4 and Huawei’s outdoor fitness watch. Oura’s subscription should be included in the total cost, especially if advanced insights and historical data are important. Fitness trackers should be treated as wellness and activity products, not medical diagnostic devices. Battery estimates depend on GPS use, display settings and sensor features.
Phones and creative gifts
The Google Pixel 9a and Cricut Joy starter bundle were among the other highlighted offers. For a phone, verify SIM-free status, storage, network compatibility, warranty and expected software support. For a Cricut, include the cost of mats, blades and materials; consumables can outweigh the initial machine saving.

- Identify the exact model. Check model number, storage, panel type, accessories, colour and region. Similar names can conceal materially different products.
- Check real price history. Compare with normal selling prices and earlier Black Friday or Boxing Day prices, not only a retailer’s recommended price.
- Separate evidence levels. Label products as tested and recommended, previously tested, editor-selected, or price-only picks.
- Calculate total cost. Add delivery, installation, subscriptions, pods, filters, cleaning fluid, game costs and replacement parts.
- Match the product to your use. Consider room brightness, floor type, hair type, gaming platform, operating system, household size and network.
- Check the seller. Confirm whether stock is new, refurbished, clearance or marketplace stock, and who handles the warranty.
Why “record low” needs careful reading
A lowest-price claim may apply only to one retailer, one configuration, one short observation window or one price-history service. It may exclude marketplace listings, delivery, coupons, memberships, trade-ins or bundle pricing. The January 2026 claims were time-specific and should not be reused as evidence that the products are cheap now.
January 2026 buyer checklist
Before buying a TV
- Measure viewing distance and available wall or stand space.
- Check room brightness, HDR support, refresh rate and gaming inputs.
- Confirm smart-platform apps, sound quality and wall-mount requirements.
Before buying a laptop
- Check processor generation, RAM, storage, ports and display.
- Confirm compatibility with essential software.
- Compare warranty terms and the remaining support life of older models.
Before buying an appliance
- Measure the appliance and check usable capacity.
- Compare runtime, noise, cleaning and replacement-part costs.
- Check return arrangements for opened or used products.
Before buying smart-home equipment
- Check subscriptions, cloud dependence, privacy controls and account requirements.
- Verify Wi-Fi, platform and accessory compatibility.
- Confirm what still works if a paid plan is cancelled.
Bottom line on the 2026 list
The strongest historical opportunities were use-case dependent: the £199 Hisense A6Q for low-cost 4K, the Switch 2 bundle if Mario Kart World was wanted, reviewed Ninja and Shark products where the price was right, and older premium headphones or laptops when their limitations were acceptable. The weakest reason to buy was a large percentage saving by itself.
Because this was a January 5, 2026 snapshot, none of the listed prices should be treated as live buying advice in August 2026. Start with the exact model, check its current price and stock, then compare the full ownership cost against a newer alternative.
