The TEMPUR-Ergo Smart Base is an electrically adjustable foundation, not a mattress. It raises and lowers the head and foot sections of a compatible mattress and adds features such as lumbar adjustment, massage, under-bed lighting, charging ports, sleep tracking, and automatic snore response.

What the Smart Base does
Adjustable positioning
The base independently changes the head and foot angles. Zero Gravity provides a preset elevated position, while the wireless remote and compatible Sleeptracker-AI app provide control over positioning. Elevation can be useful for reading, watching television, relaxing, or finding a more comfortable posture, but comfort depends heavily on the mattress, sleeper, and preferred position.
The base itself does not have a mattress-like firmness. A flexible, adjustable-base-compatible mattress is essential. The mattress manufacturer’s warranty must also permit use on an adjustable foundation.

Lumbar support
Customizable lumbar positioning is one of the Smart Base’s practical comfort features. It may help a sleeper find a preferred support position, but it is not a treatment for back pain. Whether it feels supportive or creates pressure will vary with body shape, sleep position, mattress construction, and adjustment.
Two-zone massage
The Smart Base provides massage divided generally between the head and foot areas. Current Sleeptracker documentation identifies low and high intensity controls for the Smart model. Do not assume it includes the ProSmart Base’s WaveForm massage or other advanced relaxation programs.
Massage is an occasional-use feature for many owners. If you rarely use it, it should not by itself justify the Smart Base’s premium.
Under-bed lighting and charging
Under-bed lighting can be convenient for getting up without turning on a bright bedroom light. USB and USB-C ports add practical charging options. These features are also available on the less expensive TEMPUR-Ergo Power Base, so they are not reasons alone to choose the Smart model.
Snore Response: useful automation, not a medical solution
Tempur-Pedic says the Smart Base can detect snoring and raise the head of the bed by approximately 12 degrees. The company qualifies the feature: it may reduce snoring in otherwise healthy people whose snoring is related to body position.

That is narrower than calling the base an anti-snoring treatment. It will not necessarily stop snoring, and it should not be used to treat or rule out sleep apnea. Persistent loud snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing, gasping, excessive daytime sleepiness, or other concerning symptoms warrant medical evaluation.

Couples should also consider whether the automatic movement will disturb the other sleeper. In a split configuration, verify that the system can identify and respond to the correct sleeper and that both sides are configured properly. The feature requires the smart processor and associated app, network, and account setup; it is not simply a mechanical function of the base.

Sleeptracker-AI, Smart Alarm, and coaching
Sleeptracker-AI is a consumer sleep-monitoring system. Tempur-Pedic describes tracking information such as breathing rate, snoring, bedroom conditions, and other sleep-related data, then presenting insights and coaching. The Smart Alarm is intended as a convenience feature for waking at a preferred time.

Results may be affected by mattress construction, partner or pet movement, room conditions, network problems, and setup errors.
The system is also cloud-dependent. Algorithm updates occur through the cloud, and app features or service availability may change. Review the current privacy policy and service terms before purchase if data retention, account deletion, or future service availability is important to you. The research available for this review did not establish a current Sleeptracker subscription price, so the Smart Base should not be described as permanently subscription-free.

Requirements can differ by processor generation, so check the exact processor included with the base rather than relying on documentation for an older Ergo plus Sleeptracker system.
Setting up a split base
A Split King or Split California King uses two base units. The processors must be configured together as one Smart Bed, not as two unrelated smart beds:
- Set up both bases and connect both processors.
- Complete the first sleeper’s setup.
- Add the second sleeper using the app’s Quick Add Code.
- Confirm that both sides appear in the same Smart Bed and operate correctly.
Incorrect split-base configuration can make the app fail to find one side or prevent synchronized operation. See Sleeptracker’s split-base setup guidance.
Mattress, frame, and room compatibility
Before ordering, check the entire bed system rather than assuming the base works with every mattress or frame.
- Mattress: Use a flexible mattress designed or approved for adjustable-base use, and confirm that its warranty permits this foundation.
- Size: Confirm the exact base size. Couples may need two synchronized units rather than one conventional King base.
- Existing frame: Measure interior width, length, leg clearances, and support points. A decorative frame may not provide enough clearance.
- Height: Account for the base, legs, mattress, sheets, headboard, and footboard. The Smart Base is listed at approximately 4 inches minimum in zero-clearance mode and 16 inches maximum.
- Leg spacing: Tempur-Pedic lists approximately 40.55 inches width-wise and 39.29 inches length-wise between Queen legs, and 55.04 inches width-wise and 39.49 inches length-wise for King. Individual measurements can vary slightly.
- Cooling: The base does not provide dedicated active climate control. It changes position; it does not actively cool the mattress.

Separate a mechanical problem from a smart-feature problem. The physical remote and base motors are different systems from the Sleeptracker processor, Wi-Fi, app, and cloud service. A failed app connection does not necessarily mean the base cannot move, while a control-box or power problem can disable both remote and app control.

For a base or remote problem, Tempur-Pedic recommends this sequence:
- Check all cables beneath the base.
- Confirm that the control-box LED is illuminated.
- Unplug the base for 60 seconds.
- Try another outlet or test the current outlet.
- Replace the remote batteries if necessary.
- Confirm that Child Lock is disabled.
- Re-pair the remote if needed.
The base also includes an emergency battery backup box intended to move the base temporarily during a power outage. It is not normal battery operation.
If the app cannot control the base, check Wi-Fi, app permissions, processor wiring, Bluetooth proximity, and the Smart Bed configuration. Sleeptracker’s support guidance also describes resetting the control box by pressing the physical remote’s Flat and Zero-G buttons simultaneously for five seconds. Firmware updates are found under Settings > My Smart Bed > Firmware Update. For split systems, follow the instructions for both sides. Warranty and ownership considerations
Tempur-Pedic currently lists a 25-year limited warranty for the TEMPUR-Ergo Smart Base. “25-year” does not mean 25 years of full parts, labor, and shipping coverage. Coverage is tiered, and later years are generally more limited than the initial period.
Read the warranty document for the exact schedule, exclusions, labor obligations, shipping rules, proof-of-purchase requirements, and original-purchaser restrictions. Also ask the seller:
- Whether White Glove delivery is included for your purchase channel and location;
- who handles a failed motor, remote, control box, or processor;
- whether a part is repaired or replaced;
- whether buying from a third-party retailer changes the claims process; and
- how app or cloud-service changes affect smart features.
Owners of older Ergo plus Sleeptracker products should not assume the current Smart Base warranty applies. Compare the exact model and processor generation with the applicable Tempur-Pedic warranty information.
