Its defining move is a gradual twist: twenty floors rotate as they rise, while planted terraces, a high-strength structural frame and building systems are integrated into the design.
What is Tao Zhu Yin Yuan?
The tower stands 93.2 metres tall, according to New Atlas (September 20, 2024). It is a residential project, not a public botanical attraction: its planted outdoor spaces are associated with apartments and the building’s shared areas.
Project credits reported by Parametric Architecture (May 18, 2026) name Vincent Callebaut Architectures as international architect, LKP Design as local architect, BES Engineering Corporation as client, Taiwan Kumagai Co. as contractor, King Le Chang & Associates as structural engineer, and SWA as international landscape architect. These are secondary-source credits.
How does the tower’s twist work?
New Atlas reports that 20 floors rotate 4.5 degrees per floor, producing a 90-degree turn from the bottom to the top of the twisting portion. The source attributes a daylight rationale to the geometry; it does not provide measured daylight results.

#1 Best Overall
- Space-Saving : This strawberry planter maximizes your gardening space by stacking 5 layers to grow more plants in a compact area. The strawberry tower planter is ideal for patios, balconies, or indoor use
- Efficient Self-Draining: This vertical garden planter’s built-in drainage feature prevents waterlogging, keeping plants healthy by automatically channeling excess water away
- Soil Moisture Retention: Designed to maintain ideal moisture levels, the greenstalk vertical planter keeps soil hydrated longer, reducing the need for frequent watering and helping plants thrive
- Easy to Move: The strawberry pot’s movable wheels make the vertical planter tower simple to transport for optimal sun exposure or to rearrange spaces
- Suitable for Multiple Plants: This tiered planter is perfect for herbs, flowers, vegetables, or succulents, this planter accommodates diverse plant types, letting you build a mini garden with ease
The rotation changes the orientation of the floor plates as the tower rises, giving the building its recognizable spiral profile. New Atlas also reports three-sided, floor-to-ceiling windows in each apartment. The article describes column-free space on odd-numbered floors and columns concentrated near the edges on even-numbered floors—reported design features rather than independently reviewed structural drawings.
How many plants are on the tower?
New Atlas and Parametric Architecture report approximately 23,000 trees, shrubs and other plants across the site, terraces and balconies. The figure covers the broader development, not just plants on the tower’s exterior. The reporting does not establish a current plant inventory or quantify the greenery’s ecological effects.

- SAVE FLOOR SPACE - Stackable vertical planter tower
- EASY 360° MOBILITY - 4 lockable swivel wheels
- PREVENT OVERWATERING - Bottom drainage holes for breathable pots
- RIGHT MOISTURE - Soil board holds a little water to keep soil moist
- VIBRANT & ROOT-SAFE: PATENTED SOIL BOARDS - Our vertical garden design features specialized airflow gaps and a patented soil-holding board that prevents root rot. This breathable system ensures your indoor or outdoor herbs stay lush, green, and healthy from the top tier to the bottom.
Private terraces make planting part of the residential design, while rainwater collection is reported as a source for watering. That describes an intended building system; it does not establish how much rainwater is currently captured or used.
What structural and resilience measures are reported?
New Atlas describes a high-strength steel frame and 68 foundation piles extending 50 metres into bedrock. The coverage also reports seismic isolation, flood barriers and windows tested for high winds. Those details indicate the kinds of structural and envelope measures incorporated into the project, but the cited reporting does not include engineering calculations, test records or independent confirmation of performance.

What energy and carbon figures have been reported?
New Atlas reports rooftop solar with expected generation of about 40,000 kWh per year, plus six wind turbines expected to produce 1,400 kWh annually for public facilities. These are reported design expectations, not verified operating totals.
Parametric Architecture gives an estimate of 130 tons of carbon dioxide absorbed annually by the planting. This is an attributed estimate, not a measured result. Neither figure alone establishes the tower’s overall energy use, net emissions or environmental performance in operation.

- SOILLESS CULTIVATION: Hydroponics is used instead of traditional soil cultivation, so the automatic top-down timed watering cycle makes better use of water and reduces water waste compared to outdoor potted plants.
- EASY TO MOVE: Our planting tower is small enough to be placed in the kitchen, living room, etc. to meet different layout forms and create a beautiful agricultural landscape.
- VERTICAL TOWER HYDROPONIC GARDEN: Our indoor tower garden hydroponic growing system is designed to provide high productivity and ease of use with a focus on increased utility.
- EASY TO USE: Whether you live in a villa, apartment or high-rise building, the tower hydroponics system offers a soilless option for indoor and outdoor gardening. With this self-watering home hydroponics system, anyone can harvest fresh, farm-quality vegetables in their own home.
- ENRICH GREEN LIFE: This vertical hydroponics kit is known as an indoor sky garden. You and your family can grow 30 different fruits and vegetables at the same time, such as flowers, salads, vegetables, potatoes, fruits and more!
What the available figures do—and do not—show
The published figures describe a distinctive design and its reported systems: a twisting residential tower, extensive planting, rainwater collection and projected renewable generation. Establishing actual performance would require operating data, plant-survival and maintenance records, and the underlying energy and engineering documentation. The cited coverage does not provide those records, so the building’s environmental and resilience outcomes should not be treated as independently verified.
