The original Sonos Arc is another legitimate Google Assistant-compatible option, particularly if you find discounted inventory. The older Sonos Beam (Gen 1) remains supported in Sonos’s documentation but is primarily a used-market choice. The JBL Link Bar has Google Assistant built in, Android TV, Chromecast built in, and multiple HDMI inputs, but JBL currently marks it sold out.

Do not assume that every soundbar with Google Cast, Chromecast, Alexa, or a newer Sonos name supports Google Assistant directly. In particular, the Sonos Arc Ultra should not currently be advertised as a Google Assistant soundbar: Sonos’s reviewed Arc Ultra materials identify Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa instead.

Best soundbars with Google Assistant

Model Google Assistant experience Current buying position Notable features
Sonos Beam (Gen 2) Google Assistant can be configured directly on the soundbar through the Sonos setup process. Best current starting point; listed for sale by Sonos in the United States. Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC/ARC, Wi‐Fi, far-field microphones, Sonos app, Sonos Voice Control, and Alexa support.
Original Sonos Arc Sonos support documentation identifies the original Arc as compatible with Google Assistant. Premium or discounted alternative when available. Do not confuse it with Arc Ultra. Larger home-theater soundbar, Dolby Atmos-oriented design, Wi‐Fi, microphones, and voice control.
Sonos Beam (Gen 1) Sonos documents direct Google Assistant setup compatibility. Older and effectively discontinued for normal retail buying; consider only with used-market precautions. Compact Sonos platform and voice-control support, subject to software and account requirements.
JBL Link Bar Google Assistant is built in, with a far-field microphone and privacy switch. JBL currently marks it sold out; consider only used, refurbished, or leftover inventory. Android TV, Chromecast built in, Bluetooth, three HDMI inputs, HDMI ARC output, and 4K video support.

Availability and voice-service support can change by country, language, firmware, and product generation. Check the exact model before ordering.

Our main recommendation: Sonos Beam (Gen 2)

The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) offers the clearest combination of current availability, compact size, home-theater features, and documented Google Assistant compatibility. It is a practical fit for a bedroom, apartment, office, or smaller living room where a full-width premium bar may be unnecessary.

Sonos lists the Beam Gen 2 with Dolby Atmos support, HDMI eARC/ARC, Wi‐Fi, far-field microphones, and Sonos app control. Google Assistant is not simply enabled by plugging the soundbar into a television: the Beam must be added to a Sonos system and configured through the Sonos and Google Assistant setup flows.

If you are ready to compare current pricing and stock, use the product’s exact generation when searching for the Sonos Beam (Gen 2). A generic search for “Google Assistant soundbar” can produce obsolete JBL Link Bar listings, separate Google Nest devices, or soundbars that only support casting.

Important Beam Gen 2 limitations

  • Voice services are not universally available. Sonos says voice-service availability varies by country and language. The United States is listed as supported, while Puerto Rico is specifically excluded from the U.S. availability entry.
  • Google Assistant and Alexa cannot be used on the same Sonos product at the same time. You may need to choose which assistant you want configured on the Beam.
  • A Google account and compatible Sonos software are required. The soundbar also needs to be added to a Sonos system before the assistant setup can be completed.
  • Microphone control matters. If the physical microphone control is disabled, the soundbar will not be able to hear voice commands even if the service is configured.
  • Music-service support can vary by region. A voice command that works for one account or country may not expose exactly the same music services elsewhere.

Original Sonos Arc: the larger premium option

The original Sonos Arc remains relevant for shoppers who want a larger Sonos soundbar and can find verified stock or a good discount. Sonos support lists the original Arc among products that can be configured with Google Assistant, and Sonos’s Arc documentation identifies Google Assistant as a control method.

Because the model names are easy to confuse, check that a listing says Arc, not Arc Ultra. The original Arc and Arc Ultra are different products with different documented voice-control support. A seller using “new Arc” or “latest Arc” without stating the exact model should be treated cautiously.

For a used or open-box Arc, confirm that the microphones work, the bar can be added to your Sonos account, the power and HDMI cables are included, and the seller accepts returns. A discount is less useful if the unit cannot complete setup or has a disabled or faulty microphone array.

Why the Sonos Arc Ultra is not on this list

The Arc Ultra is a current premium Sonos soundbar, but the official Arc Ultra setup materials reviewed identify Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa; they do not list Google Assistant. That is different from the original Arc, which Sonos support explicitly identifies as Google Assistant-compatible.

This is a model-specific distinction, not a claim that future software changes are impossible. Unless Sonos later documents Google Assistant support for Arc Ultra, it should not be marketed as a soundbar with Google Assistant. Buyers who require Google Assistant should choose a model with explicit support rather than infer compatibility from the Sonos brand or the Arc name.

JBL Link Bar: genuine built-in Assistant, but a risky purchase today

The JBL Link Bar is unusual because it combines a soundbar with Android TV and explicitly includes Google Assistant built in. Its listed features include a far-field microphone, a microphone privacy switch, Chromecast built in, Bluetooth, three HDMI inputs, one HDMI ARC output, and 4K video support.

However, JBL’s current product page marks the Link Bar as sold out. It is therefore not the main recommendation for a new retail purchase. A used JBL Link Bar can make sense only if you specifically want its Android TV and HDMI features and understand that you are buying an older product.

Before buying one, verify:

  • the remote control is included and works;
  • the microphone and privacy switch function correctly;
  • the unit completes setup and connects to Google Assistant;
  • the firmware behaves properly after a factory reset;
  • the HDMI inputs and ARC output work with your television and source devices;
  • the seller offers a meaningful return period; and
  • the price reflects the lack of guaranteed current retail stock or a new-product warranty.

“Google Assistant built in” versus “works with Google Assistant”

These phrases describe two different arrangements.

Google Assistant directly configured on the soundbar

With this arrangement, the soundbar has microphones and a manufacturer-supported setup process for Google Assistant. Sonos documents this type of setup for the original Arc and Beam Gen 1 and Gen 2. The JBL Link Bar goes further in its product description by explicitly calling Google Assistant built in.

Direct integration is what most shoppers mean when they search for a “soundbar with Google Assistant.” It lets you speak toward the soundbar rather than relying on another speaker in the room.

Control through a separate Google Assistant device

A soundbar may also receive cast content or be controlled by a separate Google Assistant-enabled speaker, phone, display, or Google Home device. That does not prove that the soundbar itself contains microphones or has Google Assistant installed.

Philips Fidelio TAFS1 Bluetooth Speaker - Powered By DTS Play-Fi, Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri, 60W Max Power, Black
  • Natural Fidelio Sound with Deep Bass Experience crystal-clear highs, warm midrange tones, and rich bass. A down-firing woofer and twin passive radiators deliver deep, immersive sound, making it ideal for small to medium-sized rooms.
  • Elegant Design with Premium Materials Sleek and stylish, the FS1 speaker features an acoustically transparent metal grille and anthracite Muirhead leather trim. Perfect on its own or as part of a Fidelio home-theater setup, it matches beautifully with the Fidelio FB1 soundbar and FW1 subwoofer.
  • Cinematic Surround Sound with Multi-Room Sync Transform your home audio setup with Philips Wireless Home System. Sync multiple FS1 speakers for multi-room sound, or pair with a Fidelio FB1 soundbar and FW1 subwoofer for a 7.1.4 surround-sound experience.
  • Stereo Sound with Dual Pairing Use a single FS1 speaker for room-filling sound, or pair two for an immersive stereo experience. Enjoy clearer sound with a real sense of space, perfect for music, podcasts, or movies.
  • Smart Connectivity and Intelligent Pairing Easily pair with Philips soundbars, subwoofers, or TVs. The FS1 adapts its performance based on connected devices, optimizing sound quality and delivering richer audio for every setup.

Chromecast or Google Cast support is therefore useful, but it is not enough to label a product “Google Assistant built in.” If hands-free commands from the soundbar are important, look for explicit manufacturer wording and a documented microphone-based setup process.

How to set up Google Assistant on a compatible Sonos soundbar

  1. Confirm the exact model. Sonos’s documented direct-setup list includes the original Arc, Beam Gen 1, and Beam Gen 2. Do not substitute Arc Ultra based only on the name.
  2. Connect the soundbar and update it. Use the current compatible Sonos software and complete the normal Sonos product setup.
  3. Add the soundbar to your Sonos system. Google Assistant setup is performed after the product has been added, not merely after the HDMI cable is connected.
  4. Open the voice-assistant setup flow. Follow the Sonos app’s instructions and continue in the Google Assistant app when prompted.
  5. Sign in with the required Google account. Use the account whose music services, rooms, and assistant preferences you want associated with the soundbar.
  6. Choose the correct room and services. Confirm that the Sonos room name and preferred music service are selected correctly.
  7. Enable the microphone. Check the physical microphone control if commands are not being heard.
  8. Test a basic command. Try a simple volume or playback request, then test the television input and any music service you intend to use.

If setup fails, first check country and language eligibility, update both relevant apps, confirm that the soundbar is online, verify the Google account, and make sure the microphone has not been muted. If the product is used, a factory reset may be necessary—but only after confirming that you have the information needed to add it to your Sonos system again.

Regional, language, and account checks

Google Assistant support on a compatible model is not necessarily identical everywhere. Sonos identifies availability across the United States, Canada, Australia, several European countries, Mexico, and Singapore, with supported language variations including U.S., Canadian, U.K., and Australian English plus several European languages. The United States entry specifically excludes Puerto Rico.

Before purchase, check:

  • your country or territory;
  • the language and regional account settings you plan to use;
  • whether your preferred music service is supported in that region;
  • whether the soundbar can receive the latest compatible software; and
  • whether you are willing to use Google Assistant instead of Alexa on that Sonos product.

Mounting and installation considerations

A soundbar’s voice performance depends partly on placement. Avoid covering the microphone area with a television, shelf, decorative panel, or thick wall-mount hardware. Leave the front of the bar unobstructed and confirm that the microphone control remains accessible after installation.

For a Beam installation, the official product page surfaces compatible mounting accessories including a Sonos Beam wall mount and the Sanus TV Mount for Sonos Beam. These are installation accessories, not alternative soundbars. Check the mount’s television compatibility, weight rating, clearance, and cable routing before drilling or attaching it to a construction surface.

For HDMI, use the television’s ARC or eARC port when connecting a Beam or Arc. eARC can be useful with compatible televisions and formats, but the exact audio formats available still depend on the television, source device, cables, and settings. If voice control works but television audio does not, troubleshoot the HDMI-ARC connection separately from the Google Assistant account setup.

Buying checklist

  • ☐ The listing states Beam Gen 1, Beam Gen 2, or original Arc—not just “Sonos Beam” or “Arc.”
  • ☐ The product page explicitly identifies Google Assistant support.
  • ☐ You have checked country and language availability.
  • ☐ You understand that Sonos requires app-based setup, a Google account, and compatible software.
  • ☐ You have chosen between Google Assistant and Alexa where both are offered on the same Sonos product.
  • ☐ A used unit has a functioning microphone, remote where applicable, cables, and return protection.
  • ☐ You are not treating Chromecast or Google Cast as proof of built-in Google Assistant.
  • ☐ You have not confused the original Arc with the Arc Ultra.
  • ☐ Any wall mount is compatible with the soundbar, television, wall construction, and cable layout.

Which one should you buy?

  • Choose the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) for the safest current retail recommendation, a compact format, Dolby Atmos support, and documented direct Google Assistant compatibility.
  • Choose the original Sonos Arc if you want a larger premium Sonos soundbar and can verify discounted or remaining inventory.
  • Choose a used Beam Gen 1 only when the lower price justifies its age and you can verify setup, software, microphone, and return conditions.
  • Consider the JBL Link Bar only if Android TV, Chromecast, and built-in Google Assistant are priorities and you are comfortable with sold-out status and used-market risks.
  • Do not buy the Arc Ultra specifically for Google Assistant unless Sonos later adds and documents that support.

Some product links may be monetized. Recommendations are limited to products that match the Google Assistant requirement; availability, pricing, and program eligibility should be checked before publication and purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best current soundbar with Google Assistant?

The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is the best current starting point for a soundbar with documented Google Assistant support. Compare it with the original Sonos Arc, older Beam Gen 1, and sold-out JBL Link Bar—and learn why Arc Ultra and Chromecast-only models do not qualify.

Does Chromecast built in mean a soundbar has Google Assistant built in?

No. Google Cast or Chromecast lets you send content to a compatible device and may allow control through a separate Google Assistant device, but it does not prove that the soundbar has Google Assistant built in or contains its own active microphones.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Sonos Arc Ultra work with Google Assistant?

No. The original Sonos Arc is documented as compatible with Google Assistant, while the Arc Ultra materials reviewed identify Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa instead. Verify the exact model before buying.

Is Google Assistant available on Sonos soundbars everywhere?

Yes, but Sonos says voice-service availability varies by country and language. In its current availability information, the United States is included and Puerto Rico is specifically excluded from the U.S. entry.

Is the JBL Link Bar still worth considering?

The JBL Link Bar has Google Assistant built in, Android TV, Chromecast built in, Bluetooth, three HDMI inputs, an HDMI ARC output, and 4K support. JBL currently marks it sold out, so used-unit condition, firmware, remote, microphone, warranty, and returns require careful checking.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is the strongest current starting point for a U.S. shopper who wants a compact soundbar with documented Google Assistant support. The original Sonos Arc is a larger, inventory-dependent alternative. Treat the JBL Link Bar as a used-market curiosity rather than a normal new-retail recommendation, and do not confuse Google Cast support—or the newer Arc Ultra—with direct Google Assistant integration.
