The first-ever Serious Eats Gear Awards, published November 5, 2025, name winners across kitchen gear and food categories—from coffee makers and cookware to grills, storage, and pantry products. The roundup combines new products tried that year with established picks that Serious Eats says have stood up to repeated testing. It is a broad guide, not a claim that every winner suits every cook.
What are the Serious Eats Gear Awards?
The awards are Serious Eats’ 2025 roundup of products selected from its work testing kitchen gear and food products. The publication says it routinely retests top picks and that the inaugural awards include both new finds and products favored through years of testing. The article was written by associate editorial director Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm, whose biography says she has professionally tested products for seven years and previously worked for America’s Test Kitchen. Read the 2025 awards at Serious Eats.

That description explains the publication’s approach; it is not an independent audit of every selection. In a separate methodology article published April 6, 2021, Serious Eats describes starting reviews with a mission statement and questions, selecting candidates, and planning tests around specific characteristics while controlling variables. It also says editors consider subjective factors such as preference and user experience alongside research and testing. The methodology article is available as a Yahoo-hosted reproduction of “How We Test Products”.

What does the award say about the Thermapen ONE?
Serious Eats names the ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE its best instant-read thermometer. Its 2025 article praises the thermometer’s speed and accuracy and notes its rotating screen and backlight. The awards article does not make that selection a guarantee that it is the right thermometer for every kitchen; the model and listing should be checked against your needs before buying.
How should you choose a winner for your kitchen?
Start with the task rather than the award label. A thermometer, Dutch oven, coffee maker, and cooler solve different problems, and the roundup does not establish a single overall best product. For any candidate, check:
