Samsung and Google Cloud announced Gemini integration for Ballie on April 9, 2025. The rolling home companion robot is intended to understand voice, audio, camera imagery, and environmental sensor data, then help with home controls, reminders, visual suggestions, and general wellness prompts. But the announcement did not establish a final price, complete specification sheet, or confirmed retail availability.
As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s official Ballie coverage still does not provide a verified purchase page or clear current shipping status. Ballie is therefore best understood as an announced product with planned capabilities—not a product that readers should assume is available to buy.

The short version
- Yes: Samsung announced that Ballie would use Gemini generative AI technology on Google Cloud.
- What it is designed to do: Support natural conversations, understand visual and sensor information, control compatible smart-home devices, manage reminders, and offer proactive assistance.
- Originally planned: Samsung said Ballie would be available in the United States and South Korea in summer 2025.
- Still unclear: Current retail availability, final price, exact hardware, Gemini model, subscription terms, privacy controls, and complete SmartThings compatibility.
The most accurate description is that Samsung announced Gemini integration for Ballie. It is not accurate to say that Ballie is definitely on sale, runs a specified Gemini model, or has delivered every demonstration capability to retail customers.

Unlike a stationary smart speaker, Ballie is intended to move around the home. Samsung’s earlier description included navigation, interaction with connected appliances, a built-in camera and sensors, a projector, music playback, calls, and video updates about pets or family members. The company also presented Ballie as a mobile interface for managing the home environment.
Samsung’s CES 2024 overview describes those earlier capabilities in more detail on its Ballie AI companion robot page. They remain descriptions of Samsung’s intended product experience, not independent test results.
What exactly does Gemini add?
The April 2025 announcement concerns Gemini on Google Cloud, not necessarily the consumer Gemini mobile app. Samsung says Ballie will combine Google’s Gemini technology with Samsung’s own proprietary language models and AI capabilities.

That distinction matters. Gemini is one part of a larger system. It should not be described as Ballie’s entire “brain,” nor does the announcement establish that Gemini itself handles the robot’s motors, navigation, safety systems, projection hardware, or every smart-home function.
Samsung says Ballie may process several types of input:
- Voice and other audio
- Camera imagery and other visual information
- Environmental sensor data
- Natural-language requests and ongoing conversation
In practical terms, multimodal AI could let Ballie combine what a person says with what its camera and sensors observe. That could make requests less dependent on rigid commands. However, Samsung did not identify the exact Gemini model or version, context limits, latency, cloud architecture, or the division between local and cloud processing.
What Ballie could do with Gemini
The following are use cases Samsung announced or demonstrated. They should be treated as planned capabilities rather than independently verified performance claims.

Ballie is intended to handle contextual conversation instead of responding only to fixed phrases. A user might ask a follow-up question, refer to something discussed earlier, or make a request in ordinary language.
How well that works will depend on factors Samsung has not published, including microphone performance, background noise, accents, internet connectivity, model latency, account requirements, and the robot’s ability to retain useful context without creating privacy problems.

Control lighting and the connected home
Samsung says Ballie could adjust lighting and help manage the home environment. This is one of the clearest reasons to combine mobility with AI: a user could speak to a robot nearby rather than locate a phone or stationary speaker.
Actual control would depend on compatible SmartThings-connected devices, network access, regional support, permissions, and the final compatibility list. The Ballie announcement does not identify every supported light, plug, camera, appliance, or third-party device. It also does not say whether Ballie can act automatically or must request confirmation before changing the home.

Manage schedules and reminders
Samsung lists personalized schedules and reminders among Ballie’s intended functions. That could make the robot useful as a household assistant, particularly if it can deliver reminders in the room where a person is located.
The announcement does not specify which calendar, reminder, account, or voice-command services Ballie will use. It also leaves open important questions about shared household accounts, permissions, notifications, and what happens when the cloud service is unavailable.
Offer appearance or clothing suggestions
Samsung gives the example of a user asking, “How do I look?” Ballie could use its camera and Gemini’s multimodal capabilities to offer clothing or styling suggestions.
This is a demonstration scenario, not a guarantee of reliable fashion advice or accurate image analysis. Camera angle, lighting, clothing visibility, cultural context, and model errors could all affect the response. Users would also need clear controls over whether images are processed, retained, or sent to the cloud.

Greet people at the door
Samsung says Ballie could greet people at the door. A mobile robot that can move through the home might provide a more personal interaction than a fixed doorbell or smart speaker.
That does not make Ballie a certified security device, access-control system, or professional surveillance product. A buyer would need to know how reliably it identifies people, whether it records visitors, whether it can contact household members, and what happens if it cannot navigate to the door or recognize someone correctly.
Provide general wellness guidance
Samsung describes a scenario in which a user says they feel tired. Ballie could use Gemini’s connection to Google Search to offer suggestions involving exercise, sleep environment, or sleep patterns.

This should be treated as general information only. Ballie should not be relied on for emergency decisions, diagnosis, medication guidance, clinical monitoring, or serious symptoms. Wellness advice generated from a conversation or camera and sensor data can be incomplete or wrong.
Monitor pets or family members
Samsung previously described Ballie sending video updates about pets or loved ones. Its mobility could allow it to check different areas of a home rather than viewing one fixed camera angle.
That convenience comes with additional privacy and reliability concerns. Ballie may be unable to reach a room, navigate clutter, climb stairs, maintain battery power, or correctly interpret what its camera sees. It should not automatically be treated as a replacement for a dedicated security or safety system.
Project information and entertainment
Earlier Ballie demonstrations included projection, music, and calls. A mobile projector could potentially display content where it is needed, although usefulness would depend on room lighting, wall or floor surfaces, projection quality, positioning, and battery life.
What the Gemini announcement does not tell us
The word “Gemini” does not answer many of the questions that determine whether Ballie would be practical to own.
- Exact AI model: Samsung did not identify a model such as Gemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini Nano, or another version.
- Processing location: The announcement does not explain how much processing happens on Ballie and how much occurs in Google Cloud.
- Offline operation: Samsung has not published the robot’s capabilities during an internet or cloud-service outage.
- Data handling: The cited announcement does not specify recording retention, image storage, cloud logs, or whether users can delete stored data.
- Microphone and camera controls: It does not establish whether the sensors can be disabled physically or through software.
- Accounts and subscriptions: It does not say whether Ballie requires a Google account, Samsung account, Gemini consumer plan, or separate paid service.
- SmartThings support: No complete list of compatible Samsung and third-party devices is provided.
- Autonomy: Samsung does not explain which actions happen automatically and which require confirmation.
- Hardware: Battery life, speed, obstacle handling, projector specifications, durability, and stair or threshold performance remain undisclosed in the cited material.
- Commercial terms: Final price, warranty, returns, support arrangements, and regional feature differences have not been established.
These omissions are important because a home robot combines sensitive sensors with physical movement and the ability to affect connected devices. A cloud AI partnership alone does not prove that every demonstration will work reliably in an ordinary home.
Why Gemini could make Ballie more useful
Gemini is a logical fit for Samsung’s concept because Ballie is meant to combine speech, vision, movement, and home automation.
- Multimodal interaction: A robot with cameras and environmental sensors needs more than text-only question answering.
- Flexible language understanding: Natural speech could reduce the need to memorize exact commands.
- Contextual assistance: AI could connect a request with what Ballie observes, a schedule, or a home-control task.
- Cloud knowledge: Samsung specifically cites Google Search in its wellness example.
- Ecosystem potential: Reliable SmartThings integration could allow Ballie to coordinate routines across connected devices.
Those are reasonable implications of the announced architecture, not independent benchmarks or confirmed results. The finished product’s value would depend on response accuracy, speed, privacy settings, navigation, battery life, and the quality of integrations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The main trade-offs
Awareness versus privacy
A robot that sees rooms, hears conversations, and follows people could be more useful than a stationary assistant. It also collects or processes more sensitive information. Before buying, readers should look for clear answers about cloud processing, recording retention, household permissions, activity logs, and camera and microphone shutdown.

- Auto-Recharge, Always Ready: EBO SE automatically returns to its charging dock when power is low, ensuring your mobile companion stays energized and ready for your next remote visit whenever you need it
Cloud intelligence versus reliability
If important reasoning depends on Google Cloud, performance may depend on internet access, server availability, account status, and regional service support. An offline fallback and clearly documented failure behavior would be essential for a device intended to operate throughout the home.
Convenience versus autonomy
Automatic greetings, reminders, and home actions could be convenient, but they should be paired with confirmation controls and safeguards against accidental commands. A spoken request in a noisy room should not unexpectedly unlock, switch, or deactivate something important.
Novelty versus necessity
Ballie could combine features associated with a smart speaker, projector, camera, telepresence device, and home-control interface. That does not automatically make it better value than buying established devices separately—particularly if the robot is expensive, requires a subscription, or has limited battery life.
Wellness information versus medical risk
Advice about tiredness, exercise, or sleep can be useful as general information. It is not a substitute for a doctor, emergency service, medical device, or clinical assessment.

Samsung’s April 2025 announcement said Ballie would be available in the United States and South Korea “this summer,” meaning summer 2025. The same announcement said that final specifications, requirements, and pricing had not yet been determined.
As of August 18, 2026, the official Samsung Ballie archive still lists the Gemini announcement but does not provide a verified retail price, complete consumer specification sheet, purchase page, or confirmed current shipping status. Samsung’s Ballie archive is the appropriate page to monitor for official updates.
That means readers should not assume that the original launch window became a completed retail launch. Coverage describing Ballie as “finally coming” may reflect the 2025 announcement, but it should not be treated as proof that the robot is currently orderable.
Who should wait—and who should not?
Ballie may appeal to early adopters who want a mobile smart-home interface, projection, and an experimental AI companion. It could be especially interesting to people already invested in SmartThings, provided Samsung eventually publishes a broad compatibility list and transparent privacy controls.
It is not yet possible to make a responsible value judgment without a retail price, final specifications, independent testing, and clear support and subscription terms. Readers who need dependable home automation today should choose established smart-home products rather than treating Ballie as a confirmed replacement for a smart speaker, camera, robot vacuum, security system, or medical device.
What to check before considering a purchase
- Confirm that Samsung has published an official purchase page for your country.
- Check the final price, warranty, returns policy, and any recurring service fee.
- Review the exact Gemini model and whether a Google or Samsung account is required.
- Read the camera, microphone, cloud-processing, retention, and deletion policies.
- Verify compatibility with the specific SmartThings devices in your home.
- Look for independent testing of navigation, obstacle handling, battery life, voice recognition, projection, and failure recovery.
- Check whether important actions require confirmation and whether the robot provides activity logs.
- Do not rely on its wellness features for medical decisions or its door-related features as certified security protection.
Final verdict
Samsung’s Gemini announcement for Ballie is genuine and potentially significant: multimodal cloud AI could make a mobile home robot more conversational and useful than a conventional voice assistant. But the announcement is not the same as a confirmed, fully specified retail product.
Until Samsung publishes current availability, final pricing, hardware specifications, privacy terms, subscription requirements, and independent evidence of real-world performance, Ballie should be viewed as a promising announced home robot—not a product readers can confidently buy or use today.
