Quick verdict: Samsung’s 65-inch U7900F Crystal UHD TV, model UN65U7900FFXZA, was genuinely listed at $299.99 during a Best Buy promotion. That makes it an unusually inexpensive way to get a new 65-inch Samsung TV, but the deal may have expired, and availability can vary by ZIP code. This is an entry-level 2025 Crystal UHD television—not a QLED, Mini-LED, or OLED set—so its main advantage is screen size, not premium picture quality.

The $299 Samsung TV deal, explained

Best Buy listed the Samsung 65-inch U7900F at $299.99 during a limited promotion. Best Buy displayed a $469.99 comparable value and a $170 savings claim, but that comparison is the retailer’s figure—not proof that the TV normally sells at that price for long periods.

Samsung’s own product page showed the same model at $329.99 when crawled in August 2026. Walmart was also reported to have offered a similar 65-inch 2025 Samsung Crystal UHD TV for approximately $298 during a 2026 summer sales event.

Because these were retailer promotions, do not assume the $299.99 price is still available on September 14, 2026. Check the live listing, enter your ZIP code, and confirm the final price before ordering.

Model year 2025
Resolution 4K UHD
Display category Crystal UHD

The U7900F is Samsung’s budget-oriented Crystal UHD range. “4K” describes the resolution, but resolution alone does not determine brightness, contrast, viewing angles, HDR impact, motion handling, or gaming performance.

Samsung highlights its Crystal Processor 4K, Crystal UHD display, MetalStream design, Samsung Knox Security, Tizen smart-TV features, and access to services such as Samsung TV Plus. Network-based smart features require a Samsung Account, and Samsung notes that the interface and available services may change over time.

What you get for roughly $300

A genuinely large screen

The strongest reason to buy this TV is simple: 65 inches is a lot of screen for the money. It can make sense for a first apartment, bedroom, basement, family room, college rental, or temporary setup where size matters more than enthusiast-level image quality.

Built-in streaming software

Tizen gives the TV an integrated smart-TV interface rather than requiring a separate streaming box for everyday services. That can make setup straightforward for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, and similar apps, provided the TV has an internet connection and the required accounts.

A recognizable manufacturer

Some buyers will prefer Samsung’s software ecosystem and support structure over an unfamiliar budget-TV brand. That convenience is part of the value, although it does not turn the U7900F into a premium display.

Where the low price shows

It is not a premium HDR television

The U7900F is not a QLED, Neo QLED, Mini-LED, or OLED TV. Buyers should not expect OLED-like black levels, advanced local dimming, wide color performance, or the high-impact HDR highlights associated with more expensive sets.

In a dark room, movie enthusiasts may notice the difference between this entry-level set and a higher-contrast television. In a bright room, brightness may also be a concern. Best Buy customer feedback included complaints about lower brightness, but those comments are user experiences rather than independent laboratory measurements.

Connectivity may be a constraint

Best Buy customer commentary also mentioned limited ports. If you plan to connect a game console, soundbar, Blu-ray player, cable box, and other HDMI devices, inspect the current specification sheet carefully and consider whether you will need an HDMI switch or a different TV.

Sound is unlikely to be the highlight

The built-in speakers may be adequate for ordinary television and streaming, but viewers seeking stronger bass, clearer dialogue, or a more cinematic presentation may want to budget separately for a soundbar. Wall mounting, installation, cables, delivery, and protection coverage can also push the total cost well above the advertised TV price.

Is it good for gaming?

It can be suitable for casual console gaming, older consoles, streaming games, and family or party gaming. However, the available evidence does not establish that this model is a premium 4K/120Hz gaming display.

Competitive gamers should verify the exact model’s current specifications for:

  • Native refresh rate
  • HDMI 2.1 support
  • 4K at 120Hz
  • Variable refresh rate
  • Auto Low Latency Mode
  • Input lag
  • HDR gaming performance

Do not buy it on the assumption that any 4K television automatically supports the features offered by higher-end gaming TVs.

Is it good for movies and streaming?

For general streaming, the U7900F’s large screen and built-in smart platform are compelling at around $300. It is a reasonable fit for viewers who want everyday entertainment without paying for premium panel technology.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a weaker choice for someone who watches mostly films in a dark room, demands powerful HDR, or sits far off to the side of the screen. Before buying, check whether the retailer allows enough time to test the panel and decide whether the brightness, uniformity, contrast, and viewing-angle performance suit your room.

Who should buy it?

  • Shoppers who want the largest practical screen near $300.
  • People setting up a spare room, basement, first apartment, or temporary home.
  • Viewers focused on ordinary streaming and general TV use.
  • Casual gamers who do not need advanced high-refresh-rate features.
  • Buyers comfortable trading premium picture quality for screen size and price.

Who should skip it?

  • Movie enthusiasts seeking OLED-like contrast or powerful HDR.
  • Anyone placing the TV in a very bright room where brightness is a priority.
  • Competitive gamers who require verified 4K/120Hz, VRR, and low input lag.
  • Households that need many HDMI-connected devices.
  • Buyers who can spend only the advertised price after adding delivery, installation, a mount, a soundbar, or a protection plan.
  • Shoppers who can obtain a newer QLED or Mini-LED TV for only a modest additional cost.

What to check before checkout

  1. Confirm the model: Look for UN65U7900FFXZA. U7900, U7900F, DU7200, DU8000, and similarly named Samsung TVs are not automatically identical.
  2. Confirm the condition: Make sure the listing is for a new unit, not open-box, refurbished, or marketplace inventory.
  3. Confirm the price: Verify that $299.99 applies before tax and does not require a membership or other condition.
  4. Check fulfillment: Shipping, delivery, and store pickup may differ by ZIP code. A listing is not necessarily actionable if your local store has no inventory.
  5. Review returns: A suitable return window matters if you need to check the panel, smart features, and compatibility at home.
  6. Price the extras: Add delivery, installation, wall-mount hardware, HDMI accessories, a soundbar, and any protection plan you actually need.
  7. Check gaming requirements: If gaming matters, verify the model-specific specifications rather than relying on the 4K label.

New versus open-box

Best Buy also displayed open-box U7900F units below the new-unit price. An open-box television is not equivalent to a factory-sealed one: inspect the condition, confirm that the stand, remote, cables, and packaging are included, and make sure the return policy is acceptable.

See Best Buy’s open-box listing. Inventory and pricing can change by store.

What about the “cheaper than an iPad” comparison?

That comparison is headline shorthand, not a like-for-like value test. Some iPad configurations can cost more than $299, but iPad prices vary by generation, storage, display size, and connectivity. An iPad is a portable computer with a battery and a different app ecosystem; this Samsung is a large stationary display for entertainment.

The accurate takeaway is that this TV was cheaper than some iPad configurations—not that it replaces an iPad or offers equivalent capabilities.

Bottom line

The Samsung U7900F was a real $299.99 retail deal, and it is attractive if your priority is getting a new Samsung-branded 65-inch screen for as little as possible. Its value comes from size, basic 4K resolution, and Tizen streaming—not from premium HDR, OLED-level contrast, advanced gaming, or high-end sound.

Buy it if the exact model is available new at your location for about $300 and you are comfortable with entry-level performance. Skip it if you want a serious movie or gaming display, or if the final delivered and installed cost brings it close to a clearly better TV.
