UB on a Samsung washer generally means the laundry is unbalanced, so the machine cannot spin normally. Pause the cycle, untangle and spread the items evenly around the drum, then restart. Also check that the washer is stable and level. If UB keeps returning after these steps, check the manual for your exact model or contact Samsung; the code alone does not identify a failed part.
What does UB mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung US groups UB with UE, U6, Ur, 1 Ub and 1U6 as an “Unbalanced Load Error.” The washer has detected laundry that is not balanced in the tub and may stop or limit the spin. Samsung recommends untangling and rearranging the laundry before restarting. Samsung’s US guidance on washer error codes notes that code meanings can differ by model: for example, dc can mean an unbalanced load on some washers and a door error on others.
On applicable models, Ur indicates that the washer is trying to rebalance the load. It may add water and retry the spin, which can lengthen the cycle. A Samsung Laundry Combo manual likewise describes UB as a spin process that is not performing properly because the load is too small or unbalanced; that instruction applies to the model covered by that manual, not necessarily every Samsung washer. How to clear UB and restart the washer
- Pause the cycle. Open the washer only when it is safe to do so and the door or lid is unlocked.
- Redistribute the laundry. Untangle items and spread them around the drum rather than leaving them bunched on one side. Close the door or lid and restart the cycle.
- Check the load size. Both an overloaded drum and a very small or single-item load can contribute to an unsatisfactory spin. Samsung UK says one item, such as a bathrobe or a pair of jeans, can trigger Ub/UE. For a load that is too small, its guidance suggests adding one or two towels and starting Rinse/Spin. - Check that the washer stands level and firmly. Confirm all four feet contact the floor and that the machine does not rock. Adjust the washer’s leveling feet as directed in its manual. A small spirit level can help check the machine, but it does not correct an uneven laundry load.
- Choose an appropriate cycle. Use the cycle suited to the fabric and load, following the model manual rather than selecting a high spin speed by default.
Check bedding guidance against your model and market
Samsung India’s support page gives separate bedding recommendations: bedding covers on top-load washers should be 3.0 kg or less; for front-load washers, it recommends bedding covers of 2.0 kg or less and a maximum 800 rpm cycle. The same India guidance says to place the washer on a flat, stable surface, ensure all four feet are balanced and touching the floor, and avoid overloading. It also gives 10 cm as a minimum distance from adjacent walls. Treat that clearance as regional guidance and follow the installation requirements for your model and location.
When UB keeps coming back
Repeat the load-distribution and leveling checks, then consult the manual for the exact model or contact Samsung support if the code persists. Do not infer that a suspension component, bearing, sensor or control board has failed from UB alone: Samsung’s cited troubleshooting guidance identifies an imbalance condition and basic checks, not a component-level diagnosis.
