What does SC mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung Latin America lists SC alongside 5C and 5E as codes that mean water is not draining. Samsungโs regional support pages use different code labels and may give model-specific instructions, so check your washerโs manual if its display or layout differs. The practical issue is drainage troubleโnot a diagnosis that the pump or another component has failed. Samsung Latinoamรฉricaโs troubleshooting page describes the symptom as โEl agua no estรก drenandoโ (โThe water is not drainingโ).

What to check first
Inspect the drain hose
Look behind the washer for a hose that is kinked, sharply bent, crushed, blocked, loose, or installed contrary to the modelโs instructions. Correct any obvious routing problem and check that the connection is secure. Hose height and installation requirements vary by washer type and regional guidance. For example, Samsung UKโs standpipe guidance says the hose must be positioned at least 60 cm above the floor; do not assume that dimension applies to every model or market. You can find the repair video on YouTube and follow it to install DC31-00054D Drain Pump, as there were plenty of do it yourself videos on there that helped guide you on the repair. - Prepare. Switch the washer off and unplug it as directed by the model instructions. Put towels and a shallow container beneath the filter access area.
- Drain residual water. Open the access panel and carefully release the emergency drain hose. Remove its cap and direct water into the container, replacing the container as needed.
- Remove and clean the filter. Once the water has drained, remove the filter. Clear debris, rinse the filter, and wipe the filter housing.
- Reassemble securely. Refit the filter and tighten it as the manual directs. Replace the drain-hose cap and return the tube to its position before closing the panel.
Water left after a hot cycle may be hot. Open the area cautiously to avoid burns. Samsung warns that incorrect filter refitting can cause leaks or operating problems, so make sure the filter and cap are securely restored. Samsung UK emergency-draining instructions
Should you run a diagnostic or replace a part?
Do not run Samsung Smart Install while an error code is already displayed. Samsung US says the diagnostic is intended to check for an error code and should not be run when one is already showing; its drain check may display 5C if it fails. Pulled off the plastic cover for the PX3516-01 drain pump filter and then the 2 screws behind that. Removed the hoses on the drain pump assembly and pulled it out the bottom of the washer, being careful to not cut the wires (taped the sharp edges of the washer metal).
