If your compatible Samsung Family Hub refrigerator is displaying promotions on its idle Cover screen, you can disable them from the refrigerator itself: open Settings, tap Advertisements, select Cover screen Ads, and switch the setting off.
This applies to compatible Family Hub models and may require the latest Family Hub software. It does not mean every Samsung refrigerator displays ads, and the setting is specifically for Cover screen advertising.

How to turn off ads on a Samsung Family Hub refrigerator
- Wake the refrigerator’s Family Hub display.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advertisements.
- Select Cover screen Ads.
- Turn the switch off.
- Return to the Cover screen and let it refresh or go idle to confirm the promotions no longer appear.
These are Samsung’s documented instructions. Menu names can vary slightly by model or software version, so theme controls may appear under labels such as Screen and Style or Wallpaper and Style.

What the setting actually disables
Cover screen Ads controls promotions shown on the refrigerator’s idle Cover screen. That screen may also display information such as weather, news, calendar details, recipes, or other widgets.

The switch should not be treated as a universal Samsung advertising or notification control. Promotions and suggestions inside SmartThings, Samsung Food, Samsung account services, or other connected apps may have separate settings. Likewise, turning off general notifications does not necessarily disable Cover screen ads.
Which refrigerators are affected?
This is a Family Hub feature, not a setting found on every Samsung refrigerator. Samsung described the advertising as a pilot for select Cover screen themes, with availability depending on the model, country, and software version.

Your refrigerator is more likely to support this control if it has a Family Hub touchscreen, a Cover screen or wallpaper/theme system, and an Advertisements entry in Settings. Owners of standard Samsung refrigerators should use the model-specific manual rather than these instructions. Samsung’s Family Hub FAQ and manual hub can help identify the correct documentation.

- Check the refrigerator for a Family Hub software update.
- Install the update and restart the Family Hub display.
- Open Settings and check again for Advertisements.
- If the menu is still missing, check the model-specific Web Manual.
Samsung says an absent slider may mean the refrigerator is running older software or that the model does not support the function. Country and regional availability can also differ. Do not begin with a factory reset: Samsung’s instructions do not require one, and resetting could remove settings or require you to reconnect accounts and services.

Use an ad-free theme as a fallback
If the toggle is unavailable, open the Cover screen’s theme or wallpaper controls and choose Album or Art, if those options are available. Samsung says ads do not appear when the Cover screen uses either theme.
The trade-off is that changing themes can alter the Cover screen’s layout and the information available at a glance. Samsung does not promise identical widget behavior across every model.

Dismissing one ad is not the same as opting out
If an ad has an on-screen X, tapping it dismisses that promotion. Samsung says the dismissed ad will not reappear during the relevant campaign period. That is different from turning off the advertising feature.

- Choose Art or Album: uses a theme Samsung says will not display ads.
Do you need to turn off Wi-Fi?
No. Disconnecting the refrigerator from Wi-Fi is not the normal solution. Family Hub uses an internet connection for updates and many connected functions, including account syncing, remote features, recipes, and other services. Turning off Wi-Fi could interfere with those features without addressing the underlying setting cleanly.

Use the built-in Cover screen Ads control or an available Art or Album theme instead.
Why older reports may say the ads could not be disabled
Early coverage of Samsung’s advertising rollout described the ads as difficult or impossible to disable. Samsung’s October 27, 2025 announcement and its current U.S. support instructions provide a documented opt-out, so those earlier reports do not reflect the current instructions for compatible devices.
Samsung describes the ads as contextual or non-personalized and says Family Hub devices are not collecting personal information or tracking consumers for these ads. That is Samsung’s stated position, not an independently audited privacy finding. The advertising rollout and later Family Hub updates remain dependent on model, software version, and region. Samsung’s 2025 Family Hub announcement and its 2026 update announcement describe those availability limits.
