Samsung and LG do not make one single kind of OLED TV, so there is no universal winner. In the 2026 U.S. lineup, Samsung is the stronger fit for saturated HDR color, glare-reducing premium designs, and high-refresh-rate gaming. LG is the safer choice for Dolby Vision movies, broad home-theater compatibility, smaller OLED sizes, and the flush-to-wall G6 design.
For most buyers, the meaningful comparisons are Samsung S90H vs. LG C6 and Samsung S95H vs. LG G6. Compare the exact model, screen size, panel type, current price, warranty, room, and content—not just the logo on the bezel.

Samsung OLED vs. LG OLED: the short answer
| Choose | If you prioritize |
|---|---|
| Samsung S95H | Premium HDR color, Samsung processing, glare-reducing design, HDR10+, and 165Hz gaming. |
| Samsung S90H | Samsung’s gaming features and OLED picture at a lower tier, including 42- and 48-inch options. |
| LG G6 | Dolby Vision, the most ambitious LG OLED picture system, flush-to-wall installation, and a limited five-year panel warranty. |
| LG C6 | The most broadly sensible LG option, with Dolby Vision, 165Hz VRR, gaming support, and sizes from 42 to 83 inches. |
Samsung’s 2026 S95H has a U.S. MSRP range of $2,499.99 to $6,499.99 for 55- to 83-inch models. The S90H ranges from $1,399.99 to $5,299.99 for 42- to 83-inch models. LG’s C6 starts at $1,399 for 42 inches, while the G6 starts at $2,499 for 55 inches and reaches $24,999 for 97 inches. These are manufacturer MSRPs, not permanent street prices. See the official announcements from Samsung and LG.
Samsung OLED and LG OLED are not identical technologies
The word “OLED” describes the self-emissive display principle: each pixel can turn itself off, producing extremely deep blacks without a conventional LCD backlight. The panel architecture behind those pixels still matters.

QD-OLED
QD-OLED uses a blue OLED light source and quantum-dot color conversion. Its principal advantage is strong saturated-color volume: bright reds, greens, and other vivid HDR colors can retain more intensity than on many conventional white-OLED designs. The trade-off is that some QD-OLED screens can show raised blacks or lower perceived contrast in strong ambient light, depending on the coating and room.
Samsung’s premium OLED range has historically centered on QD-OLED, but do not assume every Samsung OLED—or every size of an S90-series model—uses it. Panel type can vary by model, diagonal, region, production batch, or year. Independent testing of the 2025 Samsung S90F and LG C5 found the QD-OLED S90F version substantially more colorful than the C5’s WOLED panel, but that is a model-level finding, not a guarantee about the entire Samsung brand. See RTINGS’ comparison.

Conventional WOLED uses a white OLED structure with color filters. Premium newer designs can add multiple emissive layers or other brightness systems; they should not automatically be treated as equivalent to older WOLED panels.
LG’s 2026 G6 uses Hyper Radiant technology and Brightness Booster Ultra on specified 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch models. The 97-inch version has different specifications. The C6 uses a different implementation, with brightness capabilities that can also vary by size. Always check the exact product page and independent measurements.
2026 lineup: which models actually compete?
| Market position | Samsung | LG | What to investigate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smaller or value OLED | S85H or S90H | C6 | Samsung gaming and HDR features versus LG Dolby Vision; verify panel type. |
| Mainstream enthusiast | S90H | C6 | Sale price at the same size, panel architecture, HDMI features, and room performance. |
| Premium flagship | S95H | G6 | Samsung color and screen treatment versus LG brightness system and wall-mount design. |
| Large screen | S95H up to 83 inches | G6 up to 97 inches | Size, installation, brightness, price, and panel architecture. |
| Discounted previous generation | S95F or S90F | G5 or C5 | Whether the discount offsets older processing, support, warranty, and features. |
The 2026 Samsung S90H spans 42 to 83 inches, while the S95H spans 55 to 83 inches. LG’s C6 comes in 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches; the G6 comes in 55, 65, 77, 83, and 97 inches. A model name is not enough: the diagonal can change the panel, coating, brightness hardware, stand, or feature set.
Picture quality: compare the variables, not the brand
Black level and contrast
Both OLED technologies can produce exceptionally deep blacks in a controlled room. The more useful question is how the screen behaves in your room. Ambient light can lift perceived blacks on some QD-OLED screens, while anti-reflection treatments can alter haze and the appearance of dark scenes. Neither brand automatically has “better blacks” in every situation.

HDR brightness and color volume
Samsung’s QD-OLED models can have an advantage with highly saturated HDR colors. LG’s premium G6 is designed to deliver greater brightness than the company’s more conventional OLED models. But peak-brightness claims are not directly interchangeable: manufacturers may be quoting a tiny highlight window, a particular picture mode, a multiplier over a reference panel, or brightness measured with different color and accuracy limits.
Look for independent measurements of small-window HDR brightness, full-screen brightness, tone mapping, color volume, and sustained performance. A small white highlight can be spectacular while a bright sports field or snowy landscape is much less intense.
Processing, upscaling, and motion
Processing affects low-resolution broadcasts, compressed streaming, skin tones, gradients, motion judder, and the handling of fast sports. Samsung and LG use different processing systems and picture modes, and results can change with firmware and settings. A comparison should include upscaling, near-black handling, motion accuracy, input lag, game-mode picture quality, and filmmaker accuracy—not only a brightness number. RTINGS’ S95F versus G5 comparison illustrates why these must be assessed separately.
Viewing angle and reflections
OLED generally retains its picture well from wide viewing angles, but the coating and panel structure affect off-axis contrast, haze, and reflected light. Samsung markets the S95H and S90H with glare-reducing screens. LG lists Reflection Free Premium on specified G6 sizes. These labels do not mean that a window reflection disappears. A treatment may diffuse a sharp reflection into a broad haze, change perceived black levels, or behave differently when viewed from the side.
HDR movies and streaming
The biggest format distinction is straightforward:
- LG C6 and G6: support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
- Samsung S90H and S95H: emphasize HDR10+, including HDR10+ gaming, rather than Dolby Vision.
If your UHD Blu-ray collection or streaming services frequently use Dolby Vision, LG offers broader format compatibility. If you mainly watch HDR10 content or prefer Samsung’s vivid HDR presentation, the format gap may matter less. Dolby Vision does not guarantee a better-looking image by itself; mastering, calibration, tone mapping, source quality, and room brightness still matter.

For accurate movie viewing, use the appropriate Filmmaker or cinema-oriented mode and disable unnecessary processing. Viewers who prefer a brighter, more saturated presentation may prefer Samsung’s processing. An external UHD Blu-ray player or streaming box can supply the source format, but it cannot add Dolby Vision support to a television that does not process it.
Gaming: Samsung and LG are both excellent, but for different reasons
| Gaming priority | What to look for | Likely advantage |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 or Xbox | 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, HDMI 2.1, game-mode image quality, and format support. | Close comparison; LG’s Dolby Vision support may matter to some users. |
| High-end PC | 165Hz, G-SYNC, FreeSync, VRR behavior, text clarity, input count, and desktop usability. | Both are highly capable; Samsung emphasizes its gaming package, while LG offers broad adaptive-sync support. |
| Competitive play | Input lag, refresh rate, motion clarity, and stable VRR. | Check independent measurements rather than relying on a brand label. |
| Static HUD or desktop use | Panel-care features, usage pattern, warranty, and burn-in risk. | Neither OLED is ideal for extreme static use. |

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. For a PC, 165Hz can be useful if the graphics card and game can deliver the required frame rate. Before buying, confirm the number and location of HDMI 2.1 inputs, the supported resolution and refresh rate on each input, VRR range, and whether the exact size has the advertised features.
Which is better in a bright room?
Bright-room performance involves four separate problems:
- Direct reflections: a window or lamp is visible in the panel.
- Ambient black-level elevation: dark areas look gray or hazy in strong light.
- Reduced perceived contrast: the image looks flatter even though measured OLED contrast remains high.
- Daylight brightness: large bright scenes may look less forceful than they do in a dark room.
Samsung’s glare-reducing screen and LG’s specified G6 reflection treatment may help, but neither eliminates the need to control the room. If sunlight lands directly on the screen, changing the TV’s position or adding blinds may improve the result more than switching brands.
Decision rule: compare the exact size, screen finish, measured reflection behavior, and sustained brightness. Do not conclude that the brighter specification is automatically best if the screen reflects a window into your viewing position.
Smart-TV software: Tizen versus webOS
Samsung’s 2026 televisions use an upgraded One UI Tizen interface. Samsung says eligible models may receive up to seven years of operating-system updates. The platform includes Samsung TV Plus, Gaming Hub, smart-home integration, voice controls, and Samsung-device features, although advertising and recommendations may not suit everyone.
LG’s C6 and G6 use webOS 26 and add AI personalization features. LG’s interface and remote are often attractive to buyers who prefer a straightforward launcher and gaming controls, while Samsung may be preferable for users already invested in Samsung services and devices.
Neither interface determines overall picture quality. If you dislike either platform, an Apple TV, Google TV streamer, Roku, game console, or UHD player can replace much of the built-in software experience. Check app availability, privacy settings, advertising, search, voice controls, and external-device control before treating software as a deciding factor.
Sound and installation
At this price level, built-in speakers should not be the primary reason to choose a TV. Confirm eARC and Dolby Atmos passthrough if you will use a soundbar or AV receiver. Samsung offers Q-Symphony integration with compatible Samsung soundbars. LG offers WOW Orchestra and compatible soundbar integration.

The G6 is designed around a flush-to-wall appearance, so installation and cable routing deserve attention. A wall mount, professional installation, longer cables, and possible electrical work can materially change the project cost. The C6 and Samsung models are more conventional choices for furniture placement, but verify whether the desired stand is included or sold separately.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.OLED burn-in: the practical risk
OLED burn-in is neither automatically solved nor inevitable. Risk depends on repeated static elements, daily hours, brightness, content variety, pixel-shifting and compensation systems, and the individual model. Static logos, news tickers, game HUDs, desktop taskbars, and commercial signage are more concerning than varied films and shows.
| Usage pattern | OLED suitability |
|---|---|
| Varied movies and streaming | Excellent fit. |
| Mixed console gaming | Generally suitable with normal panel-care features enabled. |
| Several hours of one game every day | Usable, but requires care and carries higher risk. |
| Full-time PC desktop | Higher-risk use; consider LCD or mini-LED alternatives. |
| News channel all day | Poorer fit because of persistent logos and tickers. |
| Commercial signage | Consider a display designed and warranted for that duty cycle. |
Enable screen-saving and pixel-care features, vary content, avoid leaving a static image paused, and read the exact warranty exclusions. A buyer who will display a static desktop or HUD for many hours daily should consider a mini-LED/LCD television, a lower-brightness usage profile, or a product with explicit panel coverage. Never assume a manufacturer warranty covers every burn-in scenario.
Warranty and design differences
LG’s G6 includes a five-year limited panel warranty. That does not mean the entire television is covered for five years with no cost: LG specifies that during years two through five, panel coverage continues but labor may be charged. Confirm exclusions, labor terms, proof-of-purchase requirements, and geography before treating the warranty as a major price advantage.

Who should buy Samsung?
- Buy Samsung when saturated HDR color and a vivid presentation are your top priorities.
- Choose the S95H when you want Samsung’s premium processing, screen treatment, and high-end gaming features.
- Choose the S90H when its price is materially lower than the S95H and you have verified the panel type at your chosen size.
- Samsung is especially compelling for PC gamers who can use 165Hz, G-SYNC, or FreeSync features.
- Samsung also makes sense if you prefer HDR10+ and Samsung’s Tizen, Gaming Hub, or smart-home ecosystem.
Who should buy LG?
- Buy LG when Dolby Vision and broad movie-format compatibility matter.
- Choose the C6 for a flexible all-purpose OLED, especially at 42 or 48 inches.
- Choose the G6 when you want LG’s highest-end brightness system, a flush-to-wall installation, and the limited panel warranty.
- LG is a strong choice for buyers who prefer webOS, LG’s remote experience, or a traditional home-theater feature set.
- Do not buy the G6 solely for its warranty; account for possible labor charges after the first year and installation costs.
When neither brand is the right choice
Consider a high-quality mini-LED/LCD television instead if the set will display static content for much of the day, the room has unavoidable direct sunlight, you need sustained full-screen brightness for sports or news, you want the largest screen at the lowest price, or you do not want to manage OLED-care features. A less expensive mini-LED may also deliver better value than an expensive OLED whose advantages your room and content will not reveal.
How to compare a current model with a discounted 2025 TV
A discounted Samsung S95F or S90F can be a better purchase than a full-price 2026 model if the discount is substantial and you accept older processing, software support, warranty terms, and availability. The same applies to LG’s G5 and C5. Use independent comparisons such as S95F versus G5 and S90F versus C5, then compare the actual sale price at the same diagonal.
Do not assume the newest television is automatically the best value. Compare exact model number, size, panel technology, current price, warranty, included stand, return window, and the features you will actually use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Verify these details before ordering
- Confirm the exact U.S. model number and screen size.
- Verify the panel technology for that specific diagonal; do not assume an S90-series model is QD-OLED.
- Check HDR formats: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and gaming support.
- Confirm HDMI 2.1 port count, 4K refresh-rate limits, ALLM, VRR, G-SYNC, and FreeSync.
- Check whether the stand is included and whether wall-mount hardware or installation is extra.
- Read the warranty, including panel, labor, burn-in, accidental damage, and regional exclusions.
- Compare MSRP with the current retailer price, and identify whether a trade-in, membership, bundle, or financing condition is involved.
- Check the return window, dead-pixel policy, delivery inspection process, and installation terms.
- Measure the wall, stand, viewing distance, doorways, and cable route before delivery.
Final verdict
There is no blanket Samsung-or-LG winner. Choose Samsung S95H for premium HDR color, Samsung’s gaming ecosystem, and a glare-reducing design; choose S90H for a lower-cost Samsung OLED after verifying the panel at your chosen size. Choose LG G6 for Dolby Vision, LG’s most ambitious OLED brightness system, and a flush-to-wall installation; choose C6 for the more practical LG balance of price, size options, movie formats, and gaming.
If the price difference is large, a discounted 2025 model may be the smarter purchase. If the TV will face direct sun or show static images for hours every day, compare mini-LED before committing to either OLED brand.
