President William Samoei Ruto inspected construction of the 20-kilometre Endebess–Kolongei–Matumbei–Salama Road in Trans Nzoia County on 10 October 2026, according to The Star. The report put the project cost at KSh 1.1 billion and said it is expected to improve connectivity, including movement of people and farm produce. Those are anticipated benefits; the available reporting does not document measured outcomes or confirm completion.
What was reported about the road inspection?
The Star reported that Ruto interacted with residents while inspecting the ongoing construction of the 20-kilometre Endebess–Kolongei–Matumbei–Salama Road. The report named the route this way and gave its cost as KSh 1.1 billion. It described improved connectivity as an expected benefit, rather than a result already measured after completion.

The same report said eight road projects covering 292 kilometres were under construction across Trans Nzoia, with a combined investment of KSh 18 billion. These are figures attributed to The Star’s report; the available material does not establish them through a separate primary government project record.

Why does road access matter in Matumbei?
Local statements provide context for the anticipated benefits. In a March 2024 account of a separate county road initiative in Matumbei ward, Trans Nzoia County described work on over five major and 22 minor roads, including bush clearing, heavy grading, culvert installation, graveling and drainage.

The route names are similar, but the records describe different projects and should not be conflated:

What is known about transport benefits so far?
The reported aim is better connectivity and easier movement of people and goods. The available sources do not establish that this specific project has already reduced transport costs, shortened trips, increased farm income, improved access to healthcare, or changed school attendance. Those outcomes should not be presented as achieved results without project-specific evidence.
