Roku’s Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus are wire-free, weather-resistant cameras that work with the Roku Smart Home app and can show live feeds on compatible Roku TVs and players. Roku advertises up to six months of battery life for the standard model and up to two years for the Plus; those are estimates, not guaranteed runtimes.

What are the Roku Battery Camera models?

Announced on April 23, 2025, the Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus are Roku-designed indoor/outdoor cameras that do not need a wired power connection during normal operation. Both offer 1080p HD full-color video, color night vision, weather resistance and motion alerts. Roku’s support information identifies the Battery Camera as IP65-rated.

The main distinction is advertised battery life. Roku lists the standard Battery Camera (SCB11X) at up to six months per charge and the Battery Camera Plus (SCB12X) at up to two years. Actual runtime varies with settings, activity, use and environmental conditions, so frequent motion events or other heavier use can mean more frequent charging.

Which model should you choose?

Model Advertised battery life Listed price and stock Best fit
Roku Battery Camera (SCB11X) Up to 6 months per charge $59.99; marked out of stock on Roku’s catalog listing A lower-cost wire-free option if charging more often is acceptable
Roku Battery Camera Plus (SCB12X) Up to 2 years per charge $79.99; marked out of stock on Roku’s catalog listing A longer-runtime option for installations where recharging is inconvenient

The prices and stock status are those shown on Roku’s catalog listing; availability can change. The advertised runtime is the clearest difference established between the two cameras. Both are intended for indoor or outdoor placement and share the Roku app and compatible-TV viewing features.

Can you watch a Roku security camera on your TV?

Yes. Roku says compatible Roku TVs and players can display camera live feeds. Roku’s April 2025 launch announcement also described picture-in-picture, allowing a camera view to appear alongside other TV content. The announcement does not establish that every Roku TV or player supports every viewing feature, so compatibility depends on the device.

Roku also offers remote monitoring through the Roku Smart Home mobile app or Roku Web View. Camera Carousel can rotate among camera feeds either on a timer or in response to activity. That makes the TV option useful for a quick household check, while the app and web view provide ways to monitor away from the TV.

Do Roku battery cameras need a subscription?

No subscription is required for live viewing. A Roku Smart Home Subscription is required for cloud event recordings, 14-day cloud storage, person, package, pet and vehicle detection, and event filtering. Roku says camera recording begins after motion or a manual trigger; the subscription adds cloud storage and advanced detection rather than making basic live viewing available.

The cameras require a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, according to Roku’s catalog FAQ. Check that a suitable network reaches the planned mounting location before installing the camera.

How do you install and charge the cameras?

Mounting

The Battery Camera uses a standard 1/4-inch-20 threaded mount. Roku says mounting hardware is included, but a Phillips screwdriver is not. A pilot hole may be needed for brick, stone or drywall where there is no stud. Choose a position with Wi-Fi coverage and a useful view of the area; placement also affects how often motion events may prompt the camera to operate.

USB-C charging and solar power

Both camera models are compatible with Roku’s USB-C Solar Panel, listed at $29.99 in Roku’s catalog. Roku recommends several hours of direct sunlight, mounting the panel at roughly a 30-degree upward angle, and pointing it south in the Northern Hemisphere. Solar charging depends on the available sunlight and installation conditions, so it should not be treated as a guarantee that the camera will never need charging.

Are Roku Battery Cameras available on Amazon?

Amazon availability, seller, listing identity and price are not established by the available product information. Check Amazon’s current listings directly and verify the exact model name and seller before buying. Roku’s own catalog listing marks both cameras out of stock, but that does not establish whether a third-party listing is available.
