Roborock Saros Z70 Robot Vacuum Review: Yes, It Has an Arm

The Saros Z70’s robotic arm works, especially under manual control, but it is not yet a dependable autonomous housekeeper. The rest of the robot is excellent—though the arm introduces real compromises.

Yes, the Roborock Saros Z70 really does have a robotic arm. Its five-axis OmniGrip arm can move selected lightweight objects such as socks, tissues and some small toys. However, it is far more dependable when controlled manually than when left to tidy autonomously.

The Z70 is otherwise an excellent premium robot vacuum and mop, with strong navigation, low-clearance access, threshold-climbing hardware and a highly automated dock. But the arm adds cost, mechanical complexity and several compromises. For most buyers, the closely related Saros 10R is the better value. Buy the Z70 specifically for the arm—not simply because it is Roborock’s most expensive flagship.

What is the OmniGrip arm?

The OmniGrip is a five-axis mechanical arm built into the Saros Z70. It folds beneath a hatch on top of the robot when it is not needed, then extends a gripper to identify, grasp and relocate selected objects.

Roborock presents several possible uses: clearing small items from the robot’s path, placing objects in a user-defined storage area and depositing light rubbish into a container. The arm can also be driven remotely through the Roborock app. Five-axis movement gives it more flexibility than a simple lifting mechanism, but it does not make the Z70 a general-purpose household robot.

That distinction matters:

  • Object avoidance: the robot recognizes an obstacle and drives around it.
  • Object removal: the Z70 may attempt to grip and move a recognized object.
  • Sorting: it carries an item toward a designated area or bin.
  • Manual manipulation: you control the robot and arm through the app.

The arm’s stated maximum payload is 300g. That is a limit, not a guarantee. An object’s shape, texture, position, floor surface and approach angle can matter just as much as its weight. Roborock lists the arm alongside the Z70’s 22,000Pa rated suction, StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 navigation and AdaptiLift chassis on its official product page.

What can it pick up?

Independent reviews have reported attempts involving socks, crumpled paper or tissues, towels, light sandals and some small toys. Results vary considerably, even with objects that appear suitable.

Task Realistic expectation
Pick up a sock Possible, but not guaranteed autonomously
Move crumpled tissue Possible under favorable conditions
Sort light rubbish into a bin Inconsistent in independent testing
Move a sandal Dependent on its weight, shape and position
Pick up a normal shoe Often too heavy or awkward
Handle cables Not a safe or dependable use case
Move liquids or pet waste Do not rely on it

Do not interpret the 300g specification as meaning that every lighter object is safe or easy to move. The Z70 should not be trusted with glass, liquids, sharp items, fragile objects, tangled cables, heavy footwear or pet waste. Low objects can also be missed, trapped under furniture or positioned where the gripper cannot approach them cleanly.

Does the arm work autonomously?

It can attempt autonomous pickup, but it is not a reliable autonomous tidying system. This is the central finding across the independent coverage.

Manual control is the arm’s most dependable mode. When a user identifies an object and directs the robot, the Z70 can perform a useful occasional pickup. Automatic behavior is much less predictable: the robot may recognize an item but fail to grip it, move it without successfully sorting it, drop it beside the destination or report that sorting failed.

Some testing also found that the robot could record an object’s location for later handling instead of clearing it immediately during the cleaning run. In other words, the Z70 may reduce an obstruction, but you should not expect it to prepare a cluttered room automatically before every vacuum cycle.

TechRadar, WIRED, Android Authority and RTINGS differ in their specific observations, but their overall conclusion is consistent: the arm is real and sometimes useful, yet its autonomous performance remains early-generation technology. Firmware improvements may expand or refine its behavior, but future improvements should not be counted as guaranteed value at the time of purchase.

How good is the Z70 as a vacuum and mop?

Judged without the arm, the Saros Z70 is a highly capable premium cleaner.

Navigation and access

The robot uses Roborock’s StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 and does not rely on a protruding LiDAR tower. Roborock lists its height at 7.98cm (3.14in), while RTINGS reports a measurement of about 8.04cm (3.17in). That low profile helps it reach beneath furniture that taller robots cannot.

Its AdaptiLift chassis is designed to climb thresholds up to approximately 4cm (1.57in), although the actual result depends on the threshold’s shape, surface and approach. Reviewers generally found navigation strong, with good obstacle avoidance and reliable map-based movement.

Vacuuming

Hard-floor cleaning is a clear strength. The Z70 also has edge-cleaning hardware and a 22,000Pa suction specification from Roborock. That figure should be treated as a manufacturer-rated specification, not as a direct measure of debris pickup. Independent testing produced a more mixed picture on carpets: Vacuum Wars reported 83% pet-hair pickup in one test and below-average deep-carpet performance, while RTINGS also identified weaknesses relative to some alternatives.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hair can remain a maintenance issue. Tech Advisor experienced rapid hair matting, and RTINGS reported more hair tangling than with the Saros 10R’s split-brush arrangement. Anti-tangle features reduce the problem; they do not eliminate the need to inspect and clean the brushroll.

Combined with 212°F hot water washing, 131°F hot air drying, self-cleaning maintenance, and up to 65 days of auto dust emptying, it delivers a truly hands-free experience.

Mopping

The Z70 uses spinning mop pads and can wash and dry them through its multifunction dock. Reviews generally found mopping effective, particularly on hard floors. The robot’s low clearance, edge coverage and threshold capability can be more meaningful in daily use than the headline suction number.

Dock and everyday ownership

The dock handles much of the routine work: self-emptying, mop washing, mop drying, water management, detergent dispensing and dock-cleaning functions. This is important because the robot has a smaller onboard dustbin than the Saros 10R. Auto-emptying is not merely a convenience; it helps compensate for the Z70’s reduced internal capacity.

The arm also adds more parts to keep clear. The transparent hatch and moving mechanism need room to deploy, and the dock or surrounding furniture must not obstruct the robot’s approach to an object or drop-off container. A test unit reviewed by TechRadar also produced an irritating rattling sound, showing that hardware noise can vary between units.

Initial setup should include a mapping run, room labels and boundaries, a defined storage or drop-off area, and exclusion zones around cable-heavy spaces. Keep liquids, strings, fragile objects, sharp items and pet waste out of the robot’s path. Owners of shedding pets or long-haired households should inspect the brushroll frequently.

What compromises does the arm introduce?

The Z70 is not simply a Saros 10R with a free accessory. The arm occupies internal space and requires power, software and additional mechanical components. Reported trade-offs include:

  • A smaller onboard dustbin.
  • Shorter practical battery life and more frequent dock returns.
  • A different brushroll design.
  • More hair tangling than the Saros 10R in RTINGS’ comparison.
  • Potentially weaker carpet performance than some non-arm alternatives.
  • More mechanical complexity, including the arm hatch and gripper.

WIRED found the Z70’s practical runtime substantially shorter than the Saros 10R’s. Larger homes may therefore require an additional recharge cycle, especially when vacuuming and mopping together.

Saros Z70 versus Saros 10R

Priority Better choice
Experimenting with a robotic arm Saros Z70
Cleaning value Saros 10R
Longer uninterrupted cleaning runs Saros 10R
Manual object pickup Saros Z70
Less mechanical complexity Saros 10R
Carpet or pet-hair specialization Compare dedicated alternatives

The Saros 10R is the more rational choice when the priority is premium vacuuming and mopping rather than object manipulation. RTINGS describes the Z70 as a closely related platform modified to accommodate the arm, with compromises in capacity, brushroll behavior, battery life and carpet operation. Android Authority likewise treated the arm as the principal justification for the substantial price increase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Other alternatives may fit particular homes better. RTINGS found the Dreame X50 Ultra a stronger overall option for many buyers, while the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra can be more suitable for carpet and pet hair. The Qrevo Curv is relevant for shoppers who want rotating-pad mopping without paying for the Z70’s arm, although it offers less advanced obstacle avoidance and low-clearance capability.

Is it suitable for pets, children and clutter?

Pets

The Z70 can be useful for everyday hard-floor debris and routine mopping, and its obstacle avoidance may help around ordinary household items. Do not rely on it to handle pet waste, strings, liquids or dangerous objects. Pet hair can still wrap around the roller, and independent results were mixed for carpet and embedded fur.

Children

The arm may move a sock, tissue or lightweight toy, but it cannot safely manage an entire play area. Small toys may go unrecognized or be unsuitable for the gripper. A quick floor check remains necessary before cleaning.

Cluttered homes

The Z70 is potentially more useful than a conventional robot in a cluttered home, but clutter is also where its limits become most obvious. It may avoid or flag objects rather than remove them, and the user may still need to intervene.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mobility limitations

Manual remote control is the most persuasive practical use case. Someone who cannot easily bend down to move a sock or sandal may gain meaningful convenience from directing the arm remotely. That is potential accessibility value, not a guarantee that the system will handle every object or household layout.

Who should buy the Saros Z70?

Buy it when the arm itself is worth paying for. It makes sense for early adopters, robotics enthusiasts, hard-floor households and users who have a specific, recurring need for occasional remote object-moving. You must be comfortable with first-generation behavior and understand that “can pick up” does not mean “will reliably tidy.”

Skip it when you simply want the best cleaning value. The Z70 is a poor fit for buyers who do not care about the arm, have carpet-heavy homes, need the strongest pet-hair performance, dislike frequent brush maintenance or expect autonomous decluttering to replace ordinary tidying.

The official US Roborock page retrieved for this review displayed a sale price of $1,699.99 against a listed original price of $2,599.99, but prices, promotions and availability vary by country and date. The page also showed contradictory stock messages, so check the current listing before buying. Do not compare a temporary sale price with another product’s launch MSRP without labeling the difference.

Verdict

The Roborock Saros Z70’s arm is not a gimmick in the sense of being fake or purely decorative. It can grip and move selected lightweight objects, and manual control can make it genuinely useful. But autonomous pickup and sorting are too inconsistent to serve as a dependable substitute for clearing the floor yourself.

The rest of the Z70 is strong: navigation is excellent, the low-profile body reaches under furniture, the chassis can handle substantial thresholds, hard-floor cleaning is effective and the dock automates much of the vacuuming and mopping maintenance. The arm’s cost is paid not only at checkout but also through reduced capacity, shorter runtime and added mechanical complexity.

Buy the Saros Z70 for the arm, not because the arm makes it the best vacuum. For most households, the Saros 10R offers the more sensible balance of cleaning performance, endurance and value.
